What should an applicant plan for?
A two-stage machine with the arithmetic printed in advance. Stage one sets the CAT floor — General 90 overall with 80/75/80 sectionals, NC-OBC 80, SC 55, ST and PwD 40 — and then builds a pre-PI score where CAT carries only 50%: Class 10 and 12 take 10% each (normalised against each board’s 90th percentile, a fair shake for strict-board students), graduation 5%, gender diversity 10%, and work experience a hefty 15%.
Stage two is the interview room: PI 70%, with work experience, gender and academic diversity at 10% each. The final offer is 0.7 times the pre-PI score plus 0.3 times the post-PI score — which means a strong interview can move, but not fully overturn, a weak composite. Plan the profile, not just the percentile.
