IPMAT 2027: The Honest Guide to the Five-Year IIM Route
What IPMAT is, who is eligible, how IIM Indore selects for IPM, and why no agent can route around it. Sourced from official IIM pages only.
The short answer
As of July 2026, IPMAT remains the entrance test for the five-year Integrated Programme in Management at IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak, each conducting its own exam. IIM Indore's 2026 procedure set no minimum Class 12 marks and weighted selection 65 percent aptitude test, 35 percent interview. There is no quota, donation or agent route into any IIM; the exam is the only door.
Search for IPMAT and you will find safe-score tables, eligibility rules copied from stale cycles, and coaching ads dressed as guides. This page keeps to what the IIMs publish themselves. Where an official figure or date for 2027 does not exist yet, we say so and link the page where it will appear, instead of guessing.
What is IPMAT, and what does clearing it get you?
IPMAT is the entrance test for the five-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM), the route that puts a student into an IIM classroom straight after Class 12. It is the closest thing to a BBA inside an IIM. Two IIMs run an exam by this name: IIM Indore, which pioneered the programme, and IIM Rohtak. They are separate exams with separate applications, each conducted by the IIM itself on its own portal.
Keep three neighbouring routes distinct, because agent pages and even some rankings blur them. JIPMAT is a different exam, conducted by NTA, feeding the IPM programmes at IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya. IIM Bangalore’s BBA (Digital Business and Entrepreneurship) is a separate programme with its own admission process at dbe.iimb.ac.in. And IIM Visakhapatnam offers no undergraduate programme at all; its official programme list runs from doctoral work to executive MBA. A “top BBA colleges” list that names it is wrong at the source.
For programme structure, degree titles and exit rules, read the programme pages on iimidr.ac.in and iimrohtak.ac.in directly. Those details sit outside what we have verified, so we will not paraphrase them here.
Who can sit IPMAT?
Fresh Class 12 candidates and recent passers, with an age line but no marks bar at IIM Indore. The IPM 2026-31 admission procedure, published on iimidr.ac.in, required a Class 12 pass in 2024 or 2025 or appearing in 2026, and birth on or after 1 August 2006, with five years’ relaxation for SC, ST and PwD candidates. It set no minimum Class 12 percentage. A drop year does not disqualify you.
Two cautions follow from that. First, the birth-date line moves with each cycle, so a blog quoting “born on or after 1 August 2004” is reading you a dead rule; check the current procedure before you decide anything. Second, IIM Rohtak publishes its own eligibility for its own exam, and we have not verified those details this cycle, so confirm the current criteria on iimrohtak.ac.in rather than assuming the Indore rules carry over.
The no-minimum-marks point cuts both ways. It keeps the door open for a student with an ordinary board result. It also means the test is the entire filter, which is exactly why the exam is hard.
How does IIM Indore actually select?
Through a two-stage published process, weighted 65 percent aptitude test and 35 percent personal interview, per the IPM 2026-31 admission procedure. To be shortlisted for the interview at all, a candidate needs a positive raw score overall and a minimum mark in each of the exam’s three sections. A brilliant quantitative score cannot rescue a blank verbal section. Balanced preparation is not advice here; it is arithmetic.
One thing IIM Indore does not publish: a marks-versus-percentile table, or any “safe score” band. Every such table on a coaching site is an estimate, and some are visibly broken. Treat them as marketing, prepare against the sectional structure instead, and let the official shortlist be the only scoreboard that matters.
When should you start, and what are the IPMAT 2027 dates?
Start in Class 11 if you can, and do not wait for the 2027 notification to begin. As of 13 July 2026, neither IIM has published 2027 dates. For planning, the most recent verified reference is IIM Indore’s 2026 cycle, whose application window ran 2 February to 14 March 2026 per the official admission procedure. A window of roughly six weeks, early in the calendar year, rewards families who are ready before the notification and punishes those who hear about it from a friend in March.
Our Class 11 prep timeline lays out the two-year runway month by month, and our IPMAT vs NPAT vs SET comparison explains which exams to run alongside it. The one-line version: IPMAT is the one exam in the BBA season with no retake cushion, so it should never be your only application.
Is there a direct, quota or donation route into an IIM’s IPM?
No. There is no management quota at any IIM, for any programme, and there is no fee that buys a seat. Admission runs through the published process and nothing else. This is worth stating plainly because the question is asked constantly, and because every IPMAT season produces agents claiming waitlist contacts or internal quotas at the IIMs.
The two-layer picture we apply across this site applies here in its simplest form. What exists: one competitive exam, one published shortlisting rule, one interview, run by the IIM itself. What agents claim: promises of a certain seat, waitlist insertion for a fee, a “special category” that appears nowhere in the admission procedure. The second layer is not a shortcut around the first. It is a description of fraud, and paying into it makes you a participant, not a customer. Capitation, meaning any payment beyond published fees in any form, is illegal, a position the Supreme Court has held for decades; the full picture is in our guide to whether management quota is legal. At the IIMs the question does not even arise, because there is no quota layer to abuse.
What else can an IPMAT score do?
A handful of non-IIM institutions accept IPMAT scores for their own management programmes, so the preparation is not a single-ticket bet. Nirma, NALSAR, TAPMI, NICMAR and IFMR-Krea have accepted IPMAT scores in recent cycles. Each runs its own application round with its own deadline, typically closing by early summer, and each publishes its own list of accepted exams for the current year on its own site. Treat any circulating “IPMAT-score colleges” list as a starting point for checking official pages, not as a fact sheet.
What if IPMAT does not work out?
Then you take the other road to the same classroom, and it is a genuinely good road. A three-year BBA at a strong college, followed by CAT in the final year, puts every IIM’s two-year MBA within reach, and you arrive competing on a graduate record instead of a Class 12 morning. Our IPM vs BBA plus MBA comparison weighs the two paths honestly, and our direct BBA admission guide carries the verified list of no-exam and own-test colleges to build that road on. If you are reading this after a result rather than before an attempt, the post-IPMAT options guide is the status board for what is still open this cycle.
The mistake to avoid is the panic purchase: an expensive seat at a weak college in July, bought because a result in June went badly. The BBA season has more open doors than the IPMAT calendar suggests, and choosing one calmly costs nothing but a week of checking official pages.

- Is IPMAT conducted by NTA?
- No. IIM Indore conducts its own IPMAT through its own portal, and IIM Rohtak runs its own separate exam. NTA conducts JIPMAT, a different test that feeds the IPM programmes at IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya. Different exams, different colleges, different application portals.
- What Class 12 percentage do I need for IIM Indore's IPM?
- IIM Indore's IPM 2026-31 admission procedure set no minimum Class 12 percentage. It required a Class 12 pass in 2024, 2025 or appearing in 2026, and birth on or after 1 August 2006, with five years' relaxation for SC, ST and PwD candidates. By contrast, JIPMAT for IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya requires 60 percent in Class 10 and 12 (55 percent for SC/ST/PwD), per iimj.ac.in.
- Can I get into an IIM's IPM through management quota or donation?
- No. No IIM has a management quota for any programme, and no agent has seats to sell. Selection at IIM Indore runs only through the published process: the aptitude test, sectional minimums and the interview. Promises of a certain seat at an IIM describe a fraud, not a route.
- Which IIMs offer the five-year IPM?
- IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak admit through their own IPMAT exams. IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya admit through NTA's JIPMAT. IIM Bangalore runs a separate BBA (Digital Business and Entrepreneurship) with its own admission process at dbe.iimb.ac.in. IIM Visakhapatnam offers no undergraduate programme at all, whatever ranking lists claim.
- When is IPMAT 2027?
- As of 13 July 2026, neither IIM has published 2027 dates. For reference, IIM Indore's 2026 application window ran 2 February to 14 March 2026 per its official admission procedure. Track iimidr.ac.in and iimrohtak.ac.in directly; dates on coaching sites are often copied from stale cycles.
- What happens if I do not clear IPMAT?
- You lose one door to an IIM, not the IIM itself. A three-year BBA at a strong college followed by CAT in your final year reaches the same IIM classroom, and you compete there with a graduate profile rather than a Class 12 one. Several universities also accept IPMAT scores for their own management programmes, each through its own published round.
