Direct MBA Admission in Ahmedabad 2026: IIMA's New 2027-29 Policy, IRMA's No-Quota Line and Gujarat's Rs 6,500 Floor

Ahmedabad’s direct-admission answer changed days ago. IIM Ahmedabad has posted its Admission Policy for the PGP 2027-29 batch — the first 2027-29 policy from any IIM we have opened — with the cut-off table and selection formula printed in full. Below that ceiling, the city runs three more verified doors: MICA’s MICAT route, IRMA’s nine-exam menu with a written no-quota line, and a Gujarat University department whose fee is Rs 6,500 a year. This page maps all four from documents opened on 14 September 2026.

The four doors, in honesty order

Door one — IIM Ahmedabad’s freshly printed CAT route. The new policy sets the General/EWS floor at 95 overall percentile with 85 in each section (NC-OBC 90/80, SC 85/75, ST 75/65, plus lower PwD columns). Shortlisting runs on a composite of 65% CAT total percentile and 35% a normalised application rating built from 10th, 12th and graduation percentages, work experience (0.20 multiplication factor, capped at five points from 36 months) and three gender-diversity points for non-male candidates. Final selection: 50% personal interview, 10% analytical writing test, 40% composite. The calendar is printed too — AWT-PI shortlists in the second week of January 2027, offers in the second week of April 2027, acceptance formalities by the first week of May 2027. Eligibility is a 50% bachelor’s bar (45% SC/ST/PwD), with final-year candidates admitted provisionally against a 30 June 2027 completion deadline. Reservations are statutory only — 27% NC-OBC, 15% SC, 7.5% ST, 5% PwD, up to 10% EWS — and no management, NRI or donation route appears anywhere in the document. The PGP fee is not published on the redesigned site; the payback anchor is the IPRS-audited 2025 report (average Rs 35.22 lakh, median Rs 34.53 lakh).

Door two — MICA’s MICAT route. The specialist door for marketing and communication careers: CAT, XAT or GMAT plus MICA’s own MICAT, held twice with the better score counting, then a Group Exercise and Personal Interview. The fee is Rs 28 lakh for the 2025-27 batch, and the 2026-27 placement season placed 197 students at a Rs 20.12 lakh average per the institute’s own brochure. One honest timing note: MICA’s page today still runs the 2026-cycle shell — the 2027-29 MICAT schedule is not yet posted, so the next cycle’s dates are a watch item, not a guess.

Door three — IRMA’s nine-exam door with the printed no-quota line. Now the Tribhuvan Sahkari University, the institute prints the sentence this whole page exists to amplify: “There is no management quota for admission to MBA at TSU.” The route it does offer is wide — CAT, XAT, CMAT, CUET PG, GATE, GMAT or GRE, then an online interview — at a printed Rs 8,70,000 total for 2026-28 (Rs 4,00,000 a year tuition plus Rs 70,000 refundable deposits), a Rs 2,000 application (Rs 1,000 concession categories, BPL-exempt), and audited placements averaging Rs 15.72 lakh. The one separate category is employer-sponsored candidates: separately tested, capped, and carrying no campus placement eligibility — a published employment-linked channel, not a purchasable seat.

Door four — BK School’s Rs 6,500-a-year government floor. Gujarat University’s own management department admits through CMAT via the state’s ACPC counselling, graduation at 50% (45% SC/ST), at a grant-in-aid fee of Rs 6,500 per year — the cheapest verified MBA door in the state. An offline evening route exists for working executives with three years’ supervisory experience. The honest gap: no salary statistics are published, so outcomes stay a question for the department, in writing.

The missing quota row — and why it protects you

Ahmedabad is a hard city for the quota story: the flagship prints its formula to three decimal places, the rural-management institute prints its denial in words, the university department’s fee is fixed by the government, and the specialist’s cycle is test-gated twice over. When an agent offers an Ahmedabad seat ‘through contacts’, ask which of those four documents he is claiming to override — then ask the institution, whose mailbox is on the same page.
