Great Lakes Selection Process (2026): PGPM vs PGDM, Stage by Stage

Great Lakes Chennai runs two different programmes with two different selection processes, and most confusion about “Great Lakes admission” comes from blurring them. The one-year PGPM selects experienced candidates through essays and two in-person interview rounds. The two-year PGDM selects freshers through an AI-proctored video interview and an online personal interview. This page walks through both processes stage by stage, with every fact tied to the institute’s own admissions pages, both accessed 13 July 2026.

Which Great Lakes programme should you apply to?

Your work experience decides it, and the institute has drawn the line in print. The PGPM asks for a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% across Class 10, Class 12 and the undergraduate degree; candidates with 2+ years of work experience are considered, and the official PGPM admissions page encourages those who will have 2-3 years of experience by 30 April 2027 to apply. The PGDM asks for a higher academic bar, a minimum of 60% across the same three levels, and limits eligibility to freshers and candidates with strictly less than 36 months of work experience, per the official PGDM admissions page.

Read those two lines together and the fork is clean: roughly, three or more years of experience rules out the PGDM, and no experience makes the PGPM a long shot the institute has not designed for. The formats differ too. The PGPM is a one-year, full-time, AICTE-approved programme running since 2004, per its programme page. The PGDM is a two-year, full-time AICTE-approved programme that the institute’s PGDM page describes as an MBA equivalent as validated by AIU, with NBA accreditation listed on the official accreditations page. What are the stages of the PGPM selection process?

Three stages, all published on the official PGPM admissions page.

1. Online application. You apply on greatlakes.edu.in with a fee of Rs 2,200 (official PGPM admissions page, accessed 13 July 2026). A single form can cover both the Chennai and Gurgaon campuses.
2. Profile evaluation. The institute evaluates your GMAT, CAT, XAT or NMAT score, past academic performance, essays and work experience. The essays are not decoration; they also feed the published scholarship decisions, since the PGPM’s 40 diversity and merit scholarships of Rs 5 lakhs each are shortlisted through the same application form, essays and interview assessment, with no separate scholarship application (official PGPM admissions page, scholarships section).
3. Two interview rounds. An analytical writing test and a personal interview, held in person in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kolkata.

What are the stages of the PGDM selection process?

Also three stages, but the shape is different, per the official PGDM admissions page.

1. Online application. The same Rs 2,200 online application on greatlakes.edu.in.
2. AI-proctored video interview. A recorded, proctored round rather than a face-to-face one.
3. Personal interview, online. The final round is conducted online, and the decision weighs your GMAT, CAT or XAT score, past academic performance, work experience and performance in both interviews together.

The practical difference from the PGPM: no essays are listed as a separate component, and nothing requires travel. The PGPM interviews you in person in six cities; the PGDM process runs on your screen.

Which exams does each programme accept, and is there a cutoff?

The lists differ, and neither carries a published cutoff. For the PGPM’s 2027-28 admission process, the official page accepts GMAT taken after 1 January 2024 in all editions (Classic, Focus and Online), CAT 2025 or 2026, and XAT 2026 or 2027. NMAT 2025 and NMAT 2026 takers are also listed in the cycle tables. One clarification worth making because agents muddy it: NMAT acceptance here is Great Lakes’ own decision about its own programme, and NMIMS has no role in Great Lakes admissions. Which years and editions of each exam count is exactly what the official page specifies, and nothing beyond it; how many attempts an exam itself allows is a separate matter that says nothing about any school’s policy.

The PGDM list is shorter. For the 2027 intake, the official page accepts GMAT taken on or after 1 January 2024, CAT 2025 or 2026, and XAT 2026 or 2027. NMAT is not listed for the PGDM.

On cutoffs, the honest answer is that Great Lakes publishes none. No minimum percentile or score appears on either admissions page, and we will not invent one from aggregator tables. What is published instead is the requirement itself: the PGDM admissions page states that all applicants are required to appear for GMAT, CAT or XAT before applying. A profile-based early interview exists for registrants still awaiting results, but the score requirement is not waived; the final offer comes only after scores are submitted. What are the application deadlines?

As of 13 July 2026, there are no actionable deadlines: the site is mid-transition between seasons. The PGPM admissions page for the 2027-28 process lists four application cycles, and every deadline reads “To be announced”. The PGDM page is titled for the 2027-29 intake but still shows dated cycles running 4 December 2025 to 15 March 2026, which read as leftovers of the season now closing rather than fresh dates. Treat neither set as actionable. Watch the two official admissions pages for the new cycle tables, and apply early in the cycle once they post; both processes are cycle-based, so a complete application in an early cycle is the one timing advantage that is actually in your control.

Is there a management quota or paid route into Great Lakes?

No, and the institute says so in writing on both admissions pages. The notice states that Great Lakes does not admit students under management quota or any other form of reservation, that any third party offering management-quota seats for its programmes would be fraudulent, and that applicants are requested not to approach such organisations or individuals. No third party is authorised to initiate applications; the only way in is the online application on greatlakes.edu.in.

That closes every version of the pitch. A promise of a certain seat at Great Lakes is a promise the institute has pre-labelled fraudulent.
