Alliance University vs GITAM Bengaluru MBA in 2026: The Accessible-Tier Comparison

Alliance and GITAM Bengaluru occupy the same shelf in Bangalore’s MBA market: universities you can enter through their own published tests, without a CAT percentile. Agents like this shelf too, because “accessible” is easy to twist into “purchasable”. This page compares the two on their own published facts: exams, selection, fees, and what each states, or stays silent on, about quotas.

Why do Alliance and GITAM sit in the same tier?

Because both fill every MBA seat through a published merit process that does not require a national exam. Alliance accepts any national management aptitude test or its own AMAT, the Alliance Management Aptitude Test (Alliance MBA admission process page). GITAM runs GBAT, mandatory only for candidates without a valid score in CAT, MAT, NMAT, CMAT, SNAP or AP/TS ICET (GITAM MBA programme page). Neither publishes a minimum admission cutoff for the national exams; the published score bars at both are scholarship tiers, not entry gates.

The institutional shapes differ. Alliance is a state private university, established by Karnataka Act No. 34 of 2010 and recognized by the UGC, awarding its MBA through Alliance School of Business (Alliance about page and fee PDF). GITAM is a deemed to be university whose Bengaluru campus holds an AICTE Extension of Approval listing an MBA intake of 120 for 2022-23, the latest such document on the university domain. Both award a university MBA degree, not a PGDM.

Which exams do they accept, and do you need CAT for either?

You need CAT for neither; each university’s own test is a complete route in. Alliance names CAT, XAT, GMAT and NMAT in its scholarship criteria and references MAT, KMAT and CMAT on the same admission page, while accepting any one national-level management aptitude test or AMAT for admission itself. GITAM’s published list is GBAT, CAT, MAT, NMAT, CMAT, SNAP and AP/TS ICET; a valid score in any of the national or state exams exempts you from GBAT.

Eligibility is where the tier splits. Alliance asks for a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 50% aggregate, 45% for SC/ST candidates (Alliance MBA admission process page). GITAM asks for 60% (GITAM MBA programme page). That single line decides the question for many candidates: with a graduation aggregate between 50% and 60%, Alliance is open to you and GITAM is not.

How do the selection processes compare?

Alliance runs a longer, denser day; GITAM runs a shorter funnel. Both end in a human evaluation, not just a score.

Alliance’s published selection has five evaluated components: academic performance, entrance-test scores, an oral extempore of up to three minutes on a topic given on the spot, an essay-writing assessment, and a personal interview as the final step (Alliance MBA admission process page). GITAM’s published process has three stages: apply and sit GBAT unless an accepted score exempts you, an extempore round for shortlisted candidates, then a counselling session where you select course and campus (GITAM MBA programme page). What do the two MBAs cost on published figures?

Alliance publishes one clean number, Rs 15,00,000 total (official July 2026 fee PDF); GITAM Bengaluru publishes two that disagree, Rs 4,47,900 for year one on its fee-structure page against Rs 3,87,000 on its programme page.

Alliance’s official fee-structure PDF for the MBA July 2026-28 batch states a total amount payable of Rs 15,00,000 for Indian nationals, marked “subject to change”: Rs 50,000 at registration, then installments of Rs 4,50,000 on the provisional offer, Rs 5,00,000 by 15 October 2026 and Rs 5,00,000 by 15 April 2027. The application fee is Rs 1,000 (Alliance MBA admission process page), and payment runs only through the university’s own portal.

GITAM’s fee-structure page, titled GITAM Fee Structure 2026 and filtered to Bengaluru, lists first-year MBA semester fees of Rs 2,26,900 and Rs 2,21,000, a first-year total of Rs 4,47,900, with no second-year figure in our records. The MBA programme page’s FAQ for the 2026 intake states Rs 3,87,000 for year one and Rs 4,06,300 for year two, which sums to Rs 7,93,300 across both years. Even on GITAM’s higher first-year figure, the two-year gap to Alliance’s Rs 15,00,000 total, detailed on our Alliance fees page, is several lakh.

Scholarships change the arithmetic at both. Alliance offers up to a 50% tuition waiver, at CAT/XAT 90 percentile plus, GMAT 650 plus or NMAT 240 plus, with tiers down to 10% and a prerequisite of 60% cumulative marks across Class X, XII and graduation (Alliance MBA admission process page). GITAM’s table runs from 15% to a 100% slab, the top slab at a GBAT aggregate of 85-100 or a CAT/XAT/GMAT percentile of 90-100. The AY 2026-27 policy caps scholarship admissions at 30% of sanctioned intake for MBA, first-come-first-served, with the 100%, 75% and 60% slabs exempt, and renewal into year two requires a CGPA of 8.0 or higher (GITAM programme page and scholarships policy).

If your graduation aggregate is under 60%, GITAM’s published bar excludes you and the comparison is over. If budget dominates, GITAM’s published figures are far lower even before scholarships. If you want a route with no national exam of any kind and can carry the higher fee, Alliance’s AMAT day is a single, self-contained process with a same-day answer.

Does either university have a management quota?

No published quota exists at either, and the two universities say it differently.

Alliance says it outright. Its admission page states that admission to any programme is strictly based on merit, that the university communicates directly with all shortlisted candidates, and that under no circumstances will it appoint an intermediary, individual or organization, to approach candidates with promises of a certain seat for a fee. That is the university naming the agent pitch and disowning it in advance.

GITAM says nothing at all. Its FAQs, admissions and scholarship pages contain no mention of a quota, donation or capitation route, so the honest answer is “not published”. We do not infer a quota from silence; check any agent claim against the official GITAM FAQs directly. The practical rule is identical at both: the only routes described are their own merit processes at published fees, and any payment beyond a sanctioned fee is capitation, a criminal offence under Karnataka’s 1984 Act.
