The Class 11 BBA Prep Timeline: Month by Month to IPMAT, NPAT and SET

A BBA exam plan that starts in Class 12 is a plan built on luck. The three exams that matter most, IPMAT, NPAT and SET, publish short windows, run on different attempt rules, and land in the same months as board preparation. This page turns that calendar into a month-by-month plan from the start of Class 11, using only verified windows from the most recent cycle. Where a 2027 date does not exist yet, we say so and name the official page where it will appear.

Why does BBA prep start in Class 11?

Because the decisive windows open before most families start looking. IIM Indore’s 2026 IPMAT application window ran 2 February to 14 March 2026, roughly six weeks, per its official admission procedure. That window falls in the middle of Class 12 board preparation. A student who first hears the acronym in January of Class 12 must learn the exam, prepare for it and register for it in the same weeks as board revision. A student who started in Class 11 spends those weeks booking a slot.

The second reason is the shape of the exams. None of the three tests a school syllabus. They test quantitative ability, reasoning and language, which are skills that compound slowly and cram badly. Two relaxed years beat eight panicked months, and the two-year version costs less per week.

What should Class 11 look like, month by month?

Foundations first, exams later, and no mock tests before the base exists. The Indian academic year makes the phases natural:

• April to July of Class 11: decide, honestly, whether the BBA route is the plan. Read what each exam opens: the IPMAT guide for the five-year IIM route, the NPAT guide for NMIMS, the SET guide for Symbiosis. No preparation yet, just a decision.
• August to November: build the quantitative base. Most IPMAT-level arithmetic sits on Class 8 to 10 maths done fast and accurately. Thirty focused minutes a day beats a weekend binge. Start reading non-fiction regularly; verbal sections reward readers, not memorisers.
• December to March: add structure. One sectional practice set a week, a running error log, and a first look at real past papers to see the distance. The gap will look large. In Class 11, that is normal and useful.

Nothing in this year depends on a notification, which is the point. This is the work no window can rush.

How should the summer between Class 11 and 12 be used?

As the pivot from learning to testing, and for the one strategic decision of the whole timeline. This is when full-length timed mocks start, because the base now exists to make their feedback meaningful.

The decision is the shortlist. Pick one reach and one match, prepared properly, rather than five half-prepared registrations. The structure of each exam should drive the choice. IPMAT is the single-morning exam: IIM Indore’s 2026-31 procedure weighted selection 65 percent aptitude test and 35 percent interview, with sectional minimums, and offers no retake. SET ran as 60 questions in one hour with no negative marking and two attempts, the better score counting (2026 cycle, set-test.org). NPAT gave one main attempt plus two retakes, best of three, and accepted SAT and ACT scores as alternatives (npat.nmims.edu). A reach with no cushion should never be the only application. What does the first half of Class 12 look like?

June to December is the balancing act: boards and exam prep sharing the week, with boards holding priority. A workable split is steady, small exam practice, three or four sessions a week, wrapped around school work, with full mocks monthly rather than weekly. Strong boards are not a detour from this plan. IIM Indore’s 2026-31 procedure set no minimum Class 12 percentage, but JIPMAT, the NTA exam for the IPM programmes at IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya, required 60 percent in Class 10 and 12 (55 percent for SC/ST/PwD) per iimj.ac.in, and the no-exam backup routes run on board marks alone.

December has one administrative job: a checklist of the official pages, iimidr.ac.in, iimrohtak.ac.in, npat.nmims.edu, set-test.org, checked weekly from January. Notifications, not coaching calendars, are the trigger for everything that follows.

When do registrations and exams actually fall?

Early in the calendar year, on short notice, and the 2027 dates do not exist yet. As of 13 July 2026, none of the three exams had published a 2027 calendar, so the honest reference is the most recent verified cycle: IIM Indore’s application window ran 2 February to 14 March 2026 per its official admission procedure. SET and NPAT publish their own calendars on set-test.org and npat.nmims.edu; confirm the current windows there rather than trusting any third-party date, including one on this page from a past cycle.

Two timing rules follow. First, register early in whatever window opens, because a six-week window punishes families who hear about it from a friend in week five. Second, sit the first attempt early wherever attempts exist. SET’s better-of-two and NPAT’s best-of-three only help if the first sitting lands early enough to leave room for another. A first attempt in the final slot converts a forgiving exam into a single-morning one.

The season does not end with the exams. Admission rounds close through early summer: UPES’s board-merit pathway closed to 2026 scores on 31 May 2026 (upes.ac.in), and FLAME’s Cycle V closed on 21 June 2026 (flame.edu.in). Which attempt counts where?

Each institution publishes its own counting rule, and mixing them up is the most expensive clerical error in this field. SET counted the better of two attempts (2026 cycle, set-test.org). NPAT counted the best of three (npat.nmims.edu). IPMAT is one sitting. And the rule never transfers across exams or schools: NMAT, the NMIMS MBA exam, allows up to three attempts, yet NMIMS accepts only the first attempt’s score, stating in its official admission handout that it “only accepts the score of the first NMAT examination attempted by the candidate”, while KJ Somaiya counts the best of two per its published criteria. That is a postgraduate example, but the lesson lands now: read the college’s acceptance policy, not just the exam brochure.

What if the timeline has already slipped?

Then adjust the plan, not the ethics, because no payment recovers a missed exam. NMIMS publishes a standing notice that it has no management quota for any program and that such offers should be treated as fraudulent (nmims.edu/result). Symbiosis states it has appointed no agents and permanently debars aspirants who approach through one (snaptest.org). Anyone selling a route around IPMAT is describing a seat that does not exist at any IIM. Promises of a certain seat are the signature of fraud, not of influence.

The honest fallback is better than the fake one. Several credible universities admit on Class 12 marks or through their own late-cycle tests, and a strong three-year BBA followed by CAT reaches the same IIM classroom the five-year route does.
