SIBM Bengaluru vs SIBM Hyderabad: The Two Campuses That Print the 2x Rule
SIBM Bengaluru vs SIBM Hyderabad for 2027: Rs 10.70 lakh vs Rs 8.50 lakh a year, both SNAP-only, and both print the Discretionary Quota at double the open fee. Official fee pages compared today.
The short answer
As of 27 September 2026, SIBM Bengaluru and SIBM Hyderabad are the two Symbiosis MBA campuses that print the Discretionary Quota in writing: double the open-category academic fee, paid to the institute itself, with good entrance scores still required. Open fees read Rs 10,70,000 a year at Bengaluru against Rs 8,50,000 at Hyderabad. Both official fee pages were opened today.
Inside the Symbiosis system, two SIBM campuses do something the flagship does not: they print the Discretionary Quota rule on their own fee pages. Bengaluru and Hyderabad both reserve a few seats, in writing, at double the open-category academic fee — and both still demand good entrance scores. This page puts the two printed bills side by side, from both official fee pages opened on 27 September 2026, so a family can read the rule exactly as the institutes wrote it.
The rule, verbatim at both campuses
SIBM Bengaluru’s fee page prints: “Few seats are reserved as Discretionary Quota Seats. Only students with reasonable academic record and with good entrance test scores are considered for Discretionary Quota Seats. The fees for Discretionary Quota Seats will be double the academic fees of the open category as approved by the Fee Structure Committee, to be paid to the institute by way of online transfer/demand draft.”
SIBM Hyderabad’s page prints the same rule with one clause that matters enormously at signature time: “Once admission is taken in Discretionary Quota, the fees applicable to Discretionary Quota will have to be paid by the student for the entire duration of the programme.” Both pages carry the university’s line that no donation or capitation fee is charged for admission to any programme at any SIU institute. The doubled fee is not a one-year premium — it is the whole programme at 2x.
The open-category bills: Rs 2.2 lakh a year apart
| Line | SIBM Bengaluru | SIBM Hyderabad |
|---|---|---|
| Academic fee, per annum | Rs 10,70,000 (Batch 2026-28) | Rs 8,50,000 (AY 2026-27) |
| Institute deposit (refundable) | Rs 20,000 | Rs 20,000 |
| First instalment, at admission | Rs 8,14,500 | Rs 7,08,400 |
| Second instalment, by 25 Nov 2026 | Rs 5,94,800 | Rs 4,97,100 |
| Hostel, per annum | Rs 1,79,700 (twin/triple) | Rs 1,71,300 (three sharing) |
| Mess, per annum | Rs 1,19,600 | Rs 1,44,200 |
| Annual rise cap on hostel/mess | 15% | 10% |
| Doubled-quota read, per annum | about Rs 21,40,000 | about Rs 17,00,000 |
Hyderabad’s page also prints its own fee history — Rs 8,03,000 for AY 2024-25 and Rs 8,27,000 for 2025-27 — a Rs 47,000 two-year climb to today’s Rs 8,50,000, which is the honest way to read how these tables move. Across two years the open-category academic gap is about Rs 4.4 lakh; residence lines narrow it only slightly.
The shared door: one SNAP calendar
Both campuses admit through SNAP and only SNAP, on the calendar re-verified today at snaptest.org: registration closes 25 November 2026, the three computer-based tests run 13, 19 and 26 December 2026, and the result prints 12 January 2027 — after which each campus runs its own GE-PI process. The printed process makes programme registration a separate paid step from the test fee; missing the institute’s own form is the classic unforced error. Every institute deadline we have verified this cycle is on the SNAP page.
What the printed rule means for a low-score student
Read the eligibility clause again: “good entrance test scores” are required even for the Discretionary Quota. This is the honest-counsellor point that separates a printed institute route from an agent’s promise — the 2x line is a pricing rule for a small number of institute-discretion seats, not a way around SNAP. If an agent quotes a Symbiosis seat without a SNAP score, or asks for cash outside the institute’s own transfer or demand draft, that contradicts the page you just read. The six-campus quota map and the printed-premiums comparison track every campus where this rule exists in writing.
How to choose
On open-category merit, the decision is budget-versus-brand-ecosystem: Hyderabad saves about Rs 4.4 lakh across the programme on a younger campus, while Bengaluru prices its city and recruiter depth at Rs 10.7 lakh a year. On the Discretionary Quota question, the two pages together answer the only questions that matter: the route exists in writing at both, it costs double for the entire duration, it is paid to the institute, and it still needs a real SNAP score. Everything else an agent tells you about these two campuses is not on the page.

- What is the Discretionary Quota at SIBM Bengaluru and SIBM Hyderabad?
- A printed, institute-run category — not an agent route. Both fee pages state that a few seats are reserved as Discretionary Quota Seats, that only students with a reasonable academic record and good entrance test scores are considered, and that the fee is double the open-category academic fee as approved by the Fee Structure Committee, paid to the institute by online transfer or demand draft. Hyderabad's page adds the clause that the doubled fee applies for the entire duration of the programme once admission is taken in the quota. It never rescues a no-score candidate.
- What does the 2x rule cost at each campus?
- On the pages opened today: Bengaluru's open academic fee is Rs 10,70,000 a year, so the doubled rate reads about Rs 21,40,000 a year — roughly Rs 42.8 lakh in academic fees across the two years. Hyderabad's open academic fee is Rs 8,50,000 a year, so the doubled rate reads about Rs 17,00,000 a year, roughly Rs 34 lakh across two years. Both are paid to the institute by transfer or demand draft, never to an intermediary.
- Which campus is cheaper for open-category students?
- Hyderabad, by Rs 2,20,000 a year on the academic fee — Rs 8,50,000 against Rs 10,70,000, about Rs 4.4 lakh across the programme before residence. Residence narrows it slightly: Hyderabad prints hostel Rs 1,71,300 three-sharing plus mess Rs 1,44,200 a year with a 10% annual rise cap, while Bengaluru prints hostel Rs 1,79,700 plus mess Rs 1,19,600 with a 15% cap. The like-for-like gap stays near Rs 4 lakh.
- How do I apply to SIBM Bengaluru or SIBM Hyderabad for 2027?
- Both are SNAP-only doors on the same calendar, re-verified today on snaptest.org: SNAP registration closes 25 November 2026, the three computer-based tests run 13, 19 and 26 December 2026, and the result prints 12 January 2027 — after which each campus runs its own GE-PI process with its own registration. Paying the SNAP test fee alone did not make candidates eligible for programme shortlisting in the printed process; the institute registration is a separate step.
- Is the Discretionary Quota the same as the management quota agents sell?
- No, and the difference is the whole point of this page. The printed route is on the institute's own fee page, priced by a Fee Structure Committee, paid to the institute by traceable transfer or demand draft, and still requires good entrance scores. The agent version is none of those things. Symbiosis's university notice, printed beside these tables, states no donation or capitation fee is charged for admission to any programme at any SIU institute — an agent's invoice is the red flag, not the route.
- Does SIBM Pune have this 2x rule too?
- SIBM Pune's own fee page does not print the Discretionary Quota line — the campuses we have verified carrying it in writing are Bengaluru and Hyderabad among the SIBM family, plus SIDTM, SIOM Nashik, SIMC and SSSS elsewhere in the Symbiosis system. The full map, with each campus's verbatim paragraph, lives on our Symbiosis discretionary-quota page.
