MBA Through CMAT in 2026: The NTA Route, Verified College by College
Which MBA and PGDM programs accept CMAT in 2026, the percentile bars WeSchool, KJ Somaiya, Christ and Jain publish, and what a CMAT score cannot buy.
The short answer
As of July 2026, CMAT remains a fully legitimate NTA-run route into serious MBA and PGDM programs. WeSchool shortlists at 85 percentile CMAT for its flagship Mumbai PGDM, KJ Somaiya accepts CMAT 2026 among nine exams, and Christ, Jain and GITAM publish modest CMAT bars. The next cycle, CMAT 2027, is expected in January; confirm dates on the official NTA page.
CMAT sits in an odd spot in the exam conversation. It is a national exam run by the National Testing Agency and one of only six exams AICTE recognises for PGDM admission, yet most coverage either ignores it or gets its basic calendar wrong. This page states which colleges verifiably accept CMAT in the 2026 cycle, the exact bars they publish, and the one thing a CMAT score, high or low, can never buy.
Who conducts CMAT, and is it a serious route?
The NTA conducts CMAT, once per admission year, and yes, the route is serious. The official pages live at cmat.nta.nic.in and on the NTA portal at exams.nta.ac.in; those two addresses are the only source of dates and fees worth trusting.
The seriousness comes from regulation, not marketing. Under Appendix-9 of the AICTE Approval Process Handbook, every AICTE-approved PGDM institute may admit only candidates holding a score in CAT, XAT, CMAT, ATMA, MAT, GMAT or a state CET, selected “strictly on the basis of merit”. CMAT is written into that list, so a CMAT score is a full-status ticket into the PGDM system. What differs between exams is not legal standing but where each college sets its published bar. If the PGDM label itself is new to you, our PGDM vs MBA explainer covers why the diploma is often the better product.
When is the next CMAT, and what does it cost to sit?
CMAT 2027 is expected in January 2027, and its fee is not yet published: the NTA had not released the final calendar or fee schedule when we verified this page on 13 July 2026, so take both date and cost from the official NTA CMAT page. The one-cycle-per-year rhythm is the fact to plan around: the NTA’s official page shows a single annual cycle, so miss it and the CMAT lane closes until the following year. That is exactly why the multi-window MAT route exists as its natural backup.
One correction, because it circulates every season: CMAT is not held four times a year. That calendar belongs to MAT, run by AIMA. We have not printed the CMAT application fee because we could not verify it on an official page for the coming cycle; confirm the current fee and test-city list on the official NTA CMAT page before registering.
Which colleges accept CMAT in 2026, and at what bars?
Eight schools on our verified list accept CMAT; every bar below comes from the college’s own pages.
| College | What CMAT gets you | Published bar (source) |
|---|---|---|
| WeSchool (Mumbai and Bengaluru) | Shortlisting for PGDM 2026-28, all specialisations | 85 percentile Mumbai flagship group, 80 Bengaluru flagship group, 70 for Healthcare and Rural Management (official cutoff PDF, 2026-28) |
| K J Somaiya, Mumbai | One of nine accepted exams for MBA 2026-28 | No public CMAT cutoff; the exam counts 25% of the selection composite (kjsim.somaiya.edu admission page) |
| Christ University, Bangalore | Eligibility for MBA 2026 | CMAT 2026 at 60 percentile plus; the score is treated as an eligibility criterion only (christuniversity.in) |
| Jain (CMS Business School), Bangalore | Exemption from the JET written test | CMAT 2026 at 50 percentile plus; essay, presentation and interview remain (jainuniversity.ac.in JET MBA page) |
| GITAM (Bengaluru, Hyderabad) | Exemption from GBAT, GITAM’s own test | 60% bachelor’s degree eligibility; scholarship slabs mapped to CMAT percentile (programmes.gitam.edu) |
| O.P. Jindal Global University | Direct acceptance for the full-time MBA | CMAT at the 50th percentile (jgu.edu.in admissions page) |
| UPES, Dehradun | Straight to interview, skipping UPESMET | CMAT at 70 percentile (upes.ac.in exemption criteria) |
| MIT-WPU, Pune | Accepted alongside the university’s own 50-mark test, GD and PI | 60% graduation eligibility (admissions.mitwpu.edu.in) |
Two details in that table deserve a slower read. First, WeSchool prices CMAT slightly above CAT: its Mumbai flagship group shortlists at 80 percentile in CAT, XAT or GMAT but 85 percentile in CMAT or ATMA, per the official entrance-test cutoff PDF for 2026-28. A CMAT percentile is not interchangeable with a CAT percentile; use each college’s own conversion. WeSchool’s published tuition is Rs 7,50,000 per year plus other charges, marked subject to change (welingkar.org PGDM pages, as displayed April 2026); confirm the exact 2026-28 batch figure with the institute.
Second, KJ Somaiya weights the exam at only 25% of its composite, with the personal interview at 30%, academic profile at 15%, written ability test and problem-situation analysis at 10% each, and work experience at 10% (kjsim.somaiya.edu admission page, 2026-28 batch). A moderate CMAT score with a strong interview can beat a high score with a weak one. The fee there is published too: Rs 11,52,000 for year one and Rs 12,35,500 for year two of the MBA, batch 2026-28 (kjsim.somaiya.edu admission page).
Does Great Lakes still take CMAT?
For the current 2027 intake, CMAT does not appear on Great Lakes’ published exam lists, so do not assume it. The 2027-intake admissions pages, checked on 13 July 2026, list GMAT taken after 1 January 2024, CAT 2025 or 2026, and XAT 2026 or 2027 for both programs, with NMAT 2025 and 2026 added only for the one-year PGPM (greatlakes.edu.in admissions pages). In the previous 2026-28 PGDM cycle Great Lakes did accept CMAT, per the same official site, which is why older lists name it as a CMAT school.
Exam acceptance is a per-cycle, per-program decision the college republishes every year. If Great Lakes is on your list, check the official admissions page for your intake before you spend an application fee on an assumption.
How does CMAT compare with MAT and the other accessible exams?
CMAT is the single accessible exam that opens the most doors on our verified list, but it gives you one shot a year. That trade defines the choice. MAT, by contrast, runs in multiple windows through the year, which makes it the recoverable exam: miss or fumble one window and another arrives. Christ accepts both, with published minimums of MAT 600 plus or 60 percentile plus in CAT, XAT, CMAT or ATMA (christuniversity.in, MBA 2026 eligibility). Jain’s JET exemption takes CMAT at 50 percentile or MAT at 550 plus (jainuniversity.ac.in).
The practical reading: if your target list is WeSchool, KJ Somaiya, Christ, Jain, GITAM, JGU, UPES or MIT-WPU, CMAT covers all eight from one exam day. For insurance against a bad day, pair it with a MAT window or a university’s own exam. The full map of own-exam routes sits in our direct MBA admission guide, and if you missed the CAT season entirely, the MBA without CAT guide starts from where you actually are.
Can money replace a low CMAT score?
No. There is no exam-free PGDM at any AICTE-approved institute, and no quiet paid lane behind the CMAT merit list. Appendix-9 requires 100 percent of PGDM seats to be filled from entrance-exam qualifiers on merit, and the CMAT-accepting universities say the same thing in writing about their own processes. KJ Somaiya publishes an anti-fraud notice stating it has no agents or liaisons and that admissions run “only through the transparent admission process” (kjsim.somaiya.edu). Great Lakes states on both admissions pages that it does not admit under management quota in any form and that third parties offering such seats are fraudulent (greatlakes.edu.in).
So treat any promise of a certain seat at these schools, at any price, as the signature of fraud. If your score lands below the published bars, the honest moves are in the table above: a school that weights the interview above the exam, a school that treats the score as eligibility only, or a different exam window. Our guide for candidates with a low CAT score walks the same logic, and it applies to CMAT unchanged.
How does Udaan help with the CMAT route?
We tell you whether CMAT is the right exam for your list, and if it is not, we say so. Bring your graduation marks, work experience and target cities, and we will map them against the bars on this page, plan around the one annual CMAT cycle, and manage each application through the college’s own process. We have no partner colleges and take no commissions; every fee goes to the college, against its published fee structure, with a receipt. And if the honest answer for your profile is that none of these doors is open this year, we will tell you exactly that.

- Who conducts CMAT, the NTA or AICTE?
- The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts CMAT, once per admission year, with the official pages at cmat.nta.nic.in and exams.nta.ac.in. AICTE's role is different: under Appendix-9 of its Approval Process Handbook, CMAT is one of the six exams whose qualifiers every AICTE-approved PGDM institute may admit, strictly on merit.
- Which good MBA colleges accept CMAT in 2026?
- On our verified list: WeSchool (PGDM 2026-28, both campuses, per its official cutoff PDF), KJ Somaiya (one of nine accepted exams on its admission page), Christ University (CMAT 2026 at 60 percentile plus, treated as eligibility only), Jain CMS (JET written-test exemption at 50 percentile), GITAM (GBAT exemption), plus O.P. Jindal, UPES and MIT-WPU at published bars.
- What CMAT percentile does WeSchool ask for?
- 85 percentile for the Mumbai flagship PGDM group, 80 for the Bengaluru flagship group, and 70 for PGDM Healthcare Management and Rural Management, per the official entrance-test cutoff PDF for the 2026-28 batch. Note that WeSchool's CMAT bar sits 5 percentile above its CAT bar for the same programs.
- Is CMAT held four times a year?
- No. The NTA conducts CMAT once per admission year, and its official page shows a single annual cycle; CMAT 2027 is expected in January 2027. The four-windows-a-year calendar belongs to MAT, run by AIMA. Articles that swap the two have not read either official site.
- Does Great Lakes accept CMAT?
- It did for the 2026-28 PGDM cycle, per greatlakes.edu.in. But its 2027-intake admissions pages, checked on 13 July 2026, list GMAT, CAT and XAT for both programs, with NMAT added only for the one-year PGPM, and CMAT appears in neither list. Confirm on the official admissions page before you count on it.
- Can I get a PGDM seat without any exam if I pay?
- No. Every AICTE-approved PGDM institute must admit only candidates holding a score in CAT, XAT, CMAT, ATMA, MAT, GMAT or a state CET, selected strictly on merit, per Appendix-9 of the AICTE Approval Process Handbook. Anyone selling an exam-free seat, or a promise of a certain one, is describing something that legally does not exist.
