No. IIM Visakhapatnam is an Institute of National Importance and its published admission process is entirely mechanical: CAT minimums, a six-component Phase-2 score, a Personal Interview, and a final aggregate in which offers are 'made strictly on the basis of rank within each category', per the official admission-process page opened on 7 September 2026. What should an applicant plan for?
A bar that is honest about being a floor. The Phase-1 CAT minimums — General 70/70/70 with 82 overall, EWS and NC-OBC 72, SC 50, ST and PwD 40 — come with the institute’s own printed caution that these are shortlist cut-offs, and that the cut-offs for an actual offer ‘could be much higher’. The Phase-2 shortlist then weighs CAT at just 50 of 100, with Class 10, Class 12 and the bachelor’s degree at 10 each, gender diversity at 10, and work experience or a professional course at 10 — with board percentages adjusted against each board’s 90th-percentile score, another piece of fair arithmetic for strict-board students.
The deciding room is Phase 3: PI 48, CAT 25, work experience 10, and small academic slices. Two practical consequences follow. A 99-percentile candidate who treats the interview as a formality can lose to an 85-percentile candidate who prepares — and a candidate with two to three years of real work experience (the published formula peaks at 24-36 months and tapers after 48) carries a measurable edge. This is one of the few IIMs where ‘how good is my profile in the room’ matters more than ‘how high is my percentile’.
