MBA Management Quota Fees in 2026: Real Numbers, College by College

There is no single “management quota fee” for an MBA in 2026, and most of the figures ranking on Google are fiction. Where quota seats legally exist, the price is a published fee: identical to the merit fee in Delhi and Maharashtra by law, or a second published fee level in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Everything above a published figure is capitation, a crime, not a price.

This page puts numbers we verified on official fee pages this week against the figures circulating on agent sites and portals. For how the quota system itself works, start with our full guide to MBA admission through management quota.

The circulating numbers vs the verified ones

CollegeCirculating “quota fee”Verified position (July 2026)Official source
SIBM PuneRs 21 to 24 lakh “package”No quota. SNAP only. One published fee: academic Rs 6,55,000 per installment, four installments (Rs 26.2 lakh academic, batch 2026-28)sibm.edu fee PDF, 2026-28
NMIMS MumbaiRs 11 to 27 lakh “plus donation”No management quota for any program; official notice calls such offers fraudulent. Fee declared at admission via the Admissions Handoutnmims.edu/result and fee-structure page
Christ University, BengaluruRs 7 to 17 lakh, depending on which agent site you readPublished MBA fee: Rs 5,70,000 per year (Karnataka), Rs 5,80,000 per year (other Indian states), 2026 batch. “The University does not collect any type of Capitation / Donation other than the fee mentioned in the website”christuniversity.in course page and admission page
Great Lakes, ChennaiListed as a “management quota college”AICTE-approved PGDM: exam qualifiers only. Published fee: Rs 16,03,000 academic, Rs 22.5 lakh total with twin-AC accommodation, batch 2026-28greatlakes.edu.in fee page
SPJIMR, XLRI, MDI, IMTRs 17 to 24 lakh “MQ fees” in portal tablesNo quota exists. AICTE PGDM institutes must fill 100% of seats from entrance-exam qualifiers, strictly on meritAICTE Approval Process Handbook, Appendix-9
ISB HyderabadRs 27 to 30 lakh “MQ fee”A valid GMAT or GRE score is a prerequisite for PGP admission. There is no exam-free routeisb.edu eligibility page
Alliance University, BengaluruVarious “direct admission packages”Fees published programme-wise as official PDFs on the university’s fee-structure page; admission through its own AMAT processalliance.edu.in fee page

Read that table twice. Of the seven names agents quote most, not one sells a quota seat, and the widely copied portal table putting “management quota fees” of Rs 24 lakh against SPJIMR or Rs 30 lakh against ISB describes seats that legally do not exist.

Where a quota fee legally exists, state by state

Management quota is real, but only where state law creates it, and the fee is regulated everywhere it is real.

StateQuota shareWho sets the feePremium over the merit fee
MaharashtraUp to 20% institute-level seats, plus up to 5% NRIFees Regulating Authority (FRA)Zero. Institute-level admittees pay the same FRA-approved fee; CET Cell brochures state even reserved-category candidates on these seats pay the open-category fee
Delhi10% management seats in GGSIPU-affiliated unaided colleges (Section 12, Act 80 of 2007)College fee as approved for the programmeZero, by court order. The Delhi High Court barred charging quota students more than the other 90% (VIPS-TC, May 2023)
KarnatakaVaries college by college under the annual Government-association arrangementGovernment-quota fees via KEA; management-seat fees must be published before you applyA higher published fee can exist for management seats. Published, not negotiated
Tamil NaduManagement seats in self-financing colleges, filled through the Consortium’s own CETState fee fixation plus college publicationA higher published fee can exist; the Consortium route is the legitimate door

So the honest “quota premium vs merit fee” split looks like this: in the two states with the most MBA seats agents talk about, the premium is zero by law. In the two southern states, the premium is whatever the published management-seat fee says, in writing, before you apply. In no state is the premium a number an agent computes on WhatsApp.

What the colleges themselves say

No ranking page on this keyword quotes a single official disclaimer. Here they are.

  • NMIMS: “There is NO ‘Management Quota’ at NMIMS for any Program. If you receive any E-Mail / SMS related to it, consider it as Fraudulent.” That is the university’s own notice, live in July 2026. The full NMIMS story.
  • Symbiosis: the SNAP site states the university “does not charge capitation fee for admission” and that aspirants approaching “through or at the instances of such agents will be permanently debarred from admission to all the courses and programmes”.
  • Christ University: “The University does not collect any type of Capitation / Donation other than the fee mentioned in the website.” The published MBA fee is Rs 5.7 to 5.8 lakh per year for Indian students.
  • MAHE (Manipal): publishes an advisory that it has not authorised any agents, middlemen or admission consultants.

What agents won’t tell you

The “quota fee” they quote for NMIMS or Symbiosis is the price of a seat that does not exist. Business Standard documented a racket quoting Rs 15 lakh for a fake NMIMS quota seat; the university itself unearthed the fraud. Symbiosis permanently debars aspirants who come through agents, so the payment can cost you the seat you might have won on merit. And in Delhi and Maharashtra, the law already says a genuine quota seat costs the same as a merit seat, which means the entire “premium” you are being asked for goes to the middleman, not the college.

What is fixed, and what is genuinely negotiable

Fixed: the published tuition and academic fee. SIBM Pune’s fee PDF fixes not just the amounts but the payment dates (second installment due 25 November 2026). Maharashtra’s FRA fee, Delhi’s court-mandated parity and Christ’s published schedule leave nothing to discuss.

Legitimately variable: your accommodation choice and published scholarships. At SIBM Pune, hostel (Rs 1,57,300, three sharing) and mess (Rs 59,800) sit on top of the academic fee, and Great Lakes’ Rs 22.5 lakh total includes Rs 6,32,000 of twin-AC accommodation. Skipping or downgrading hostel is the honest way to reduce the bill.

Never negotiable, because it is never legal: anything above the published fee. The Supreme Court barred capitation “directly or indirectly, or in any form” (P.A. Inamdar, 2005), and the state acts add prison terms. The negotiation an agent offers is a crime being priced, and the payer is exposed too. The full legal analysis is in our guide to whether management quota is legal.

Paying it: installments, loans, refunds

Legitimate fee structures are paid semester-wise or in published installments, to the college’s account, against receipts. Education loans follow the same paper: SBI’s Student Loan Scheme covers “fees payable to college/school/hostel”, plus books, equipment and caution deposits capped at 10% of tuition, against proof of admission and the college’s schedule of expenses. No bank lends against a cash package, because there is nothing official to lend against. Before paying, also get the college’s published refund schedule in writing.

Timing, and one correction

Agent sites push “book by April to June” urgency. The real calendar is the opposite of uniform: Christ’s MBA selection process for 2026 closed on 6 May 2026, while Maharashtra’s institute-level rounds run only after the CAP rounds, on dates the CET Cell’s current-year brochure sets (expected in the second half of 2026). Deadlines belong to each college and regulator, not to an agent’s urgency script. City-level specifics are in our Bangalore MBA guide, and Maharashtra’s post-CAP process is in the institute-level quota guide.

How to verify any fee figure yourself

  1. Find the fee on the college’s own website, as a page or PDF naming your batch. Every genuine figure in this article lives on one.
  2. In Maharashtra, cross-check against the FRA-approved fee; in Delhi, remember quota and merit fees must match; in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, ask for the published management-seat fee before you apply.
  3. Confirm the institute on the AICTE portal (for PGDM) or as a recognised university, and pay only the institution’s account, against a receipt.
  4. If the number you were quoted appears nowhere official, you have your answer.

We verify fees against official pages before we advise anyone, and we will tell you when a route does not exist. Message us on WhatsApp with the college you have been quoted a “quota fee” for, and we will show you the published figure and the genuine route in.

Questions, answered

How much does an MBA management quota seat cost in 2026?
There is no single figure. Where quota seats legally exist, the price is the published fee: the FRA-approved fee in Maharashtra, the same fee as merit students in Delhi (by High Court order), and a college-wise published fee in Karnataka. For scale, verified 2026 fees at colleges agents often name: Christ University MBA is Rs 5.7 to 5.8 lakh per year, SIBM Pune's academic fee is Rs 13.1 lakh per year, and Great Lakes Chennai's PGDM academic fee is Rs 16.03 lakh total. Anything demanded above a published figure is capitation, which is illegal.
Is the management quota fee higher than the regular fee?
Often not, by law. In Delhi, the High Court barred GGSIPU-affiliated colleges from charging management quota students more than regular students (VIPS-TC v. Govt of NCT, May 2023). In Maharashtra, institute-level admittees pay the same FRA-approved fee as everyone else. In Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, management seats can carry a higher published fee than government-quota seats, but it is a published figure, not a negotiation.
What are the management quota fees at NMIMS or Symbiosis?
They do not exist. NMIMS publishes an official notice stating there is NO management quota at NMIMS for any program and that offers claiming one are fraudulent. Symbiosis states on the SNAP website that it charges no capitation fee and that aspirants who approach through agents are permanently debarred from all its programmes. Both publish one fee per programme, paid by every admitted student.
Are management quota fees negotiable?
No. The published fee is fixed by the college or the state regulator. The only legitimate ways your total cost changes are published scholarships and your hostel choice. Anyone offering to negotiate the fee itself is negotiating capitation, which is a criminal offence under state acts, including 3 to 7 years of imprisonment under Karnataka's 1984 Act.
Can I get an education loan for a management quota MBA seat?
Yes, for the published fee. SBI's Student Loan Scheme covers fees payable to college and hostel, plus books, equipment and caution deposits (capped at 10% of tuition), against proof of admission and the college's schedule of expenses. No bank finances a cash package paid to an agent, because there is no receipt to lend against.
Is paying a donation for MBA admission legal?
No. The Supreme Court struck down capitation in Mohini Jain (1992) and barred it directly or indirectly, or in any form in P.A. Inamdar (2005). State acts criminalise it: Karnataka's 1984 Act carries 3 to 7 years of imprisonment, and Maharashtra (1987) and Tamil Nadu (1992) have their own prohibition acts. A donation linked to admission is capitation whatever it is called.
Which MBA colleges have no management quota at all?
IIMs and government institutes. Every AICTE-approved PGDM institute, including SPJIMR, XLRI, MDI, IMT Ghaziabad, Great Lakes and Welingkar, because AICTE's Appendix-9 requires 100% of seats to be filled from entrance-exam qualifiers strictly on merit. Deemed and own-process universities such as NMIMS, Symbiosis, Christ (for Indian students), Jain and Alliance fill every seat through their own published admissions. ISB requires a GMAT or GRE score as a prerequisite for its PGP.
Does a management quota admission show on the degree certificate?
No. The degree records the university, the programme and the class awarded, not the admission route. A legally admitted institute-level or management-seat student receives the same degree as a CAP or merit admittee of the same programme.
