Last updated 19 September 2026 · Reviewed by Piyush Agarwal · Latest change: Initial profile from the university's own pages opened today: the printed national-test exemption bars, the 30% national-test seat clause with its UPESMET fallback, the 50% eligibility bar, the Rs 1,350 application and the NBA/NIRF credentials. The tuition fee ships as a disclosed fallback — the official fee-structure page renders per-programme fees through an interactive selector that failed during verification, so no figure is printed.

The short answer

As of 19 September 2026, UPES Dehradun admits its MBA through UPESMET — its own online or centre-based test — or a national score, with up to 30% of seats filled from CAT, MAT, XAT and NMAT scores. Eligibility is 50% in Classes 10, 12 and graduation; the application fee is Rs 1,350. The university publishes the fee on its fee-structure page, which requires a program-level selection.

Selection process

  1. Apply online at upes.ac.in/mba-admission or offline at the admission office, paying Rs 1,350.
  2. Take UPESMET (online/centre-based) or qualify for exemption with a national score: MAT/CMAT 70 percentile and above, CAT 50 percentile and above, XAT 50 percentile and above, GMAT 400+, or NMAT 120+ — the printed exemption bars (the page carries an older exam-year example; treat the bars as the pattern and confirm the current year's dates on the page).
  3. Exempted candidates go straight to the Group Discussion and Personal Interview; UPESMET takers are shortlisted to GD-PI on their test performance.
  4. Up to 30% of seats shall be filled through the National Level Tests category (CAT/MAT/XAT/NMAT); if candidates for such seats are not available, UPES may fill them through UPESMET — a printed fallback that shapes the real competition.
  5. Selection is completed after GD-PI; five MBA programmes carry NBA accreditation for 2023-2026 and the school prints an NIRF Management rank of 36 in 2025.

Is there a management quota here?

UPES prints no management quota for its MBA. What it prints instead is a seat-category structure: up to 30% of seats filled through national-level tests (CAT/MAT/XAT/NMAT), the remainder through its own UPESMET, every seat passing through GD-PI on a 50% eligibility bar. A private university's own test plus a national-test lane is a lawful admission design — but it is also the pattern agents mis-sell as a paid door. The university's own page is the arbiter: if a seat offer does not trace back to UPESMET or a national-test category on the official portal, it is not a seat.

UPES Dehradun is a two-lane MBA door: its own UPESMET test fills most of the class, and up to 30% of seats print for national-test candidates — CAT or XAT at 50 percentile, MAT or CMAT at 70, GMAT at 400, NMAT at 120. For a low-CAT or no-CAT profile it is exactly the kind of lawful own-test-plus-national-score structure worth understanding, and every clause on this page comes from the university’s own site, opened today.

What should an applicant plan for?

Decide your lane early. With a CAT/XAT/MAT score above the printed bars you skip UPESMET entirely and go straight to the Group Discussion and Personal Interview; without one, you sit UPESMET online or at a centre. Either way the eligibility bar is 50% across Classes 10, 12 and graduation, the application costs Rs 1,350, and the specialisation choice matters more here than at a generalist school — the menu runs from Oil and Gas to Business Analytics with KPMG, and the EY tracks carry a higher 60% graduation bar.

Where does UPES sit in a shortlist?

In the established private-university tier — credentialed (five NBA-accredited MBA programmes, NIRF Management rank 36 in 2025) but not in the CAT-elite conversation. Its role in our without-entrance-exam map and percentile-band table is as the school where a modest national score or a serious own-test attempt still buys a specialised, industry-tagged MBA. Compare it honestly against Amity and Sharda in the same tier on fee-at-campus and specialisation fit, not on ranking claims.

How Udaan helps with UPES applicants

We match the specialisation to the career you actually want (an Oil and Gas MBA is a sector bet, not a general one), pick your better lane — national score versus UPESMET — on evidence, and prepare you for the GD-PI that decides both. And because the fee is not printed on a static page, we insist families see the official fee-structure page’s own number before any money moves.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Does UPES accept CAT for its MBA?
Yes — CAT 50 percentile and above exempts you from UPESMET and takes you straight to the Group Discussion and Personal Interview. XAT works on the same 50-percentile bar, MAT and CMAT at 70 percentile, GMAT at 400+ and NMAT at 120+. Up to 30% of seats are filled through this national-test category; the rest run through UPESMET, the university's own test.
What is the UPES MBA fee?
The official fee-structure page loads fees per programme through an interactive selector, and we do not print a figure we could not read from it — confirm the current MBA semester fee there before applying. The printed hostel figure on the admissions page is Rs 1,65,000 (triple sharing, dated 2022-23) plus a Rs 10,000 refundable security. Treat any aggregator fee number for UPES as unverified until you see it on the university's own page.
Is UPESMET easier than CAT?
Different, not easier in any printed way. UPESMET is UPES's own online or centre-based test feeding the same GD-PI stage. The strategic point is the printed 30% clause: candidates with national scores fill up to 30% of seats, and unfilled national-test seats fall back to UPESMET takers — so the two pools compete for a fixed mix, and a valid CAT/MAT score gives you the earlier lane.
Is there a management quota at UPES?
No management-quota share is printed anywhere in UPES's admission process. The printed structure is two lawful lanes — the national-test category (up to 30% of seats) and UPESMET for the rest — with GD-PI for everyone on a 50% eligibility bar. Anyone selling a UPES 'quota seat' is selling a lane the university fills by score.
What is the eligibility for the UPES MBA?
Minimum 50% in Class 10, Class 12 and graduation in any stream from a recognised university. The EY knowledge-partnership tracks (for example MBA Strategic Financial Management) print a higher 60% graduation bar — check your chosen specialisation's block before applying.
Which UPES MBA specialisations exist?
The printed menu spans general MBA plus Aviation Management, Oil and Gas Management, Power Management, Logistics and Supply Chain, International Business, Digital Business, Business Analytics (with KPMG), and several EY knowledge-partnership tracks including Investment Banking and Capital Markets, Financial Technology, AI for Business, and Strategy and Consulting with KPMG, among others on the fee page's programme list.
