GIM vs XLRI: One XAT Form, Two Bills Rs 9 Lakh Apart
GIM vs XLRI: Rs 21.45 lakh against about Rs 30.5 lakh, official pages re-read today — one XAT form, a score-blind Achiever's Round against XAT-only shortlists.
The short answer
As of 6 October 2026, GIM's fees page prints Rs 21,45,000 for batch 2026-28 across all four programmes against XLRI's official e-Prospectus at Rs 15.25 lakh a year — about Rs 30.5 lakh. One XAT registration reaches both: GIM adds a score-blind Achiever's Round with spot offers; XLRI shortlists on XAT alone. Both print merit-only admissions.
One XAT registration, two of India’s most respected private management brands, and bills roughly Rs 9 lakh apart. GIM’s fees page prints Rs 21,45,000 for the whole 2026-28 batch. XLRI’s own e-Prospectus prices the PGDM at Rs 15.25 lakh a year — about Rs 30.5 lakh. Both documents were re-read today, 6 October 2026, alongside the XAT registration page that feeds both schools.
The two bills, side by side
| GIM (all four PGDM programmes, 2026-28) | XLRI (PGDM BM/HRM) | |
|---|---|---|
| Total | Rs 21,45,000 | About Rs 30.5 lakh |
| Structure | Rs 50,000 + Rs 4,90,000 + Rs 5,30,000 + Rs 10,75,000 | Rs 15.25 lakh per annum |
| Revision clause | Printed schedule for batch 2026-28 | ”Subject to revision”, communicated before admission |
| Programmes on one bill | PGDM, Healthcare Management, Big Data Analytics, Banking Insurance & Financial Services — identical instalments | BM and HRM at one price; GM Rs 25.8 lakh; LSCM Rs 14.96 lakh first year |
| Document | gim.ac.in fees page | Admissions e-Prospectus 2026, linked from xlri.ac.in |
The honest label on the gap: about Rs 9 lakh in GIM’s favour, before XLRI’s revision clause moves. What the premium buys on XLRI’s side is the 1949 brand, the Xavier’s alumni network and the HRM programme that effectively owns its category. What it buys on GIM’s side is a Rs 21.45 lakh all-programme bill, a Goa campus, and a second door into the batch that does not begin with your test score.
Two shortlist philosophies inside one exam
XLRI’s machine starts from the XAT score. No published percentile floor — the institute shortlists programme by programme from the score it gets. XAT 2027 registration runs to 6 December 2026, the exam sits 3 January 2027, and one form covers Jamshedpur and Delhi.
GIM runs two doors in parallel. The regular round weights the objective exam (XAT, CAT or GMAT) at 40%. The Achiever’s Round shortlists “without considering CAT/XAT/GMAT scores initially” — on programme-specific achievements (select degrees; CA/CS/CMA/CFA(US)/ACCA/CIMA/CPA/FRM holders; engineers with 24-plus months at specific companies) or other distinction, with interviews in Delhi, Goa and Kolkata and spot admission offers for select candidates; the unselected carry their score forward to the regular round. Goan-domicile candidates may see the qualifying cut-off lowered by up to 15 points with documentary evidence. There is no XLRI equivalent of any of this.
The quota question, answered from print
Both institutes print merit-only admissions. GIM’s statement is unambiguous: admission is purely merit-based and no donations or payments of any kind are accepted — the FAQ repeats it. XLRI’s official XAT caution states admissions are purely merit-based and involve no Management or NRI Quota, and warns against fake admission offers. An agent offering a seat at either contradicts both documents opened today.
The placement evidence, stated honestly
GIM publishes an IPRS-audited placement report — the audited median for PGDM Core 2024-25 reads Rs 12,62,044, from the signed PDF. XLRI circulates its report through the institute; no consolidated public salary table exists for us to re-verify, so any single XLRI average an aggregator quotes stays unverified. That is not a criticism of XLRI’s outcomes — its placement reputation is genuinely strong — it is a statement about evidence standards. Compare audited print against audited print, and run any figure through the five checks in our placement-report methodology.
Who should pick which
- Pick GIM if the roughly Rs 9 lakh saving is decisive, one of the four programmes (healthcare, big data, banking-insurance) matches your target role, or your profile fits the Achiever’s Round lists — a second door that ignores your score on day one costs you nothing extra.
- Pick XLRI if HRM or the BM brand is the specific target, the XAT-first process suits you, and the roughly Rs 30.5 lakh build is budgeted with its revision clause.
- Either way — write XAT (registration closes 6 December), apply to both, and if an agent offers a seat at either outside these printed processes, both institutes’ own pages, opened today, show no such channel exists.

- Which is cheaper, GIM or XLRI?
- GIM, by roughly Rs 9 lakh on documents re-read 6 October 2026. GIM's fees page prints Rs 21,45,000 for the entire 2026-28 batch across all four full-time programmes. XLRI's own e-Prospectus prices the PGDM (BM) and (HRM) at Rs 15.25 lakh a year — about Rs 30.5 lakh — marked subject to revision and communicated before admission. Both figures come from the institutes' own pages, not aggregators.
- Can one XAT registration reach both GIM and XLRI?
- Yes. XAT 2027 registration runs 15 July to 6 December 2026 (Rs 2,300, plus Rs 200 per XLRI programme), the exam sits 3 January 2027, and both schools read XAT scores. GIM also accepts CAT and GMAT; XLRI's two-year PGDM is XAT-only for Indian applicants. Inside GIM, the same profile can also enter the Achiever's Round — shortlisted without scores — while XLRI has no equivalent: every shortlist there starts from the XAT score.
- What is GIM's Achiever's Round and does XLRI have one?
- The Achiever's Round is GIM's profile-based shortlist: candidates are picked 'without considering CAT/XAT/GMAT scores initially' — on programme-specific achievements (select degrees, professional qualifications like CA/CS/CMA/CFA, 24-plus months at specific companies) or other distinction (national sport, university rank, a star appraisal) — with interviews in Delhi, Goa and Kolkata and spot admission offers for select candidates. XLRI prints no equivalent: its shortlists begin from XAT performance, programme by programme. XLRI sets no published percentile floor; GIM weights the objective exam score at 40% of its assessment.
- Is there a management quota or donation route at GIM or XLRI?
- Neither — both say so in writing, opened today. GIM's page states admission is purely merit-based and that no donations or payments of any kind are accepted; its FAQ repeats that no donation in any form is sought or accepted. XLRI's official XAT caution states admissions are purely merit-based and involve no Management or NRI Quota. Anyone offering a priced seat at either is contradicted by the institutes' own documents.
- How do GIM and XLRI placements compare?
- Different evidence standards — label them. GIM publishes an IPRS-audited placement report (the audited median for PGDM Core 2024-25 reads Rs 12,62,044, carried from the signed PDF). XLRI circulates its placement report through the institute rather than posting a consolidated public salary table, so any single average an aggregator quotes for XLRI stays unverified until the institute's own document shows it. Compare like with like: audited print against audited print.
- Should I pick GIM or XLRI?
- On budget alone, GIM saves roughly Rs 9 lakh and offers four programmes (including healthcare management and big-data analytics) behind one bill. On brand alone, XLRI's HRM programme effectively owns its category in India and the Xavier's network is older and deeper. The practical answer for most candidates is to write XAT, apply to both — GIM's Achiever's Round costs nothing extra if your profile fits its achievement lists — and decide with both offers and both fee documents on the table.
