What are the stages of KJ Somaiya MBA selection for 2027-29?

Six scored components, published with exact weights on the official KJSIM MBA admission page — and the page now prints SEPARATE tables for the merit-based and profile-based shortlists, plus its own weights for each specialised MBA.

Read the table the way the institute wrote it — it is the merit-based flagship-MBA table. The entrance exam is a quarter of your score. The interview alone outweighs it at 30%, and the two assessment rounds, the online WAT and the offline PSA, add another 20% that no exam percentile can buy. A strong academic record and real work experience contribute 25% before you say a word. This is a profile-and-performance process with an exam gate at the front, not an exam rank list.

And the page now prints the profile-based alternative in full: candidates who miss the merit cutoff are automatically considered if they show consistent academics across Class 10, 12/Diploma and graduation, between 12 and 42 months of full-time paid work experience after graduation, and a valid entrance score. Under the profile-based weights the interview rises to 40% and the entrance score falls to 15% — the printed arithmetic of a second chance. The specialised MBAs carry their own tables: MBA-HCM adds a 5% additional-qualification component, and MBA-SM scores sports achievements (national level 15%, state 5% among the printed rows).

The process feeds a large intake: 600 seats plus supernumerary seats for the flagship MBA, and 30 seats each for the MBAs in Healthcare Management, Sports Management and Marketing Communications, per the admission page.

Which exams does KJ Somaiya accept?

Nine, per the admission page re-read on 19 September 2026 for the 2027-29 cycle, now printed with year labels: CAT 2026, XAT 2027, GMAT (scores valid 1 January 2024 to 20 January 2027), NMAT (best of two attempts), CMAT 2027, MAT 2026, ATMA 2027, PERA-CET 2027 and CUET 2027.

One honesty note, because the institute’s own pages moved during the cycle. When the 2027-29 page first went live it showed five exams (CAT/XAT/GMAT/NMAT/CMAT); the full nine-exam table with year labels prints on today’s read. Treat the admission page as the current cycle’s source, and confirm the exam list there before you plan around it.

The nine-exam list is wide by design. PERA-CET, the private-university entrance, appears in it because KJ Somaiya sits outside Maharashtra’s MAH-CET CAP system as a constituent of Somaiya Vidyavihar University, a private university under the Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai Act 2019 per the university’s own FAQs. Does retaking NMAT help at KJ Somaiya?

Yes. The KJSIM MBA programme page states that the best of two NMAT attempts will be considered. A second sitting can only help your standing here.

Keep the policies separate, because this is the most conflated rule in the NMAT ecosystem. The exam itself allows multiple attempts, but what each school does with them is the school’s rule, not the exam’s:

• KJ Somaiya MBA: best of two attempts, per the KJSIM programme page.

Who is eligible to apply?

Anyone pursuing or having completed a minimum three-year graduate programme in any discipline, with minimum 50% aggregate marks, from any university recognised by AIU or AICTE, per the KJSIM MBA admission page. Final-year students can apply on that “pursuing” clause. There is no published work-experience requirement; experience is a scored component worth 10%, not an entry condition, so freshers are eligible and simply concede those marks.

What cutoff do you need?

The institute publishes no cutoff numbers. The programme page requires shortlisted candidates to clear the cut-off of the accepted exams, but no figure is stated for any exam on either official page. That is the complete published picture.

A number nobody publishes is a number anybody can invent, and unpublished cutoffs are where “safe score” tables and agent assurances breed. If a counsellor quotes you a percentile that supposedly assures shortlisting at KJ Somaiya, ask for the official page it appears on, because we could not find one. Confirm what is currently published on the official admission page and treat everything else as marketing.

What you can act on is the structure. The exam is 25%. A middling score with a strong interview, a clear WAT, a sensible PSA performance and a solid academic record can outscore a higher percentile with a weak second stage, because 75% of the marks sit after the exam gate.

Can any paid route bypass these stages?

No, and the institute says so on the same page that publishes the process. The KJSIM admission page carries an anti-fraud notice stating that admissions are facilitated only through the transparent published admission process, and that the institute has no agents, liaisons, admissions office representatives or MOUs. There is no authorised middleman, so anyone selling access is selling something the institute states in writing does not exist.

There is also no quota layer to sell. KJ Somaiya publishes no management quota route, and as a private-university constituent it sits outside the MAH-CET CAP system, so Maharashtra’s institute-level quota rules do not apply here either.
