Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad

IIM Ahmedabad is the ceiling of Indian MBA admissions and the name most often used to sell fake seats. This profile does the opposite of what the agent brochures do: it sticks to what the institute publishes, flags exactly what it no longer publishes, and prices the dream honestly. As of 14 September 2026, what the institute publishes has grown: the full 2027-29 admission policy is live.

How does the selection machine actually run?

The freshly posted Admission Policy for PGP 2027-29 (Domestic) — an eight-page official PDF read in full today — prints the machine to three decimal places. Eligibility first: a bachelor’s degree of at least three years with 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% for SC/ST/PwD); final-year candidates join provisionally against a 30 June 2027 completion deadline, with mark sheets by 31 December 2027.

Then the printed cut-off table: General/EWS candidates need 95 overall percentile with 85 in every CAT section (PVARC, PDILR, PQA); NC-OBC 90/80; SC 85/75; ST 75/65; PwD columns one band lower. Clearing the table only opens the pool — the shortlist for the Analytical Writing Test and Personal Interview ranks on a raw composite of 65% CAT total percentile and 35% a normalised application rating built from 10th, 12th and graduation percentages, work experience (0.20 multiplication factor, capped at five points from 36 months) and three gender-diversity points for non-male candidates, normalised within the candidate’s undergraduate discipline. The final list runs category-wise on a Final Composite Score of 50% personal interview, 10% AWT and 40% that composite. The calendar is printed too: AWT-PI shortlists in the second week of January 2027, offers in the second week of April 2027, acceptance formalities by the first week of May 2027 — and the policy reserves the Admissions Committee’s right to change the cut-offs year to year.

What the site still does not contain is a PGP fee page — so every specific “IIMA fee” number you read on an aggregator remains an estimate or an invention. We mark the fee unverified rather than quote a number the institute does not stand behind.

What does it cost, and what does it return?

On cost, the honest position as of 28 August 2026: the two-year PGP fee is communicated with the offer letter, not published on the site. For calibration, IIMA’s own one-year MBA-PGPX publishes INR 35 lakhs for 2026-27, and the peer two-year IIMs publish Rs 25-27 lakh. Budget in that band and confirm in writing before paying.

On return, IIMA is one of the few Indian schools whose placement claims are externally audited. The final placement report 2025, audited under the Indian Placement Reporting Standards and hosted on the institute’s own portal, records: mean maximum earning potential Rs 35,22,591, median Rs 34,53,000, highest domestic package Rs 1.10 crore, across 395 accepted offers from a pool of 406 eligible students. When every other website quotes rounder numbers with no source, this is the document to ask for.

Where does IIMA fit in an Ahmedabad shortlist?

As the merit ceiling — the row every other option in the city is measured against, and the one no counsellor can move. Below it, the city stacks three genuinely different layers: MICA for marketing and communication careers through its own MICAT, IRMA — now Tribhuvan Sahkari University in Anand for development management at a fraction of the fee, and the BK School grant-in-aid MBA at Rs 6,500 a year via Gujarat’s ACPC counselling.
