Direct MBA Admission in Indore 2026: One CAT-Only IIM, One NMAT-Only Deemed, Two Own-Test Doors

Direct MBA admission in Indore 2026: IIM Indore's Rs 24,11,800 CAT route, NMIMS Indore's NMAT door, PIMR's own test plus five national exams, and Medicaps' regulator-approved Rs 1,35,000-a-year MBA — from official documents.

The short answer

As of 15 September 2026, direct MBA admission in Indore runs through four documented doors: IIM Indore (CAT only, Rs 24,11,800 printed), NMIMS Indore (NMAT by GMAC, 50% bar, fee unpublished), PIMR (CAT/MAT/XAT/CMAT/ATMA plus its own mandatory admission test) and Medicaps University (mandatory MU-SAT, fee fixed by the state regulator at Rs 1,35,000 a year). No paid quota row is published.

Indore is the cleanest quota-truth story among India’s Tier-2 MBA cities. The state’s own rule book publishes no institute-level paid channel, and the city’s four verified institutions show four different honest doors instead: one national-exam-only IIM, one single-exam deemed university, one anything-plus-our-own-test institute, and one university whose fee is set by the state regulator in writing. This page maps all four from documents opened on 15 September 2026.

The four doors, in selectivity order

Door one — IIM Indore, CAT-only, Rs 24,11,800. The PGP page, re-read today, prints the resident-Indian two-year course fee at Rs 24,11,800 (Rs 36,11,800 for NRI candidates), with access to lectures, computer facilities, library, alumni fee and lodging inside the number, and textbooks, mess and insurance outside it. Admission runs through CAT alone on the institute’s published percentile table, then the interview round — the triple-accredited (EQUIS, AACSB, AMBA) flagship with the rural-engagement and Himalayan-outbound components in the design. There is no other door, and no quota layer exists in any published IIM Indore document.

Door two — NMIMS Indore, NMAT-only. The School of Business Management’s MBA is a two-year, six-trimester programme with a 50% graduation bar, and selection is printed as one line: NMAT by GMAC. That is the whole door — the university’s admission handout states NMAT is mandatory for its MBA and that only the first attempt’s score is accepted. The Indore page publishes no fee; the verified figure for the university’s flagship Mumbai MBA lives on our NMIMS fee page, and the honest move for Indore is to request the campus figure in writing. What is certain today: no management quota exists at NMIMS — the university prints that caution itself.

Door three — PIMR’s five-exams-plus-our-own door. The Prestige Institute of Management and Research — a deemed university — runs seven MBA programmes (Core, Marketing, Financial Administration, International Business, Personnel Administration, Advertising & Public Relations, Business Analytics) on a 50% bar (45% for reserved categories), per its Admission Policy 2026-27 read today. Candidates may carry CAT, MAT, XAT, CMAT, ATMA or a recognised state-test percentile — but the PIMR Admission Test is mandatory for everyone, followed by group discussion and personal interview, with the merit list consolidating the test score, GD, PI and Class-10/12/graduation marks. The policy also prints its refund rules: the application and admission-registration fees are non-refundable, and cancellations run through the official portal only. The fee itself is not published in the policy — a disclosed gap, never a guess.

Door four — Medicaps’ regulator-priced MBA at Rs 1,35,000 a year. The state’s private-university regulator — the MP Private University Regulatory Commission — published a fee-approval order for Medicaps University (session 2024-25) that fixes the MBA and MBA (Logistics & SCM) fee at Rs 1,35,000 a year approved, against Rs 1,50,000 proposed (tuition Rs 1,14,750 plus development Rs 20,250), and MBA (Business Analytics) at Rs 2,80,000 approved against Rs 3,00,000 proposed. We re-read the scanned order today. Admission runs through the university’s own MU-SAT/MLAT entrance, mandatory for all prospective students, on any three-year degree. At roughly Rs 2.7 lakh for the course, this is central India’s budget floor for a university MBA — with the price certainty coming from a regulator’s signature, not a marketing page.

The missing quota row — and why it protects you

Madhya Pradesh’s official rule book runs affiliated-college MBA seats through counselling on CMAT merit with a 5% NRI first-fill inside counselling — and stops there. No institute-level quota provision exists in print. IIM Indore’s CAT-only route, NMIMS’s NMAT-only route, PIMR’s published merit list and Medicaps’ mandatory own test are what replace it. An agent selling an Indore ‘management seat’ is selling a channel no document describes. The state-wide map, with the rule-book lines, is on our Madhya Pradesh quota page.

How Udaan helps in Indore

We tell you which door fits: whether Medicaps’ regulator-priced MBA beats a year of NMAT preparation for your budget, how PIMR’s mandatory own test changes the plan when you already hold a MAT or CMAT score, and what the honest fee picture is once NMIMS Indore answers in writing. And if someone quotes you an Indore seat with a ‘donation’ attached, we will show you the state’s rule book and the four institutions’ published pages — none of which contain that door.

Straight answers

Is direct MBA admission legal in Indore?
Yes — when it is the institution's own published process. Indore's four verified doors are a state IIM on CAT alone, a deemed university on NMAT alone, a deemed institute running its own test beside five national exams, and a private university with a mandatory in-house entrance. Each ends in a merit list and a receipt from the institution. Madhya Pradesh's official rule book, mapped on our state page, provides no institute-level paid-quota channel at all.
Which management quota exists for MBA in Indore?
On the published record: none at these four. Madhya Pradesh's 58-page DTE rule book for 2026-27 routes MBA admission through counselling on CMAT merit with a 50%/45% bar and a 5% NRI first-fill inside counselling — it contains no institute-level quota provision. IIM Indore admits through CAT alone, NMIMS through NMAT alone, and PIMR's own policy document runs every seat through its test-GD-PI merit list. An agent's 'management seat' claim in Indore has no printed document behind it.
Can I get an MBA in Indore without CAT?
Yes, three of the four doors do not need CAT. NMIMS Indore takes NMAT by GMAC. PIMR accepts CAT, MAT, XAT, CMAT, ATMA or a recognised state test — and runs its own mandatory PIMR Admission Test regardless, with GD and PI. Medicaps makes its own MU-SAT/MLAT entrance mandatory for all prospective MBA students. Only IIM Indore is CAT-only.
What does an MBA in Indore actually cost?
Two ends of the ladder are printed. IIM Indore's PGP page, re-read on 15 September 2026, prints Rs 24,11,800 for two years for resident Indians (Rs 36,11,800 for NRI candidates), with alumni fee and lodging inside and textbooks, mess and insurance outside. Medicaps University's MBA is fixed by the MP Private University Regulatory Commission at Rs 1,35,000 a year (MBA Business Analytics Rs 2,80,000) — an approved figure the regulator cut from the university's proposal. NMIMS Indore and PIMR do not publish their MBA fees on reachable pages; we do not guess — ask both offices for the current figure in writing.
Is it too late for an Indore MBA this year?
Cycles differ by door. IIM Indore's window rides the national CAT calendar — CAT 2026 registration closes 15 September at 5 pm, with the test on 29 November 2026. NMIMS's window rides NMAT's registration and delivery windows. PIMR and Medicaps run their own calendars with rolling tests; ask each admissions office which round is live this month.
An agent offers an IIM Indore or NMIMS 'management seat'. Real?
Counterfeit by construction. IIM Indore fills every PGP seat through CAT shortlists and interviews — there is no quota layer in any published document. NMIMS states in its official admission handout that NMAT is the mandatory exam and publishes a running caution that there is no management quota at NMIMS for any programme. Keep your money; verify anything directly with the published admissions mailboxes.
