MAT September 2026: The Four-Door Exam for MBA Aspirants Who Missed Everything Else

MAT is the exam this site’s readers should stop overlooking. AIMA’s MAT September 2026 session is now complete — the paper test sat on 13 September and the computer test on 20 September. Scores are due by the last week of the month — this week — per AIMA’s own page, re-read today. It remains the only major MBA exam that lets you re-enter the same admission cycle after a bad result, up to four times a year. December is next; AIMA still has not printed candidate dates for it.

The September 2026 window

AIMA’s MAT page, re-opened today (22 September), prints the completed September 2026 schedule on its new URL (PBT registration closed 7 September, test sat 13 September; CBT registration closed 14 September, test sat 20 September; scores due by the last week of September 2026) — note the page itself moved: the old /testing-services/mat path now 404s and /content/testing-and-assessment/mat/mat governs, disclosed. What is verified today: the September session has fully run, and the December session is the next door — MAT runs in February, May, September and December. The page still offers no candidate schedule for December 2026 — the sixth consecutive daily check — so we do not build a December session page yet. The portal (mat.aima.in) still 403s from this host — disclosed. The printed fee is Rs 2,300 for one mode, Rs 4,000 for both.

How the scoring works (the part most guides garble)

MAT reports five sections — Language Comprehension, Mathematical Skills, Data Analysis & Sufficiency, Intelligence & Critical Reasoning, and Economic & Business Environment — each on a 0-100 scale, with equal weightage combining into a composite score on a 200-800 scale. AIMA normalises across sessions by statistical equating and prints a percentile-below figure for each score, which shifts marginally administration to administration. Two consequences: a 600 composite is not “60%”, and MAT scores are not comparable to CAT percentiles despite every aggregator table you have seen. AIMA says this itself: MAT-Score is not to be compared with other tests.

Where a MAT score opens a printed door

The verified bars from our MAT route page: Christ University asks 600 and above to apply — and states in writing that the entrance score is eligibility-only, with interviews deciding; Jain CMS exempts its JET written test at 550 and above. Today’s wave adds two more wide doors: IMDR Pune (six-exam menu, Rs 6 lakh total) and NDIM Delhi (seven exams, Rs 13.75 lakh with a percentile-keyed scholarship pool). At the AICTE layer, MAT is one of the six tests standalone PGDM institutes may admit on — which is why hundreds of institutes list it, and why the honest check is always the institute’s own current page, not a 500-row aggregator table.

Who sat today — and who should plan December

The CBT on 20 September was for candidates already registered. Everyone else should read the four-session cadence as the plan: you, if any of these is true — you missed CAT 2026 registration (it closed 15 September); your mocks sit below the IIM floors our percentile-band page maps; you want a parallel application track; or your target list is MAT-heavy by design (Christ, Jain, the ATMA-participating PGDM set, Jaipur’s colleges). The December session converts a bad September into a data point instead of a lost year — and that, not any difficulty comparison, is MAT’s real edge.
