MICA vs SIMC Pune: India's Two Communication-Management Doors, Priced for 2027

MICA vs SIMC Pune 2027: MICAT-I on 5 December beside CAT/XAT/GMAT against a SNAP-only door printing a 2x discretionary quota — priced from official pages.

The short answer

As of 3 October 2026, MICA Ahmedabad admits through CAT, XAT or GMAT plus its own MICAT — MICAT-I sits 5 December 2026, registration closes 21 November — while SIMC Pune's MBA in Communication Management is SNAP-only. MICA's printed 2025-27 fee is Rs 28 lakh; SIMC prints Rs 3,75,500 per instalment with a discretionary quota at double, about Rs 30 lakh across the batch.

Two institutes own the communications-MBA niche in India, and they could not be built more differently. MICA Ahmedabad asks for a national score (CAT, XAT or GMAT) plus its own MICAT — and MICAT’s 2027 cycle dates went live this week, with MICAT-I on 5 December 2026. SIMC Pune runs its MBA in Communication Management inside the Symbiosis system on SNAP alone — and prints a discretionary-quota line at double the academic fee in its own prospectus. Everything below is from official pages and PDFs opened today, 3 October 2026.

Zero exam overlap: a SNAP score is invisible to MICA and a CAT score is invisible to SIMC. If communications is the goal, register for both tracks in November.

The money, with labels on

MICA: the last printed two-year fee is Rs 28 lakh for the 2025-27 batch; the Academic Year 2027 admissions page, read today, does not print a 2027-29 figure yet — treat Rs 28 lakh as the reference and read the offer letter. Scholarships are real: 25-30 awards a year covering 25-100% of tuition, merit-cum-means.

SIMC: the prospectus prints the open-category academic fee at Rs 3,75,500 per instalment across four — Rs 15,02,000 — with year-one payables of Rs 6,47,600 at admission and Rs 4,35,300 by 25 November 2026, hostel about Rs 1.57 lakh and mess Rs 59,800 a year (roughly Rs 19.4 lakh all-in). Below the table sits the Discretionary Quota Seats paragraph, verbatim: a few seats for students with reasonable academic records and good entrance scores, at double the open-category academic fee — Rs 7,51,000 per instalment, about Rs 30.04 lakh across the batch — approved by the Fee Structure Committee, paid to the institute by online transfer or demand draft, for the entire duration, with the same paragraph stating no donation or capitation fee is charged for admission to any SIU programme.

Read that quota line the way we always read it: it is a printed premium for candidates who already qualify on SNAP — not a back door around the exam, and never something an agent can sell you. The full six-campus map of this rule lives on our Symbiosis discretionary-quota page.

The outcomes

MICA’s official 2026-27 placement brochure (batch 2024-26): 197 placed across 91 recruiters, average Rs 20.12 lakh, median Rs 19.57 lakh, highest Rs 45.67 lakh. SIMC prints MBA-CM outcomes for 2024-26 at a highest of Rs 21 lakh and an average of Rs 9 lakh. MICA’s reported average runs more than double SIMC’s — and its fee runs roughly double SIMC’s open-category all-in bill. That symmetry is the real decision: the niche’s premium brand charges what the niche’s premium outcomes cost.

Who should pick which

  • Pick MICA if strategic marketing, brand management and the agency-advertising world is the target, you can fund (or scholarship into) the Rs 28-lakh bracket, and you want two MICAT attempts with the better one counting.
  • Pick SIMC if media, content and communication management inside the Symbiosis ecosystem fits better, the Rs 19-20 lakh open-category bill matters, and SNAP is already your December plan.
  • Either way the exam registrations are separate and both close in November — MICA on the 21st, SNAP on the 25th. Missing either costs a full year, and no quota line at either institute rescues a candidate who never sat the exam.

Straight answers

Can one exam score reach both MICA and SIMC?
No — that is the decision-forcing fact. MICA needs a CAT, XAT or GMAT score plus its own MICAT; SIMC Pune's MBA (Communication Management) is SNAP-mandatory within the Symbiosis system. A SNAP score does nothing at MICA and a CAT score does nothing at SIMC. Serious communications aspirants register for both tracks separately — the calendars allow it: MICAT-I sits 5 December 2026 and SNAP's three December sessions run 13, 19 and 26 December.
What are the exact MICAT 2027 dates?
From MICA's admissions page opened 3 October 2026: MICAT-I registration closes 21 November 2026 at 11:50 PM, admit card 3 December, exam 5 December 2026, score 18 December. MICAT-II registration closes 30 January 2027, admit card 10 February, exam 12 February 2027, score 28 February. You may sit both; MICA counts the better score. Application is Rs 2,500 per programme plus Rs 500 per additional programme.
Does SIMC Pune have a management quota?
SIMC's own admission prospectus prints a Discretionary Quota Seats paragraph: a few seats, for students with reasonable academic records and good entrance scores, at double the open-category academic fee — Rs 7,51,000 per instalment against Rs 3,75,500, about Rs 30.04 lakh across the batch — approved by the Fee Structure Committee, paid to the institute by online transfer or demand draft, for the entire duration. The same paragraph states no donation or capitation fee is charged for admission to any SIU programme. That is a printed premium route, not an agent's promise — SNAP remains mandatory.
Is there any quota or paid route into MICA?
None is printed anywhere. MICA's route is CAT/XAT/GMAT plus MICAT plus GE-PI on published weightages — CAT/XAT/GMAT 35%, MICAT 25%, Personal Interview 20%, Group Exercise 10%, academics 5%, diversity 5% — and MICA does not publish MICAT cut-offs numerically, so any 'MICA cutoff' an agent quotes is their own invention.
Which is cheaper, MICA or SIMC?
Read the labels before the numbers. MICA's last printed two-year fee is Rs 28 lakh for the 2025-27 batch (no 2027-29 figure on the admissions page as of 3 October 2026). SIMC's open-category bill is Rs 3,75,500 across four instalments — Rs 15,02,000 academic — plus hostel around Rs 1.57 lakh and mess Rs 59,800 a year, roughly Rs 19.4 lakh all-in; its printed discretionary-quota line doubles the academic block to about Rs 30.04 lakh. So SIMC open is the cheaper door, and SIMC's quota line sits above even MICA's standard fee.
Whose placements are stronger?
Different evidence standards, stated honestly. MICA's official 2026-27 placement brochure (batch 2024-26) reports 197 students placed across 91 recruiters at an average of Rs 20.12 lakh, median Rs 19.57 lakh, highest Rs 45.67 lakh. SIMC prints MBA-CM outcomes for 2024-26 at a highest of Rs 21 lakh and average of Rs 9 lakh on its placements page. MICA's reported average is more than double — and its fee is roughly double SIMC's open-category all-in bill, which is exactly the payback calculation to run.
