MDI Gurgaon vs IIM Kozhikode: The Live Window Against the Signed Fee
MDI Gurgaon vs IIM Kozhikode: Rs 26,55,310 against the signed Rs 23,50,000 — a live application window against CAT's 60/60/60 floor, priced from official PDFs today.
The short answer
As of 7 October 2026, MDI Gurgaon's PGDM prints Rs 26,55,310 against IIM Kozhikode's signed Rs 23,50,000 — Rs 3,05,310 apart. MDI's 2027-29 application is live now and closes 28 November, a day before CAT; Kozhikode's three-stage process runs after CAT and opens with the 60/60/60 academic floor most candidates misread.
A private heavyweight with a live application window, and an IIM with a signed fee PDF and the most-missed academic floor in admissions season. MDI Gurgaon’s PGDM prints Rs 26,55,310. IIM Kozhikode’s signed table prints Rs 23,50,000. Both documents were re-read today, 7 October 2026 — MDI’s page in the browser, Kozhikode’s scanned PDF by OCR. The Rs 3,05,310 gap is the simple part; the calendars are what actually decide this.

The honest label: Kozhikode is cheaper by Rs 3,05,310 on paper and stays cheaper after realistic mess costs are added to its side. MDI’s premium buys a fully residential, itemised private-school bill — and a placement report it publishes in full, which Kozhikode does not.
The calendar trap: MDI’s form closes before CAT sits
MDI’s 2027-29 window is live now — one unified form covering PGDM, PGDM-HRM, PGDM-IB, PGDM-Business Analytics and PGDM-BFS, open 24 September to 28 November 2026, 5 PM IST. CAT 2026 sits on 29 November. The form therefore closes a day before the exam it requires exists — candidates cannot wait to see how CAT feels before deciding on MDI. Application fees print at Rs 3,000, Rs 3,590 with MDI Murshidabad, and Rs 8,496 for NRI and international applicants; the single exception to the CAT rule is a test-centre GMAT taken 1 January-28 November 2026, valid only for exclusive PGDM-IB applicants.
Kozhikode’s process hasn’t started. It runs after CAT in three published stages: Stage-1 registration on the institute portal, Stage-2 shortlisting, Stage-3 WAT-PI across six cities. There is nothing to file today — but there is something to check today, and it is the floor below.
The 60/60/60 floor — read it before the percentile
Kozhikode’s Stage-1 gate is two-part: General 85 overall with 75 sectionals in CAT and 60% in each of Class X, Class XII and graduation, separately. A 99-percentile candidate with 59% in Class XII cannot register — the most-missed bar in this comparison. OBC-NCL/EWS candidates gate at 75 overall with 65 sectionals under the same 60/60 academics. MDI prints no hard academic floor: it scores Class X, XII and graduation at 5% each inside Stage-I (CAT/GMAT 65%, work experience 10%, diversity blocks 10%) and again graduation at 5% inside Stage-II (CAT 35 + GD 10 + WAT 5 + behavioural 5 + PI 20 + work-ex 10 + four 2.5% diversity and sports blocks). Kozhikode’s final, once through, weights the interview heaviest: CAT 35 + PI 35 + WAT 20 + resume 10.
The quota question, answered from print
Neither institute prints any management, institutional or discretionary route. MDI’s page carries the flat sentence — “IIMs have no role either in the selection process or in conducting the programme” — beside its AICTE tuition-fee-waiver note (up to 5% over approved intake). Kozhikode admits through CAT and its three published stages under Government of India reservation law. An agent quoting a priced seat at either is selling fraud with a letterhead.
The placement evidence, stated honestly
MDI publishes a full final placement report — the 2024-26 PDF prints 586 students and a PGDM average of Rs 29.5 lakh against a median of Rs 29.0 lakh, re-read in full earlier this season. Kozhikode publishes no consolidated public salary table; we state that evidence gap rather than borrow aggregator averages. Run any figure anyone quotes you through the five checks in our placement-report guide.
Who should pick which
- Pick MDI if you want the private door with the published placement record, can file before 28 November (remember: before CAT), and prefer a GD-plus-behavioural process that scores work experience twice.
- Pick Kozhikode if you clear 60/60/60 comfortably, want the IIM degree at a signed Rs 23.5 lakh, and would rather be ranked on a WAT and a heavily weighted interview than a group discussion.
- Either way — these are not competing windows. File MDI’s form now if it is on your list at all, sit CAT on 29 November, then register for Kozhikode’s Stage-1 when the portal opens. The only losing move is missing MDI’s form while waiting for an exam it closes ahead of.

- Which is cheaper, MDI Gurgaon or IIM Kozhikode?
- IIM Kozhikode, by Rs 3,05,310 on the printed totals re-read 7 October 2026 — MDI's PGDM grand total is Rs 26,55,310 against Kozhikode's signed Rs 23,50,000. Read the scopes: MDI's figure is fully residential (boarding and lodging inside); Kozhikode's total carries the hostel fee head but not mess, which runs on a refundable Rs 40,000-a-term deposit settled on actual consumption. Even after adding realistic mess costs, Kozhikode remains the cheaper bill.
- Can I still apply to MDI or IIM Kozhikode for the 2027 batch?
- MDI — yes, today: its 2027-29 window is live and closes 28 November 2026 at 5 PM IST, one day BEFORE CAT 2026 sits on 29 November, so the form cannot wait for your CAT attempt. Kozhikode — not yet: its process begins after CAT with Stage-1 registration on the institute portal, gated by the published 85/75 table and the 60/60/60 academic floor. The practical order: file MDI now, sit CAT, then register for Kozhikode's stages.
- What is the 60/60/60 floor at IIM Kozhikode?
- The most-missed bar in this comparison. Kozhikode's Stage-1 registration requires 60% in EACH of Class X, Class XII and graduation — separately, not on average — alongside General 85 overall with 75 sectionals in CAT. A 99-percentile candidate with 59% in Class XII cannot register. MDI prints no such hard floor; it scores Class X, XII and graduation at 5% apiece inside Stage-I shortlisting instead.
- How do the two selection formulas differ?
- MDI prints two stages: Stage-I shortlists on CAT/GMAT 65% plus academics, diversity and work experience; Stage-II ranks on CAT/GMAT 35 + GD 10 + WAT 5 + behavioural 5 + PI 20 + graduation 5 + three diversity and sports blocks of 2.5 each + work experience 10. Kozhikode prints three: an eligibility gate, a shortlist index (CAT 50, Class X 15, Class XII 20, diversity, work-ex 5), and a final of CAT 35 + PI 35 + WAT 20 + resume 10. MDI's process adds a GD and behavioural assessment; Kozhikode's final weights the interview most heavily.
- Is there a management quota at MDI or IIM Kozhikode?
- Neither prints one. MDI's own page carries the blunt line 'IIMs have no role either in the selection process or in conducting the programme' beside its AICTE tuition-fee-waiver note, and admission runs through its own published stages alone. IIM Kozhikode admits through CAT and its three published stages under Government of India reservation law. Anyone quoting a priced seat at either is describing fraud.
- Which should I prefer — MDI Gurgaon or IIM Kozhikode?
- On documents: MDI if you want a private door with a full public placement report (the 2024-26 PDF prints a PGDM average of Rs 29.5 lakh), a corporate-recruiter network built over decades, and you can file before 28 November. Kozhikode if you clear the 60/60/60 floor, want the IIM degree at a signed Rs 23.5 lakh, and prefer a WAT-PI over a GD process. Eligible candidates can hold both: MDI's form now, Kozhikode's stages after CAT.
