SET 2027: How the Symbiosis BBA Route Actually Works
SET is the only gate into Symbiosis BBA. Attempts, fees, the 2027 timeline and why agents promising a paid seat get you permanently debarred.
The short answer
As of July 2026, SET remains the only route into Symbiosis BBA programmes, including SCMS Pune, Symbiosis Bengaluru and Symbiosis Noida. In the 2026 cycle it ran as a 60-question, one-hour online test with no negative marking and two attempts, the better score counting. Registration cost Rs 2,250 per test plus Rs 1,000 per programme (set-test.org). SET 2027 dates were not yet published; confirm on set-test.org.
Every Symbiosis BBA seat sits behind one exam. Not a percentile war, not a paid arrangement, one published test called SET. This page lays out how SET worked in the 2026 cycle, what is known and not yet known about SET 2027, what the route costs end to end, and why the paid shortcut agents sell around it is the one move that can lock you out of Symbiosis permanently.
What is SET, and which programmes does it open?
SET, the Symbiosis Entrance Test, is the university’s own online exam and the only gate into Symbiosis BBA programmes, including SCMS Pune (BBA Hons) and the BBA campuses at Bengaluru and Noida. Symbiosis International is a deemed university, so it fills every seat through its own published merit process rather than any state counselling system. There is no second door. Registration, slot booking and results all run through set-test.org, and after the test each institute runs its own selection round per its published criteria.
How is SET structured, and how many attempts do you get?
In the 2026 cycle, SET ran as a 60-question, one-hour online test with no negative marking, offered across 68 test cities, with two attempts per season and the better score counting (set-test.org). That is a deliberately forgiving design. No negative marking means you attempt everything. Two attempts with the better one counting means one bad morning does not end your season.
One precision matters here, because it trips up families every year. An exam’s attempt policy and a university’s acceptance policy are two different things. SET is Symbiosis’s own exam, so the better-of-two rule is the university’s own published policy. Elsewhere the two can split: NMAT, the NMIMS MBA exam, allows up to three attempts, yet NMIMS itself accepts only the first attempt’s score, per its official admission handout, while KJ Somaiya counts the best of two. NPAT, the NMIMS BBA exam, counts the best of three (npat.nmims.edu). Never assume the exam brochure’s attempt count is the college’s counting rule. For SET they align, and that is worth confirming again on set-test.org when the 2027 rules are published.
What does SET cost, and what does the BBA cost after it?
Registration in the 2026 cycle cost Rs 2,250 per test plus Rs 1,000 per programme applied to (set-test.org). The per-programme fee is the underrated line item: applying to three campuses adds Rs 3,000 on top of the test fee, so your shortlist should be a decision, not a reflex.
The programme fee behind the exam is published too. SCMS Pune BBA (Hons) is Rs 4,10,000 per year plus a Rs 20,000 refundable deposit (AY 2026-27, official scmspune.ac.in fee page). We could not verify current published figures for the Bengaluru and Noida campuses on their official pages when we checked this page, so confirm those fees on each campus’s own site before you apply. One principle holds across the university: the published fee is the whole fee. There is no separate price for a different route in, because there is no different route in.
When is SET 2027, and what should you do now?
The SET 2027 calendar had not been published when we verified this page on 13 July 2026, so treat set-test.org as the only source of dates and do not plan around numbers from coaching sites or aggregators. What you can do now costs nothing: settle your campus shortlist, watch the official site for the registration notification, and start light preparation against the 2026 pattern of 60 questions in one hour. If the 2027 cycle keeps the two-attempt format, the useful move is booking the first attempt early in the window, so a weak first score still leaves a calm, prepared second sitting. We track the notification in our update cycle and will revise this page when the official dates land.
Can you get into Symbiosis BBA without SET?
No, and attempting to buy your way around it carries a penalty most agents never mention. Symbiosis publishes a caution notice on siu.edu.in and snaptest.org stating that admissions to all its programmes are strictly on merit, that no donation or capitation is payable for any admission, that the university has appointed no agents, and that aspirants who approach through agents are permanently debarred from admission to all its programmes. Permanently, and across every Symbiosis institute.
The law backs the notice. Under the UGC (Institutions Deemed to be Universities) Regulations, 2023, a deemed university must admit on merit through its published process and may not take any donation or capitation (PIB release, June 2023). In Maharashtra, where SCMS Pune sits, collecting capitation is a criminal offence under the 1987 Act, punishable with one to three years’ imprisonment plus refund of the amount collected. So when someone offers a Symbiosis BBA seat for a price, promising a certain outcome without the exam, they are describing a seat that does not exist in the university’s legal structure. The realistic outcomes are losing the money, or losing the money and every future chance at Symbiosis. The full breakdown is in our Symbiosis direct admission explainer.
How does SET compare with NPAT and IPMAT?
SET is the middle path of the three big BBA exams: more forgiving than IPMAT, structured differently from NPAT. NPAT, the NMIMS gate, allows one main attempt plus two retakes with the best of three counting, and accepts SAT and ACT scores as alternatives (npat.nmims.edu); our NPAT guide covers it in full. IPMAT, the gate to the IIMs’ five-year integrated programme, is a genuinely competitive national exam with none of these retake cushions. If you are deciding where to spend your preparation months, the side-by-side is in IPMAT vs NPAT vs SET. And if your Class 12 marks are strong enough that you would rather skip entrance tests entirely, several credible universities admit on board marks alone; that verified list is in our direct BBA admission guide.
How should you plan your two SET attempts?
Take the first attempt early and treat the second as insurance, not as the plan. Because the better score counts, an early first sitting converts the second attempt into a free option: if the first score is good, you are done; if not, you know exactly what to fix. Booking only the late attempt throws that option away and stakes the season on one hour. Two more practical rules from the fee structure: register only for programmes you would actually join, since each costs Rs 1,000 (2026 cycle, set-test.org), and put the real deadline in your calendar the day the 2027 notification appears, because a strong score is worthless once a selection round has closed.
How does Udaan help with the SET route?
We help you decide whether SET belongs in your exam plan at all, then run the mechanics: campus shortlist against your budget, registration and programme choices without errors, attempt scheduling so the better-score rule works for you, and preparation against the published pattern. We take no commissions and have no partner colleges. Every rupee you pay goes to Symbiosis or the test body directly, against a receipt. And if your profile makes another route the smarter bet, or no route makes honest sense this year, we will tell you exactly that.

- How many SET attempts are allowed, and which one counts?
- Two attempts per season, with the better score counting (2026 cycle, set-test.org). Because SET is Symbiosis's own exam, that better-score rule is the university's own policy, not an assumption. Confirm the 2027 rules on set-test.org when registration opens, since exam policies are re-published each cycle.
- Is there negative marking in SET?
- No. In the 2026 cycle SET ran as 60 questions in one hour, online, with no negative marking, across 68 test cities (set-test.org). Attempt every question. Confirm the 2027 pattern on set-test.org before you sit the test.
- What does SET registration cost?
- Rs 2,250 per test plus Rs 1,000 per programme applied to, in the 2026 cycle (set-test.org). The per-programme fee means your campus shortlist is a real budgeting decision. Confirm the 2027 fee on set-test.org when registration opens.
- Can a consultant get me a Symbiosis BBA seat without SET?
- No. Symbiosis states on siu.edu.in and snaptest.org that admissions are strictly on merit, that no donation or capitation is payable, that it has appointed no agents, and that aspirants who approach through agents are permanently debarred from all its programmes. The offer itself is the warning sign.
- What does a Symbiosis BBA cost after SET?
- SCMS Pune BBA (Hons) is Rs 4,10,000 per year plus a Rs 20,000 refundable deposit (AY 2026-27, official scmspune.ac.in fee page). We could not verify current published fees for the Bengaluru and Noida campuses, so confirm those on each campus's official page before applying.
- Is SET's attempt policy the same as NPAT's or NMAT's?
- No, and this is where families slip. SET gives two attempts with the better counting (set-test.org). NPAT, the NMIMS BBA exam, allows one main attempt plus two retakes with the best of three counting (npat.nmims.edu). NMAT, the MBA exam, allows up to three attempts, but NMIMS accepts only the first attempt's score, per its official admission handout. Always check who counts what.
