Management Quota in Gujarat (2026): ACPC, CMAT and the Vacant-Seat Truth

Gujarat is the state where the “management quota” pitch has the least official cover, because the state’s admission machinery leaves almost nothing outside itself. One committee, the Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC), working under the Directorate of Technical Education, runs one online counselling for MBA and MCA across government, grant-in-aid and unaided colleges, and it publishes opening and closing ranks for every college when the rounds close. This page is the honest map for 2026: what the law creates, what the calendar was, and what is actually true about seats left over when the rounds end.

Is there a management quota in Gujarat?

Not by that name, and not as a product you can buy. The state’s framework is the Gujarat Professional Technical Educational Colleges or Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Fixation of Fees) Act, 2007 (Act No. 2 of 2008), which put both admission and fee fixation for professional colleges under state regulation. ACPC’s portal describes its own job plainly: “Admission and eCounselling Services”, run online, for the session. The sanctioned intake of unaided (self-financed) institutions sits inside this counselling, not outside it.

So the two products separate cleanly again. What the law creates: a single, advertised, merit-ranked online process at state-fixed fees, with published vacancy positions. What agents sell in Gujarat’s cities: a “management seat” in an affiliated college for a premium, presented as a parallel system. No such parallel system appears anywhere on the official portal. How does ACPC’s MBA admission work?

On CMAT merit, full stop. ACPC’s official advertisement for MBA/MCA 2026-27, dated 25.05.2026, states the mandatory requirement in one sentence: the aspiring candidate shall have appeared in CMAT-2026, conducted by NTA and prescribed by AICTE, and shall have passed the qualifying examination with minimum 50% (45% for SC, ST, SEBC and EWS candidates). The MBA qualification itself is a bachelor’s degree of at least three years. The merit list is prepared on the obtained CMAT-2026 score, per the same advertisement.

Domicile is built into the seat matrix. For 95% of seats in government and grant-in-aid institutions, and for the sanctioned intake of unaided institutions, the candidate qualifies through colleges located in Gujarat. For 5% of government and grant-in-aid seats, candidates from outside Gujarat are eligible. Result-awaited candidates can apply and are admitted provisionally, finalised only when eligibility documents are submitted.

One transparency feature deserves attention, because it is the exact opposite of how agents operate: after the online admission process closes, ACPC publishes the opening and closing CMAT rank and score for every institute, category by category. Where does the 2026-27 cycle stand?

The online rounds are complete; the cycle is in its post-round phase. From the official provisional key dates (18.05.2026) and the portal’s notices, checked 18 August 2026:

What about seats left after the rounds?

Here is the honest answer, with the honesty doing real work. Gujarat’s official portal displays the vacancy after each round, and the admission rules that govern post-round filling live at acpc.gujarat.gov.in/mba-mca-rules. That page would not open for us on 18 August 2026, so we will not paraphrase a rule text we could not read. What we can say from what did open: the vacancy is published officially, the process around it is rule-bound, and any seat offered to you in Gujarat should be traceable to your own login on gujacpc.admissions.nic.in. If an agent’s seat cannot be seen there, it is not part of Gujarat’s system.

What sits outside ACPC entirely?

Deemed and private universities with their own admission processes. Gujarat has several, and they set their own accepted exams, fees and calendars. Two disciplines protect you here. First, “outside ACPC” never means “without process”: a legitimate university publishes its criteria and admits on them. Second, the premium test still applies: any amount demanded above the university’s published fee is the agent’s cut, not a quota price. The Ahmedabad region now gives this page its cleanest illustration: IRMA’s MBA — run since 2026 under “Tribhuvan” Sahkari University, an Institution of National Importance — publishes the widest exam menu among Indian B-schools (CAT, XAT, CMAT, CUET PG, GATE, GMAT, GRE) with a Rs 8,70,000 fee and, on its own eligibility page, the sentence “There is no management quota for admission to MBA at TSU.” At the other end of the fee ladder, BK School’s grant-in-aid Gujarat University MBA seats flow entirely through ACPC at Rs 6,500 a year.
