IPE vs IMT Hyderabad PGDM: The Two Printed Bills Compared

IPE vs IMT Hyderabad from their own pages: Rs 9,15,000 ex-hostel for 2026-28 against INR 16 lakhs residential for 2027-29, a six-exam menu against CAT/XAT/GMAT, and different placement disclosures. Verified 25 September 2026.

The short answer

As of 25 September 2026, the two printed Hyderabad bills differ by structure: IPE prints Rs 9,15,000 for 2026-28 excluding hostel, while IMT Hyderabad prints INR 16 lakhs for batch 2027-29 including accommodation and mess. IPE accepts any one of six exams; IMT takes CAT 2026, XAT 2027 or GMAT. Neither publishes any management-quota route.

Hyderabad’s two most-searched mid-market PGDM doors publish very different bills on very different cycles — and the difference is not just the number. This page compares only what each institute prints on its own pages, all opened 25 September 2026.

The bills, side by side

Printed itemIPE (2026-28)IMT Hyderabad (2027-29)
Printed programme feeRs 9,15,000 grand totalINR 16 lakhs
What the fee includesTuition, admission, IT/library/activities; Rs 15,000 refundable deposit inside Year 1Academic fee including accommodation and mess
HostelExtra: Rs 1,50,000 single / Rs 1,20,000 double per year with food (2026-27)Already included
Rough two-year all-inAbout Rs 11.55-12.15 lakh residentialRs 16 lakh residential
Cycle published2026-28, live tableBatch 2027-29, live block

The comparison trap is the includes-line: IPE’s Rs 9.15 lakh looks less than half of IMT’s Rs 16 lakh until you add IPE’s hostel for two years. Even then IPE stays roughly Rs 4 lakh cheaper — but the honest sentence is “about Rs 11.5-12 lakh against Rs 16 lakh”, not “9 against 16”.

The doors: six exams against three

IPE accepts any one of CAT, XAT, MAT, ATMA, CMAT or GMAT — the widest menu among the city’s established PGDM schools. IMT Hyderabad takes CAT 2026, XAT 2027 or GMAT (official scores to reach the campus by 31 March 2027), on a minimum 50% bachelor’s bar with final-year students allowed to apply. Both print a 50% general bar; IPE prints 45% for SC/ST/PC.

The practical consequence for a low-score applicant: a December MAT or a late ATMA keeps IPE alive when CAT has gone badly, while IMT Hyderabad’s door effectively needs CAT or XAT. That asymmetry should drive your shortlist before any fee comparison does.

The calendars

IPE’s site links its Admission Prospectus 2026-28 and runs rolling cycles — the printed process is registration, score submission, interview, email selection. IMT Hyderabad prints a full 2027-29 calendar: application open from September 2026, process starting the first week of February 2027, results the third week of March 2027, classes June 2027. If you are reading this in the 2026-27 admission season, IPE’s cycle is the live one; IMT’s printed dates already govern the next batch.

Scholarships: where each institute spends its concessions

IPE prints the AICTE Tuition Fee Waiver (parental income within Rs 8 lakh; tuition only; up to 5% of intake) plus merit scholarships of Rs 60,000 to Rs 4,00,000 keyed to CAT and XAT/GMAT percentiles, with no cap on numbers. IMT Hyderabad prints a 100% TFW waiver, a 20% scholarship for all female candidates admitted to any PGDM programme, and a 40% merit scholarship at CAT/XAT 90 percentile or above (GMAT Focus 645+, 10th-edition 700+). For a strong-score woman, IMT’s stack can close much of the gap; for an income-qualified applicant, IPE’s TFW line is the cleaner instrument.

Placements: what each actually prints

IPE publishes a frank three-year table — 81.4% placed in 2025, average Rs 7.02 LPA; 91.5% in 2024; 85.9% in 2023 — including the course-wise breakup. IMT Hyderabad’s own placement page carries its salary-package data separately. Neither is audited to the same standard as an IIM report; our placement-report methodology is the lens we apply before quoting either. The one-line honest reading: two mid-market outcomes at two very different price points, and the cheaper door publishes the more checkable table.

How to choose

Choose IPE when the budget line is the binding constraint, your best score is MAT/ATMA/CMAT, or the TFW income line applies to your family. Choose IMT Hyderabad when you hold or expect a CAT/XAT score you can push past the 90th percentile (the 40% scholarship trigger), you want the national IMT brand family, or you specifically want hostel and mess inside one printed fee. Neither institute prints any management-quota route — at either school, a “quota seat” offer contradicts the institute’s own pages, and the Telangana state map explains what the law actually allows instead.

Straight answers

Which is cheaper, IPE or IMT Hyderabad?
IPE, on the printed tables — but the structures differ, so compare all-in. IPE prints Rs 9,15,000 for 2026-28 with hostel separate (Rs 1,20,000-1,50,000 a year with food, so roughly Rs 11.55-12.15 lakh all-in across two years). IMT Hyderabad prints INR 16 lakhs for batch 2027-29 with accommodation and mess already inside the academic fee. Like-for-like, IPE remains about Rs 4 lakh cheaper.
Do the two institutes accept the same exams?
No. IPE accepts any one of CAT, XAT, MAT, ATMA, CMAT or GMAT — six doors. IMT Hyderabad takes CAT (2026), XAT (2027) or GMAT (scores received by 31 March 2027). A MAT or ATMA score works at IPE but not at IMT Hyderabad; that alone can decide the shortlist late in a cycle.
What eligibility bar does each print?
Both print a 50% bar in a bachelor's degree for the general category. IPE prints 45% for SC/ST/PC candidates; IMT Hyderabad prints minimum 50% marks in aggregate with final-year students allowed to apply subject to completing documents.
How do their placements compare?
IPE prints a plain three-year table: 81.4% placed in 2025 at an average Rs 7.02 LPA (2024: 91.5%, 2023: 85.9%). IMT Hyderabad's own placement page carries its course-wise data separately — read both with our placement-report methodology before comparing, because neither figure is audited to the same standard. The honest reading: two mid-market outcomes at two very different price points.
Is there a management quota at either institute?
Neither publishes one. IPE's admission procedure describes one open process (registration, exam score, interview); IMT Hyderabad's page describes the common application, test scores and its scholarship instruments — including a 100% tuition-fee waiver (TFW) and a 20% scholarship for all female candidates. A paid 'quota seat' at either contradicts their own printed pages.
What are IMT Hyderabad's 2027-29 key dates?
From the official admissions page opened 25 September 2026: online common application open from September 2026; the admission process starts the first week of February 2027; results are declared the third week of March 2027; GMAT scores must reach the campus by 31 March 2027; classes begin June 2027.
