The short answer

As of 31 August 2026, Madhya Pradesh runs no seat-for-sale management quota for MBA. The DTE's official 2026-27 rule book puts every counselling seat through centralised counselling on the CMAT common merit list (50% graduation bar, 45% for MP SC/ST/OBC), fills a 5% NRI layer first, and clears vacant seats in further rounds. Private universities run their own processes outside DTE.

Madhya Pradesh is the state agents love to blur, because it has three different admission systems running side by side — DTE centralised counselling for affiliated colleges, state private universities with their own tests, and the NRI layer. The official 2026-27 rule book, which we downloaded from the DTE portal on 31 August 2026 after four days of the site being unreachable, draws the lines cleanly. The short version: for MBA, there is no management quota to buy.

What does the rule book actually say?

Every MBA seat in the counselling system fills on the CMAT common merit list — the NTA exam — with a 50% graduation bar (45% for MP SC, ST and OBC non-creamy-layer candidates) and a three-year degree after 10+2. The NRI layer exists but is not a back door: up to 5% of approved intake in permitted institutes fills first, through the same centralised counselling, and whatever stays empty merges into the MP domicile pool.

Vacant seats stay inside the process. After round one, further rounds run on the CMAT rank and/or the qualifying-degree marks, and anything still open is filled under the Admission Rules 2008 per the process notified on the portal — including a final-round window where other-state candidates can take leftovers after MP domiciles. Institutes join counselling only if they hold university affiliation, state permission and a fee fixed by the Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee.

What sits outside DTE counselling?

State private universities. They run their own published processes — Medicaps University in Indore admits through its MU-SAT, under fees the MP Private University Regulatory Commission approved (and actually cut below the university’s proposal). That is a legal, published route; it is just not a DTE counselling seat, and it still is not a “quota” — the university fills seats on its own stated criteria.

The DTE published the MBA/MCA counselling schedule on 16 June 2026 and revised it on 10 July and 28 July 2026, per the notices on its counselling homepage. The 2026-27 rounds are therefore complete; anyone still “selling” a 2026-27 DTE counselling seat in September is selling something the calendar has already closed.
