MBA Management Quota in Pune (2026): Institute-Level Seats, Real Fees, CAP vs Direct

No MBA seat in Pune is legally sold over WhatsApp. What Maharashtra law actually creates is an institute-level quota: unaided colleges inside the state’s MAH-CET CAP system may fill up to 20% of sanctioned intake themselves, by advertised merit rounds, at the FRA-approved fee. Almost every college agents name for “management quota in Pune” sits outside that system entirely.

The pattern is worth stating plainly. The colleges with the biggest brand names have no quota, and the quota that exists belongs to colleges agents rarely name, because there is no premium to earn on a regulated seat.

The official 20% rule, in brief

Maharashtra’s framework is the Maharashtra Unaided Private Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admissions and Fees) Act, 2015, administered through the State CET Cell and the Admissions Regulating Authority. For MBA/MMS, the CET Cell’s rules let each unaided college fill up to 20% of its sanctioned intake as institute-level seats, plus whatever remains vacant after the CAP rounds. Four conditions attach: the college must advertise the schedule and seat count on its own website, select by merit among eligible applicants, admit only candidates registered on the state CET portal, and charge only the fee approved by the Fees Regulating Authority. There is no category reservation on these seats, and reserved-category candidates who take them pay the open-category fee.

Note the number. Agent pages ranking for Pune quote “15% AICTE quota”. The Maharashtra figure is 20%, and it comes from state rules, not AICTE. Whether that quota is worth chasing for your profile is a separate question, covered with all-India context in our guide to MBA management quota fees.

Which Pune B-schools are actually inside the system

The test is simple: a college has institute-level seats only if it appears in the CAP seat matrix the CET Cell publishes with the final merit list. Pune’s unaided MBA/MMS colleges affiliated to SPPU fill this list; deemed and private universities never do.

Definitely outside for 2026, on the record: Symbiosis and SIBM Pune (deemed university, SNAP only), MIT-WPU (private university, own selection on eight accepted exams), Sri Balaji University with its BIMM, BITM, BIIB and BIMHRD schools (private university under the Sri Balaji University, Pune Act, 2019), Indira University (private university since the IIMP migration), and PUMBA (SPPU’s own department). PGDM programmes anywhere, including Indira’s, are also quota-free by AICTE rule: Appendix-9 of the Approval Process Handbook requires 100% of PGDM seats to go to entrance-exam qualifiers on merit.

So when the 2026-27 seat matrix appears on mahacet.org (final merit list scheduled for 20 July 2026), that document, not an agent’s list, tells you which Pune colleges hold institute-level seats and how many. Real fees, verified on official pages this week

• MIT-WPU: Rs 5,00,000 per year for most MBA specialisations, Rs 6,75,000 per year for the Dual and the Entrepreneurship and Family Business variants, 2026-27 list on the official admissions page. Application fee Rs 2,000. Accepted scores: CAT, XAT, NMAT, GMAT, CMAT, MAH-CET 2026, PERA 2026, or MAT (September 2025 onwards), followed by the university’s own rounds.
• Indira (IIMP) PGDM: Rs 4,25,000 per year (tuition Rs 3,75,000 plus development fee Rs 50,000), batch 2025-27, on the institute’s own fee page. That is Rs 8.5 lakh for two years, below the Rs 10 to 12 lakh “quota fee” agents quote, for seats that carry no quota at all. Indira University’s MBA fee is not published on its programme page; ask the university directly.
• SIBM Pune: academic fee Rs 26.2 lakh for the 2026-28 batch, four installments of Rs 6,55,000, hostel and mess extra, per the official fee PDF. Every admitted student pays it; there is no cheaper or costlier side door.
• Sri Balaji University (BIMM): the university’s site, including its fee page, was unreachable when we checked on 8 July 2026, so we quote no figure. Verify on sbup.edu.in/Admission/fee_structure. Do not rely on the Rs 8.45 lakh agent pages, which still carry COVID-era placement lines.
• Unaided CAP colleges: the FRA-approved fee published for each college, identical for CAP and institute-level admittees.

What agents won’t tell you

In Pune, the “quota price” is one of three things. At MIT-WPU it is roughly the ordinary published fee, Rs 10 to 13.5 lakh over two years, dressed up as a premium you supposedly need help to pay. At SIBM and PUMBA it is the price of a seat that does not exist, and Symbiosis permanently debars aspirants who come through agents. And at the CAP colleges where institute-level seats are real, the law fixes the fee at the FRA figure, so every rupee above it is the agent’s margin, not the college’s fee. Charging it is capitation, punishable with one to three years’ imprisonment under Maharashtra’s 1987 Act.

The 2026 calendar: CAP first, institute-level after

The CET Cell published its MBA/MMS CAP 2026-27 notice on 2 July 2026. The schedule below is from that notice as reported on 8 July 2026; cross-check the current PDF on cetcell.mahacet.org before acting.

Two practical points. Registration on the CET portal is the entry ticket for institute-level seats too, so complete it in the current window even if your score worries you. And the institute-level rounds run on compressed, college-specific schedules, sometimes days long, so track the websites of the colleges on your list, not just the portal.

How to take an institute-level seat in Pune, honestly

Register on the CET portal, wait for the final merit list and seat matrix, and after the CAP rounds apply directly to colleges whose websites advertise institute-level or vacancy rounds. Selection is by merit among applicants, the fee is the FRA figure, and payment goes to the college against a receipt.
