MICAT and MICA Admission: The Exam, the Weightages, and What 2027 Aspirants Should Do Now

MICA Ahmedabad does not work like other business schools, and its entrance exam does not either. If you are targeting a career in strategic marketing, brand management or communications, the MICAT is the single most important date in your calendar after CAT — and it rewards a kind of preparation the other exams ignore. This page lays out the verified process as MICA publishes it, checked on 20 August 2026 against the institute’s official admissions page.

What MICAT is

MICAT is MICA’s common entrance examination for the programmes of both its schools — the School of Management (PGDM-C, PGDM and the doctoral-level FPM) and the School of Applied Creativity (the one-year PGCM certificates). It is a computer-based test conducted twice a year: MICAT-I in December and MICAT-II in February, and candidates may sit both — the better of the two scores counts.

One rule sits above all others: MICAT is necessary but not sufficient. Admission to the flagship PGDM/PGDM-C runs through three stages — your CAT, XAT or GMAT performance, the MICAT written exam, and a Group Exercise and Personal Interview. You cannot MICAT your way in without one of the national scores.

Inside the exam

For the School of Management programmes, MICAT has three sections:

• Section A — Psychometric Test (qualifying). You must pass it, but it carries no merit weight.
• Section B — Descriptive Test. Written answers, where MICA tests the communication it actually teaches.
• Section C — Aptitude Test. Divergent and convergent thinking, verbal ability, quantitative ability and data interpretation, and general awareness.

Shortlisting has three gates in sequence: qualify the psychometric test, meet the CAT/XAT/GMAT score cutoff, and clear the cutoffs in Section C and Section B. Shortlisted candidates are called for the Group Exercise and Personal Interview in March.

The final merit arithmetic

MICA publishes its weightages, which is rarer and more useful than any cutoff table:

Read that table as a strategy document. The national exam carries the largest single weight, but 40% of the final score is decided in MICAT’s own sections and the GE-PI rooms — which is why MICA’s official sample papers and the demo exam link it releases two days before the test are worth more than any coaching note.

Fees and outcomes, as published

MICA publishes its fee plainly: ₹28 lakh for the 2025-27 batch of the PGDM/PGDM-C, with financial-aid details in the admissions FAQ. Its reported 2025 placements: average ₹19.22 LPA, highest ₹40.91 LPA. The calendar reality for a 2027 aspirant

MICA’s admissions page states the 2026 intake is closed, with final results published on or before 15 April 2026. If you are reading this in September 2026, you are early for the 2027 cycle, not late: on MICA’s published pattern, MICAT-I falls in December 2026, which means your CAT 2026 or XAT 2027 registration, your MICAT preparation, and your MICA application all belong to this quarter. The dates will appear on the official admissions page — that page, not any aggregator, is the schedule.

Checked again on 4 September 2026: MICA’s pages still carry the 2026 cycle, and no 2027-29 MICAT schedule is out. The only live MICAT banner is MICAT III (Online) — registration open, with a banner exam date of “5th March” and no year stated — and MICA says explicitly that MICAT III applies only to FPM, PGP-CCC and PGP-CCE. Do not mistake it for a PGDM door; the PGDM’s next gate remains the December MICAT-I, whose dates are still to be announced.

Who MICA genuinely fits

MICA is a specialist school: strategic marketing, communications, brand and media, with an applied-creativity streak no generalist MBA replicates. If your target roles live in brand management, marketing strategy, media or consumer insight, it belongs on your first list. If you want general management, consulting or finance, a generalist programme will serve you better — say that honestly before paying ₹28 lakh for a specialism you do not want.
