The School of Management Studies at CUSAT is the floor every Kochi MBA shortlist should start from: a state public-university MBA whose entire two-year tuition bill is smaller than one semester at most private PGDMs, selected by a published 70:20:10 rank list. It is also the cleanest answer in Kerala to the “can’t you just get me a seat” question — the university prints its own vacancy rounds.

What should an applicant plan for?

Watch the CUSAT admission portal from early in the year; for the 2026 cycle, MBA applications at SMS closed on 30 April 2026, and only CMAT, CAT or KMAT (Kerala) results declared before that closure counted, each from tests held after November 2025. There is no CUSAT paper for the MBA — your national or state test is the exam. Shortlists on test marks lead to a personal interview at the school, and the final rank list weights test 70%, interview 20% and Class-12 marks 10%. That Class-12 slice is unusual and worth knowing: a 95-plus board score adds the full ten points.

The money is the headline. The official 2026 fee schedule puts a general-category semester at Rs 53,842 all-in — Rs 35,200 tuition plus Rs 18,642 of common fees — roughly Rs 2.15 lakh for the whole degree. All India Quota students pay Rs 62,642 a semester, and the five published NRI supernumerary seats pay Rs 1,24,242 a semester plus a one-time Rs 1,50,000. The university’s own spot-admission notice repeats those figures to the rupee — two official documents, no ambiguity.

And the vacancy story is documented. When the first allotment left openings, the university announced a first real-time admission for 13 July 2026: rank-list candidates only, a printed category-wise vacancy table of 22 openings, fees remitted on the spot after verification, under real-time admission rules the university had formally modified that May.
