The short answer
As of August 2026, IMI Kolkata's two-year PGDM (NBA-accredited, AIU MBA-equivalent) admits on CAT 2025, XAT 2026, GMAT or CMAT 2026 scores followed by a personal interview; the published 2026-28 self-sponsored fee is Rs 14,98,000 including a Rs 15,000 refundable deposit, and the application costs Rs 2,250.
Selection process
- Apply online on IMI's admission portal with a non-refundable application fee of Rs 2,250; candidates who have already applied to IMI New Delhi can add IMI Kolkata (and IMI Bhubaneswar) at no extra cost.
- Hold a valid score in at least one accepted exam: CAT 2025, XAT 2026, CMAT 2026, or GMAT (GMAT route for foreign-national candidates, test taken between January 2021 and January 2025 per the official page).
- Meet the academic bar: a bachelor's degree with at least 50% aggregate marks; final-year candidates must furnish proof by 30 September 2026. The institute notes the effective cut-off may rise with application volume.
- Shortlisted candidates attend a Personal Interview; company-sponsored candidates submit the sponsoring organisation's letter at this stage and are assessed by the same process.
- Final selection follows the Admission Bulletin 2026-28; sponsored and foreign-national candidates receive no placement assistance from the institute's placement cell.

Is there a management quota here?
No management or institute-level quota is published anywhere on IMI Kolkata's official pages. Admission runs only through the published route — an accepted entrance score and a Personal Interview under the Admission Bulletin. The one separate category is company-sponsored candidates, whose employer pays the fees and who go through the same selection process (and receive no placement assistance). Anyone offering an IMI Kolkata seat outside the portal is not describing a real route.
International Management Institute Kolkata is the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group’s management campus in Alipore — the Kolkata sibling of IMI New Delhi, and the city’s strongest private PGDM option that still runs a clean, published admission process. The two-year PGDM is AICTE-approved, NBA-accredited and AIU-certified as MBA-equivalent, and everything about admission lives on one official page: the exams accepted, the 50% bar, the Rs 2,250 application and the full fee table.
What does the admission route look like?
Four accepted exams — CAT, XAT, GMAT or CMAT — one online application, and a Personal Interview. The 2026-28 cycle runs on CAT 2025, XAT 2026 and CMAT 2026 scores, with the GMAT route reserved for foreign-national candidates. The academic bar is 50% in graduation, with final-year candidates given until 30 September 2026 to prove eligibility; the institute itself cautions that the effective cut-off can rise with application volume. Two categories sit beside the general pool without bypassing anything: company-sponsored candidates, whose employers pay fees and who interview like everyone else, and foreign nationals. Neither gets placement assistance.
The money, in official numbers
Rs 14,98,000 total for the 2026-28 self-sponsored category — tuition Rs 12,08,000 across six trimesters, plus learning materials, library, IT, activities and alumni membership, with a Rs 15,000 refundable security deposit inside the total. That is the figure on the admissions page’s own Fee Structure tab, not an aggregator’s estimate.
On outcomes, IMI Kolkata does something rare: it publishes a student-by-student placement list for 2023-24, signed by the Director, naming every placed student, the employer and the appointment number — Deloitte, PwC Acceleration Centers, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Dabur, Godrej & Boyce, Infosys, Wipro and more. What it does not publish is a headline average CTC, so we do not invent one; our placement-report reading guide explains why a signed offer list is actually stronger evidence than an unsourced average.
Where does IMI Kolkata fit in the city?
Above the own-process private layer on brand and accreditation, below IIM Calcutta on selectivity — and with a meaningfully different ask: IIMC wants a top CAT percentile and a killer interview; IMI-K gives you four exam options and a 50% graduation bar. Families comparing it with the Delhi PGDM cluster should read our IMT vs IMI vs FORE vs BIMTECH comparison — the Kolkata campus shares the IMI selection machinery. How Udaan helps with IMI Kolkata
We tell you whether your entrance score is genuinely competitive for IMI-K this cycle — before you spend the application fee — and which of the four accepted exams gives your profile the best shot. Applications stay on IMI’s own portal; if an agent offers you an IMI Kolkata seat directly, the institute’s published process is the proof that no such seat exists.

Questions, answered
- Which exams does IMI Kolkata accept for the PGDM?
- CAT, XAT, GMAT and CMAT, per the official admissions page (CAT 2025, XAT 2026 and CMAT 2026 for the current cycle; the GMAT route applies to foreign-national candidates with a test taken between January 2021 and January 2025). One valid score is enough to apply.
- What is the IMI Kolkata PGDM fee?
- Rs 14,98,000 in total for the 2026-28 self-sponsored category, across six trimesters, per the Fee Structure tab on the official admissions page (accessed 25 August 2026). That figure includes a Rs 15,000 refundable security deposit and Rs 20,000 alumni life membership; tuition proper is Rs 12,08,000.
- Is there a management quota at IMI Kolkata?
- No quota of any kind is published on the institute's official pages. The only door is the published one — application on the IMI portal (Rs 2,250), an accepted entrance score and a Personal Interview. Company-sponsored seats exist but go through the same selection process, with the employer paying fees and no placement assistance attached.
- Does IMI Kolkata publish its placement record?
- Yes — unusually transparently. The institute publishes a student-by-student, Director-signed list of on-campus offers for placement year 2023-24, naming each student, employer and appointment number; recruiters include Deloitte, PwC Acceleration Centers, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Dabur, Godrej & Boyce, Infosys and Wipro. What it does not publish is a summarised average or median CTC in an official report, so we do not quote one.
- Is the IMI Kolkata PGDM equivalent to an MBA?
- The two-year PGDM is AICTE-approved, NBA-accredited and carries AIU equivalence to an MBA for 2022-2027, per the certificates linked on the official site. For Indian government jobs and further study that require an 'MBA', the AIU equivalence letter is the document that matters.
- Can I apply to IMI Kolkata and IMI Delhi together?
- Yes — and cheaply. If you have already applied to IMI New Delhi, you can add IMI Kolkata (and IMI Bhubaneswar) with no extra application fee, per the official admissions page. Each campus shortlists on its own cut-offs.
