MBA Without Entrance Exam in 2026: The Honest Answer and the Own-Test Doors
No recognised MBA admits with zero test — universities run their own: CUCET, Chitkara Test, iSET, MU-BAAT, Bocconi Test and more. Opened 12 September 2026.
The short answer
As of September 2026, no recognised Indian MBA admits students with no test at all — but many universities run their own entrance instead of national exams: Chandigarh University's CUCET, the Chitkara University Test, ITM's iSET, Masters' Union's free MU-BAAT, SDA Bocconi's Bocconi Test and IIHMR's Rs 500 IIHMRU-MAT, each re-opened on official pages today.
Here is the sentence most admission agents will never say to you: at any recognised Indian institution, there is no such thing as an MBA with no entrance test at all. There is always a merit instrument. The real question — and the genuinely useful version of this search — is who sets the test: a national authority’s calendar, or the university’s own exam cell. If your problem with the national exams is timing, cost or a score you do not want to wait a year to repair, the university-run doors below are the honest answer, each re-opened on its official page on 12 September 2026.
The own-test doors, verified today
| University | Its own test | National scores also accepted | Printed cost of the door | Programme fee in print |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chandigarh University | CUCET — registration open, doubles as the scholarship test (grids to a 100% waiver) | CAT, MAT and CMAT scholarships noted separately on the same page | CUCET registration per the official portal | MBA Business Analytics (with IBM) at Rs 1,89,500 per semester on the programme page |
| Chitkara University, Punjab | Chitkara University Test + GD-PI for candidates without a national score | CAT, MAT, NMAT, XAT, CMAT or other recognised exams | No separate test fee printed on the MBA page | Rs 2,25,000 per semester x 4 = Rs 9,00,000 (programme + ETS/CAS table) |
| ITM Business School, Kharghar | The university’s iSET | CAT, XAT, NMAT, CMAT, MAT, ATMA, CUET, State CET — the widest menu we have verified | Rs 1,500 application | Full fee schedule is download-gated; our ITM profile discloses this rather than guess |
| Masters’ Union, Gurugram | MU-BAAT — online, video-based, from home, 45-60 minutes, at no additional fee | CAT or GMAT waives it; eight other scores get a 48-hour committee review | Free; Rs 500 application | Total programme fee Rs 38,56,692 (reprinted this week; our profile tracks it) |
| SDA Bocconi Asia Center, Mumbai | The Bocconi Test — online for all cities, for candidates without a valid CAT/NMAT/GMAT/GRE | CAT, NMAT, GMAT, GRE | No separate test fee; the IMB application is Rs 3,500 | Rs 20,75,000 total (Rs 2,75,000 admission + Rs 18,00,000 tuition incl. Milan semester) |
| IIHMR University, Jaipur | IIHMRU-MAT — online remote, 2.5 hours, up to three attempts, free rescheduling | Eight national tests listed on the programme page | Rs 500 per attempt | Rs 2,70,000 x 5 terms = Rs 13,50,000 for MBA (Hospital and Health Management) |
Notice what none of these pages contains: a management-quota row, a donation line, or a “direct admission” price. Each is a test the university itself runs, with a printed process and a printed fee. That is the entire shape of the honest version of this route.
What “no test at all” actually means
When an advertisement or a caller promises MBA admission with no exam of any kind, one of three things is true. The institution is unrecognised and the credential will not survive an employer’s background check. The programme is a certificate being sold with MBA-shaped marketing. Or someone is offering to fabricate the merit step — which is capitation, illegal for the seller and dangerous for the payer. Our agent red-flags playbook documents the pattern with the institutes’ own printed warnings.
Own test or national exam: how to choose
Take the university’s own test when your target list is short and specific — one city, one budget band, one programme you have already read the placement record of. Take a national exam when you want optionality: one CAT, MAT or CMAT score keeps dozens of colleges in play, and our MBA without CAT and low-CAT options pages map how far each score actually travels. The expensive mistake is paying someone to skip the instrument entirely — no honest route skips it.
If you tell us your score (or the absence of one), your budget and your target cities, we will tell you plainly which of these doors is real for your profile this month — and when the honest answer is to sit for the next national window instead.

- Can I do an MBA in India with no entrance exam at all?
- Not at a recognised institution. Every legitimate route runs on some merit instrument — a national exam (CAT, MAT, CMAT and the rest), a state CET, or the university's own test. An offer of a recognised MBA seat with no test of any kind, at any fee, is the classic admission-scam shape; walk away and check the college's own website.
- Which universities run their own MBA entrance test?
- Verified on official pages on 12 September 2026: Chandigarh University (CUCET, doubling as its scholarship test), Chitkara University (the Chitkara University Test for candidates without a national score), ITM Business School Kharghar (its iSET beside eight accepted national routes), Masters' Union Gurugram (the free, from-home MU-BAAT), SDA Bocconi Asia Center (the Bocconi Test inside the IMB application) and IIHMR University Jaipur (the online IIHMRU-MAT at Rs 500 per attempt).
- Is a university's own test easier than CAT?
- It is a different instrument, not a loophole. These tests are shorter, cheaper and closer to an aptitude screen, and selection still rides on interviews, academic records and the university's own merit list. The honest gain is logistical: you can be assessed this month, from home, without waiting for a national exam window.
- What is the cheapest own-test MBA door you have verified?
- IIHMR University Jaipur's IIHMRU-MAT costs Rs 500 per attempt (up to three attempts, rescheduling free) for its MBA in Hospital and Health Management, whose five-term fee prints at Rs 13,50,000. Chitkara's own-test route leads to a printed Rs 9,00,000 four-semester MBA table. Chandigarh University's CUCET doubles as a scholarship instrument, with printed grids running to a 100% waiver.
- Do these doors involve a management quota or donation?
- No — and that is the point of this page. Every door listed here is a published, test-based, merit process with a printed fee paid to the institution against a receipt. None of these pages prints a management-quota row. If someone offers to bypass even the university's own test for money, they are describing capitation, which is illegal.
