Grant Government Medical College and Sir J. J. Group of Hospitals
Established in 1845, this is one of the oldest medical colleges in South Asia and the only Mumbai-city government MBBS college run by the Government of Maharashtra rather than the BMC. Its clinical affiliate is the Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals (Sir J.J., St George, Gokuldas Tejpal, and Cama & Albless). MBBS intake is 250 per year.

Admission to MBBS programmes in Mumbai is based on the national NEET-UG examination. For government, municipal and MUHS-affiliated private colleges, the 85% state quota is filled by the State Common Entrance Test Cell (CET Cell), Maharashtra, with the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER). The 15% All-India Quota in government colleges, and all seats in deemed universities, are handled by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) of the Government of India. Most of the city’s colleges are affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik.
Mumbai is unusual in that four of its five city government colleges, Seth GS / KEM, TNMC / Nair, LTMMC / Sion and HBT / Cooper, are run by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) rather than the state; only Grant Government Medical College & JJ Hospital is run by the Government of Maharashtra. For admissions, the BMC colleges are still treated as government colleges within the state-quota and All-India-Quota systems.
