The short answer

As of September 2026, IMT Nagpur's Batch 2027-29 admissions are open for PGDM, PGDM (Financial Management) and PGDM (Marketing) on CAT 2026, XAT 2027, CMAT 2027 or GMAT, with a 50% graduation bar, 360 seats and a printed Rs 16 lakh total including hostel and mess. Its FAQ answers the quota question in one line: no management quota, selection purely on merit.

Selection process

  1. Hold a bachelor's degree of at least three years with 50% aggregate marks; final-year students may apply, with admission cancelled if the pass certificate is not submitted later.
  2. Apply online with a CAT 2026, XAT 2027, CMAT 2027 or GMAT score (GMAT valid from 1 January 2023 to 28 February 2027; GMAT scores must reach the institute by 15 March 2027).
  3. Applications run in phases with deadlines posted on the institute website; early phases close first.
  4. Shortlisted candidates attend an offline Personal Interview process for Batch 2027-29; process details are shared with shortlisted candidates in January 2027.
  5. The final selection is a consolidated score across entrance test, past academics, work experience and PI performance; there is no caste-based reservation at the institute.

Is there a management quota here?

No — and the institute prints the answer itself. IMT Nagpur's admissions FAQ, opened on 6 September 2026, states: 'There is no management quota. Selection is based purely on merit.' The same FAQ adds that there is no caste-based reservation either; every seat in the 360-seat matrix is filled on the consolidated merit score. If anyone offers you a priced IMT Nagpur seat outside this process, the offer contradicts the institute's own published page.

Institute of Management Technology, Nagpur is the plain-spoken campus of the IMT group: one admissions page that prints the exam menu, the 360-seat matrix, the all-in fee, three scholarship-adjusted totals, and — in its FAQ, in so many words — the answer to the question agents charge money to blur: “There is no management quota. Selection is based purely on merit.”

What should an applicant plan for?

Four test routes run this cycle: CAT 2026, XAT 2027, CMAT 2027 or GMAT (any score from 1 January 2023 to 28 February 2027, reaching the institute by 15 March 2027). The bar is a 50% graduation aggregate with final-year candidates welcome, applications move in phases, and the Personal Interview round for Batch 2027-29 is offline, with logistics mailed to shortlisted candidates in January 2027. The 360 seats split 240 core / 60 Marketing / 60 Financial Management, and the first-year courses are common across all three, with major-minor specialisations chosen later.

The money is printed as one honest total: Rs 16,00,000 for the whole two years including hostel, mess, books and the admission fee — a residential programme where everyone stays on campus. Then the page does something rare: it prints what each scholarship does to that total. Every admitted female student pays Rs 12,94,600 (the Smt Leela Nath Memorial Scholarship, 20% off the academic fee). A 90-percentile-plus CAT or XAT scorer — or a 700/645-plus GMAT scorer — pays Rs 9,89,200 (40% off the academic fee). And up to 5% of approved intake, under AICTE’s Tuition Fee Waiver clause 6.42, pays Rs 2,89,000 — one of the lowest verified totals for a two-year residential PGDM anywhere on this site. One rule applies throughout: a student eligible for more than one waiver opts into exactly one.

Placements are published as highlights rather than an audited report: Batch 2024-26 shows a Rs 24 LPA highest offer, an ongoing average of Rs 12 LPA, top-50 and top-10% averages of Rs 13.37 and Rs 18.44 LPA, 65+ companies, and 12 pre-placement offers out of summer internships at an average of Rs 16 LPA. Read those as the institute’s own published figures — the five checks in our placement-report guide apply — and compare the three IMT campuses side by side in our verified IMT comparison.

Questions, answered

Which exams does IMT Nagpur accept for Batch 2027-29?
Four, per the official admissions page opened on 6 September 2026: CAT 2026, XAT 2027, CMAT 2027, or GMAT with scores dated between 1 January 2023 and 28 February 2027 (GMAT scores must reach the institute by 15 March 2027). Nagpur is the only IMT campus in our verified set that takes CMAT.
What is the real total cost of the IMT Nagpur PGDM?
The printed Batch 2027-29 total is Rs 16,00,000 for two years including hostel, mess, books and the admission fee, on double occupancy. Scholarships move that total on the same page: Rs 12,94,600 for every admitted female student, Rs 9,89,200 at 90 percentile-plus on CAT/XAT or a 700/645-plus GMAT, and Rs 2,89,000 under the AICTE Tuition Fee Waiver for up to 5% of intake.
Is there a management quota at IMT Nagpur?
No. The institute's own admissions FAQ states: 'There is no management quota. Selection is based purely on merit.' It also states there is no caste-based reservation. Any paid route offered in IMT Nagpur's name contradicts the page the institute itself publishes.
What are IMT Nagpur's latest published placement numbers?
For Batch 2024-26, as printed on the admissions page when we opened it on 6 September 2026: highest package Rs 24 LPA, average Rs 12 LPA (marked ongoing), top-50 average Rs 13.37 LPA, top-10% average Rs 18.44 LPA, 65+ companies, and an average PPO package of Rs 16 LPA. These are institute-published figures, not an audited report — read them with our placement-report guide.
Is the IMT Nagpur PGDM an MBA?
In effect, yes: the page states the PGDM is equivalent to an MBA by the Association of Indian Universities. It is an AICTE-approved, two-year, fully residential PGDM — staying in the campus hostel is mandatory, on double occupancy at the published fee.
