MBA Colleges in Kolkata 2026: IIM Calcutta to Own-Process PGDMs
Kolkata stacks four very different MBA doors into one city: the country's first IIM at the merit ceiling, a university MBA at Rs 8.3 lakh, and two own-process PGDMs accepting up to five entrance exams. This guide maps every layer with official documents — and what no agent can legitimately sell you here.
Last updated 25 August 2026 · Latest change: Initial publication with four individually verified school profiles (IIM Calcutta, IISWBM, IMI Kolkata, Globsyn), every fee and placement figure opened on official sources today; Globsyn's fee is not published and is carried as an unverified fallback
The short answer
As of August 2026, Kolkata's MBA admissions run in three layers: IIM Calcutta's CAT-only national merit route with an 85-percentile open-category floor, IISWBM's University of Calcutta MBA at Rs 8.3 lakh via CAT plus GD/PI, and own-process PGDMs at IMI Kolkata and Globsyn accepting up to five exams. Nobody can legitimately sell a seat.
Details below are indicative and compiled from public sources. Always confirm the latest fees, eligibility, seats and deadlines with each college and the official authorities before applying.

The routes, explained
The national merit ceiling — IIM Calcutta
IIM Calcutta's two-year MBA admits only through CAT: Stage I minimums (open category 80/80/75 section-wise, 85 overall), a composite shortlist, then WAT and a Personal Interview that carries 48 of 100 final points. The latest published two-year fee is Rs 27,00,000 (2024-26 batch). There is no quota of any kind — the published policy is the only door.
The university layer — IISWBM (University of Calcutta)
IISWBM's MBA (Day) admits CAT-qualified candidates through its own group discussion and personal interview across 120 seats, with a published cut-off table (55 percentile general, 41.25 reserved). The official two-year fee is Rs 8,30,000, and the 2023-24 annual report honestly records 87% of eligible students placed at a Rs 8 lakh median.
The own-process PGDM layer — IMI Kolkata and Globsyn
IMI Kolkata (NBA-accredited, AIU MBA-equivalent) admits on CAT, XAT, GMAT or CMAT plus interview at a published Rs 14,98,000 fee, and Globsyn accepts any of CAT, MAT, XAT, CMAT or ATMA followed by its own aptitude test and interview. Neither publishes a management quota; Globsyn does not publish its fee online, so we do not quote one.

Kolkata’s MBA map is a study in layers — and the distance between its top and middle is shorter on price than almost any Indian metro. At the ceiling sits the country’s first IIM, running the most explicitly published selection machine in the system. In the middle, a university department charging Rs 8.3 lakh for the same two years. At the wide end, two own-process PGDMs whose combined exam menu covers CAT, XAT, GMAT, CMAT, MAT and ATMA. Four profiled institutes, four verified fee documents, zero sellable seats.
Which Kolkata layer fits your profile?
If your CAT percentile clears the national bar, IIM Calcutta is the city’s defining option — Stage I minimums of 85 overall for the open category, a composite shortlist, and a final round where the Personal Interview is worth 48 of 100 points (CAT itself: 30). The latest published fee is Rs 27,00,000 for two years; the 2023 placement report the institute links shows a Rs 33.67 lakh median. Its quota answer is the shortest on this page: the published policy is the only door.
If you want a university MBA at a public fee, IISWBM is the standout. CAT plus the institute’s own GD and PI, 120 seats, a published 55-percentile general cut-off, and an official Rs 8,30,000 two-year fee. Its Annual Report 2023-24 records 87% of eligible students placed at a Rs 8 lakh median — honest arithmetic that gives a one-year fee-to-median payback.
If you need more exam options or a private process, IMI Kolkata takes CAT, XAT, GMAT or CMAT into an NBA-accredited, AIU MBA-equivalent PGDM at a published Rs 14,98,000 — and publishes its placements student-by-student, signed by the Director. Globsyn casts the widest net (CAT, MAT, XAT, CMAT or ATMA), adds its own 60-minute aptitude test and interview on a 100-mark composite, and published an average CTC of Rs 6.85 lakh for Placement 2025 — though not its fee, which we therefore do not quote.
What about the state routes?
West Bengal’s own machinery — JEMAT, the allotment-card counselling, and the vacant-seat rank-card rule of 20 September 2022 that lets colleges fill post-counselling vacancies directly — serves the state-college layer, not the institutes above. That full map, including the AICTE refund-enforcement circular of 4 August 2025, lives on our West Bengal management-quota page. The short version: in Kolkata, every legitimate seat comes with a published process and a published fee. Anything offered without both is not a seat — it is a script.
How Udaan helps with MBA admission in Kolkata
We place your profile against the city’s real bars — not the bars an agent invents — and sequence your applications across the layers: IIM Calcutta if the percentile is there, IISWBM for public-fee value, IMI-K and Globsyn for exam-menu flexibility, and the state routes where they genuinely apply. Every figure on this page was opened on an official document today; where an institute publishes no figure, we say so and help you get it in writing. Talk to the counsellor before you pay anyone anything.
All details in this guide — exam requirements, eligibility, selection stages, fees and deadlines — must be confirmed with the official institutions before relying on them, as they change from cycle to cycle. Figures we could not verify on official pages have been marked unverified rather than filled in from aggregators.

MBA admission in Kolkata, answered
- Which entrance exams do I need for an MBA in Kolkata?
- CAT covers three of the four profiled institutes — IIM Calcutta (only CAT), IISWBM MBA (Day) (CAT then GD/PI) and IMI Kolkata (CAT among four options). Globsyn accepts CAT, MAT, XAT, CMAT or ATMA. Taking CAT plus MAT or CMAT keeps every Kolkata door on this page open.
- What is the cheapest credible MBA in Kolkata?
- Among the profiled options, IISWBM's University of Calcutta-affiliated MBA (Day) at Rs 8,30,000 for two years (official break-up, FY 2024) — against Rs 14.98 lakh at IMI Kolkata and Rs 27 lakh at IIM Calcutta. Its 2023-24 annual report records 87% of eligible students placed at a Rs 8 lakh median, which makes it the city's standout fee-to-outcome value.
- Is there a management quota in Kolkata's top MBA colleges?
- Not at the four institutes profiled here. IIM Calcutta's admission policy publishes a single CAT-led route; IISWBM's mandatory disclosure lists only 'CAT qualified followed by GD & PI' for the MBA (Day); IMI Kolkata and Globsyn publish exam-plus-interview processes. West Bengal's vacant-seat rank-card rule applies to state-counselling colleges after the JEMAT window, not to these institutes.
- What CAT percentile do I need for IIM Calcutta?
- The published Stage I minimums (2026-28 policy) for the open category are 80 in VARC, 80 in DILR, 75 in QA and 85 overall — but the policy itself warns actual shortlist cut-offs run much higher. At the final stage the Personal Interview carries 48 of 100 points against CAT's 30, so the interview decides more than the score.
- What are realistic Kolkata options with a moderate entrance score?
- Three honest ones. IISWBM's published cut-off table starts at 55 percentile (general) for the MBA (Day). IMI Kolkata selects on CAT, XAT, GMAT or CMAT plus interview with a 50% graduation bar. Globsyn builds a 100-mark composite on any of five exams plus its own test and interview, selecting at 50 marks. All three are mapped with official sources in this guide.
- Does Globsyn publish its fee?
- No — as of 25 August 2026 the institute does not publish its PGDM fee online, so this guide carries it as an unverified item and tells you to get the figure in writing from the GBS admissions office. We would rather show a gap than fill it with an aggregator's number.
