What TANCET is, and what it is not

TANCET — the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test — is run by Anna University’s TANCET cell for MBA, MCA and (as CEETA-PG) postgraduate engineering programmes across the state. For MBA aspirants targeting Tamil Nadu’s government-university ecosystem and its affiliated colleges, it is the standard gate. It is not an all-India exam, and it is not the gate for the deemed universities and standalone PGDM schools agents tend to name — those publish their own accepted-exam lists.

That is the entire official cost of the exam-and-counselling pipeline. Any figure beyond this that a consultant quotes as “TANCET fee” is their own charge, not the state’s — ask them to say so in writing.

The two-step process most candidates get wrong

The brochure’s own note for MBA and MCA candidates says the procedure consists of exactly two steps: appearing for TANCET 2026, and then applying for admission to the admitting authorities concerned — with students advised to look for separate advertisements from those authorities.

In practice this means a TANCET score is necessary but not sufficient. After results, each admitting authority — Anna University’s departments, the government university systems, the affiliated-college counselling body — opens its own application. Eligibility and the fine print that bites

A recognised degree (or a final-year candidate in the 2025-26 academic year) is the base requirement; minimum marks sit with the admitting authorities.
The question book carries a unique serial number that you must shade onto the answer sheet. The brochure warns that evaluation follows what you shade — a mistake there can produce an erroneously evaluated paper, and the authorities take no responsibility.
Hall-ticket numbers matter through counselling; the brochure sets out the reissue process for lost hall tickets after the exam.
SC/SCA/ST candidates may qualify for post-matric scholarships under the cited government orders, subject to parental income ceilings (Rs 2,50,000 generally; Rs 2,00,000 for SC/SCA converted Christians) — income certificate required.

Check your target school’s own test. Several Tamil Nadu deemed universities conduct their own entrance or accept CAT/XAT/MAT/CMAT scores — the accepted list is on each school’s admission page.
