Last updated 29 August 2026 · Reviewed by Piyush Agarwal · Latest change: Initial sourced profile published from the official admissions page opened 29 August 2026: tuition and application fee tables, programme-wise percentile bars, selection weights, the written no-management-quota declaration, scholarship tiers and the 2026-28 key-dates table. The short answer
As of August 2026, TAPMI Manipal's two-year MBAs cost a published Rs 9,75,000 a year in tuition, shortlist on CAT/XAT/GMAT (NMAT only for sectoral programmes) with programme-wise bars of 80-90 percentile for under-24-month work experience, and the institute declares in writing that there is no Management Quota — all from the official admissions page opened 29 August 2026.
Selection process
- Apply online on the official TAPMI portal only — the institute posts a standing warning that fraudulent sites impersonate its application portal each cycle.
- Programme-wise eligibility bars (MBA Core): CAT/XAT/GMAT above the 90th percentile with work experience below 11 months; above the 80th percentile with 12-23 months; profile-based shortlisting above 24 months. MBA-Technology Management: above the 85th percentile below 12 months' experience, profile-based at 12 months or more.
- Stage I shortlisting takes the best score among CAT 2025, XAT 2026, GMAT (1 Jan 2021-31 Jan 2026) and NMAT 2025 — multiple scores may be submitted; the overall profile (academics, experience, extra-curriculars, diversity) is read alongside.
- Stage II is Group Discussion, Written Ability Test and Personal Interview; the format is revised year to year.
- Final selection weights, published on the page: entrance test 35%, academics (X, XII, graduation) 15%, GD/WAT/PI 45%, gender diversity and extra-curriculars 5% — per AICTE APH 2024-27, subject to change.
- Fast-Track Admits: a small group of outstanding applicants receive offer letters within 48-72 hours of interview. NRI/NRI-sponsored/PIO/foreign-national categories exist with separate exam rules (GMAT compulsory for foreign nationals) and profile-based shortlisting.

Is there a management quota here?
TAPMI's admissions page carries a one-line answer in its own words: 'There is no Management Quota at TAPMI.' Every seat runs through the published entrance-plus-GD/WAT/PI process with published weights (entrance 35%, GD/WAT/PI 45%, academics 15%, diversity 5%), and scholarships up to a 100% tuition waiver are awarded on merit, not paid for. Anyone selling a 'TAPMI management-quota seat' is selling something the institute says does not exist; the merit weights and the no-quota line are the counter-documents.
TAPMI is the rare Indian B-school that answers the quota question in writing. Halfway down its admissions page sits a single sentence worth more than any consultant’s assurance: “There is no Management Quota at TAPMI.” Around it, the page publishes almost everything a family needs to plan: the fee to the rupee, programme-wise percentile bars, selection weights, scholarship tiers and the application calendar. This profile is built entirely from that page, opened on 29 August 2026.
Next question, if you are comparing western-coast merit schools: how GIM Goa’s audited numbers compare.
How does the selection machine actually run?
Two stages, both published. Stage I shortlists on the best valid score among CAT 2025, XAT 2026, GMAT (any time between 1 January 2021 and 31 January 2026) and NMAT 2025 — you may submit more than one score. The bars are programme-wise and experience-wise: for the core MBA, above the 90th percentile if you have under 11 months of work experience, above the 80th percentile with 12-23 months, and profile-based shortlisting (no fixed bar) beyond 24 months. MBA-Technology Management sets a similar 85th-percentile bar for freshers.
Stage II is a Group Discussion, Written Ability Test and Personal Interview — TAPMI openly says the format is revised every year. Final selection then applies published weights: entrance 35%, academics 15%, GD/WAT/PI 45%, diversity and extra-curriculars 5%. Read that table carefully: the interview block alone outweighs the exam. A moderate percentile with a strong interview beats a high percentile with a weak one. A small Fast-Track cohort even receives offers within 48-72 hours of interview.
What does it cost, and what does it return?
Rs 9,75,000 a year in tuition — the same published figure for all seven MBA programmes — plus a Rs 20,000 alumni membership, a Rs 40,000 refundable caution deposit and, for BKFS students, Rs 70,000 of SBI/BSE training. Hostel and mess were listed as “will be updated soon” on the day we opened the page, so budget that line from a written confirmation, not a guess. Our budget-band guide places that total (about Rs 19.5 lakh tuition over two years) in the upper-mid band among private MBAs that publish their fees.
On returns, honesty first: TAPMI’s placement pages currently carry process descriptions and legacy news, not current salary statistics, and we do not invent numbers. What is published and verifiable is the scholarship structure — up to a 100% tuition waiver under the Dr. Ramdas M. Pai Scholarships for exceptional performers, 20% for the top sliver of each intake, and an automatic 10% in the Tech and AI & DS programmes — which directly changes the cost math for a strong profile.
Where does TAPMI sit in a shortlist?
As the fully-documented merit door of the Karnataka coast: every number a family needs — fee, bars, weights, dates, the no-quota line — is on one official page, which is rarer than it should be. A low-CAT applicant should read it precisely: the 80th-percentile bar applies with 12-23 months of work experience, and profile-based shortlisting exists beyond 24 months; the percentile-band comparison shows how few schools publish bars this honestly. Compare with GIM Goa (audited placement report, higher fee) or Jaipuria Lucknow (five-exam route, lower fee).
How Udaan helps with TAPMI
By turning the published weights into your strategy. We check which of your scores (CAT, XAT, GMAT, NMAT) clears which programme’s bar, whether your experience length moves you to profile-based shortlisting, and then we prepare the 45% that decides it — GD, WAT and interview. And because the fee is published, the only money conversation left is the scholarship application. No quota talk, because the institute has already answered it.

Questions, answered
- What is the TAPMI MBA fee?
- Rs 9,75,000 per year in tuition for every two-year MBA programme on the official admissions page — about Rs 19.5 lakh across two years before hostel, mess, the Rs 20,000 alumni membership and the Rs 40,000 refundable caution deposit. MBA-BKFS students additionally pay Rs 70,000 for SBI/BSE training. The page lists hostel and mess as 'will be updated soon', so ask for the current figure in writing.
- Does TAPMI accept NMAT?
- Only for sectoral programmes. The general eligibility list names CAT, XAT and GMAT with a valid cut-off score, while NMAT by GMAC is marked 'only for sectoral programs'; MBA-Technology Management's published bar explicitly includes NMAT. NMAT 2025 scores were accepted in Stage-I shortlisting. If your strongest score is NMAT, target MBA-Tech or check the current cycle's list before applying.
- Is there management quota at TAPMI?
- No — the institute prints 'There is no Management Quota at TAPMI' on its admissions page. Admission runs on published weights (entrance 35%, GD/WAT/PI 45%, academics 15%, diversity 5%), and its fee waivers are merit scholarships, not paid seats. Any agent quoting a TAPMI management-quota package is contradicting the institute's own written line.
- What CAT percentile does TAPMI need?
- It depends on work experience, and TAPMI publishes this honestly: for the core MBA, above the 90th percentile with under 11 months' experience, above the 80th percentile with 12-23 months, and profile-based shortlisting (no fixed bar) above 24 months. Entrance is 35% of final selection, so a borderline score can still win on GD/WAT/PI (45%).
- How many programmes can I apply to at TAPMI?
- Up to seven, on a sliding application fee from Rs 2,000 (one programme) to Rs 5,750 (seven). Shortlists are separate and independent for each programme — an offer from one does not guarantee shortlist in another — so apply to two or three that genuinely fit, not all seven.
- What scholarships does TAPMI offer?
- The Dr. Ramdas M. Pai Scholarships for 2026-28: up to a 100% tuition waiver for exceptional academic/professional performers (including CA, CFA, CS, FRM, CMA holders), a 20% waiver for up to 5% of each programme's intake, and an automatic 10% waiver for MBA-Technology Management and MBA-AI & Data Science students. Merit-assessed, not paid for — read the linked scholarship policy for conditions.
