MBA With Low Graduation Marks: Every Printed Percentage Bar, Mapped

The entrance-exam panic gets all the attention, but every MBA application runs a quieter filter first: your graduation percentage, fixed years ago, unchangeable today. Agents exploit that finality — “percentage low hai, but we have a way” — so we opened every policy today and mapped the bars in print. The map has three tiers, and it closes with the one answer nobody sells.

The 60% club — where a second-division degree does not open the door

The strictest printed bars sit at the IIT management departments and the older IIMs. IIT Kanpur’s DoMS stacks three conditions before its 80-percentile CAT bar even matters: 65% in each of Class X and XII, 60% in graduation (CPI 6.0/10), and a bachelor’s degree of at least three years with Mathematics as one of the subjects — the FAQ adds that a student without Mathematics in 10+2 is not eligible. VGSoM IIT Kharagpur prints 60% (6.5 CGPA) for General/EWS/OBC and restricts the qualifying degree to a four-year engineering/technology/pharmacy bachelor’s or a master’s in Science/Economics/Commerce with Maths or Statistics at bachelor’s level. DoMS IIT Roorkee prints the same 60% but accepts any discipline. IIM Kozhikode runs the highest published academic floor we have mapped at an IIM: 60% aggregate in graduation plus 60% in each of Class X and XII for General candidates — with one alternate route, 50% aggregate in CA, CMA or CS. IIM Raipur prints 60% for General/EWS/NC-OBC before the merit list opens. MNIT Jaipur prints 60% or 6.5 CGPA. If your degree reads 59%, these are the doors to skip without regret — no application fee buys an exception to a printed eligibility bar.

The 50% mainstream — the biggest doors in the country

Half the market asks for exactly half the marks. BIM Trichy prints 50% in any discipline (final-year students welcome, degree with 50% by June 2027) for its CAT/XAT/GMAT route. NMIMS prints 50% aggregate in the official NMAT 2026 handout. PIMR Indore prints 50%, with 45% for reserved categories, across seven MBA programmes. The state systems sit at the same line — Uttar Pradesh’s UPTAC brochure prints 50%/45%, Maharashtra’s CAP follows the same shape. At 50-59%, your entire fight is the entrance score and the interview room; eligibility is not your problem.

The reserved-category floors

The printed concessions are real but narrower than agents imply. IIM Raipur drops to 50% (SC) and 45% (ST/PwD); MNIT to 55% for SC/ST; IIT Kanpur to 50% for SC/ST/PwD; VGSoM to 55% for SC/ST/PwD. Every institute demands the category certificate in the Government of India format — IIT Roorkee specifies OBC certificates issued after 31 March 2025 — and a wrong-format certificate silently moves you to the General bar.

Two traps that hurt more applications than the bars themselves

The CGPA conversion trap. VGSoM prints its own CGPA-to-percentage formula and says it applies even if your grade sheet prints a different one. IIT Kanpur instructs the opposite: do not convert unless your university provides the formula — enter the CGPA as printed. Guessing a conversion is how a truthful application becomes a rejected one. The provisional-admission trap. Final-year applicants get in everywhere — with proof deadlines attached (VGSoM 31 May/31 October, IIT Roorkee 30 September, BIM June 2027). The bar applies to the final degree: a weak last semester turns the offer letter into a withdrawal.

Below 50% — the honest close-out

No recognised institute in today’s read prints a General-category floor below 50%. That is the line where the official system ends, and where the scam market begins: “percentage doesn’t matter” colleges that fail document verification, unapproved programmes dressed as MBAs, and the paid-seat story our red-flags page maps.
