IIM Jammu vs IIM Udaipur: Two Printed Formulas, One CAT-Score Read
IIM Jammu vs IIM Udaipur: the gender-split 91/89 table against the 94 invitation — 42/30/28 against 55/25/20 on the CAT score; Rs 22,80,756 vs Rs 21,51,258.
The short answer
As of 19 October 2026, IIM Jammu runs a printed 42/30/28 merit formula behind its gender-split 91/89 bar, while IIM Udaipur invites at 94 and scores the CAT itself — 55/25/20 on the normalised score, not the percentile. Jammu bills Rs 22,80,756; Udaipur Rs 21,51,258 with hostel and mess inside.
Two solo doors, two fully printed formulas — and both read the CAT itself. IIM Jammu shortlists off a gender-split table — General-category men at 91, women and transgender candidates at 89 — and scores its merit list 42/30/28. IIM Udaipur invites at 94 with 75 sectionals and scores 55/25/20 on the normalised CAT score — its policy spells out that the score, not the percentile, is what it reads. Both official pages were re-read today, 19 October 2026. Jammu bills Rs 22,80,756; Udaipur bills Rs 21,51,258 with hostel and mess inside every term.
The two doors, exactly as printed
| IIM Jammu (MBA 2026-28) | IIM Udaipur (MBA 2026-28) | |
|---|---|---|
| General bar | Male 91 (72 sectionals) / female and transgender 89 (71s) | 94 overall with 75/75/75 sectionals |
| EWS / NC-OBC | 74/72 / 74/72 by the same gender split | 81 / 81 |
| SC / ST | 54/52 / 32/30 | 66 / 42 |
| Process shape | Own stages inside CAP 2026 | Invitation-email registration after the CAT result |
| Batch | About 300 | 375 planned (16th batch) |
| Offer acceptance | Per the offer letter; withdrawal to 5:30 PM 21 June 2026 | Rs 1,00,000 adjusted in Term-1 |
The bars tell two stories. Jammu’s table splits by gender — the 89 line is the lowest printed General-family door in this pair, and it applies to every female and transgender candidate. Udaipur’s 94 is a single invitation line, two points above Jammu’s male bar, behind which the formula does the work.
The formulas: two printed arithmetic reads of the same exam
Jammu’s final runs 42/30/28: CAT Score 42 — a straight 0.42 multiplied by your absolute CAT percentile — Personal Interview 30, and Profile 28, split academic profile 10, work experience 10 (peaking at 24-36 months) and gender diversity 8.
Udaipur’s final runs 55/25/20: Normalised CAT Score 55%, Personal Interview 25%, Profile 20% — and the policy carries the sentence that settles the usual confusion: the CAT Score would be used, not the CAT percentile. More than half the final rides on the exam itself; the profile block weights academics, work experience and diversity together at 20.
The bills: Rs 1.3 lakh apart, scope in Udaipur’s favour
Jammu prints Rs 22,80,756 across six terms — tuition Rs 2,39,635 a term (Rs 14,37,810 of the total), terms billing Rs 3,85,126 / 3,79,126 / 3,79,126 each year. The page was re-read today.
Udaipur prints Rs 21,51,258 across six terms — Rs 3,29,955 + 3,83,298 + 3,79,255 + 3,56,250 + 3,51,250 + 3,51,250 — with hostel (Rs 25,000-26,250 a term) and mess (Rs 24,255-28,298 a term) inside every term: a residential total, not a tuition headline. The Rs 20,000 caution sits refundable in Term-1, the Rs 5,000 alumni fee in Term-6, and the page prints an assistance line for annual household income below Rs 6,00,000. On print, Udaipur is Rs 1,29,498 lighter — and the gap widens once Jammu’s boarding is priced separately.
The quota question, answered from print
Neither institute prints any management, institutional or discretionary route — no IIM does. Jammu admits through CAP 2026 and its own stages; Udaipur runs its own invitation process after the CAT result — both off the CAT under the Government of India reservation framework. An agent quoting a priced seat at either campus is selling the thing those sentences name.
Who should pick which
- Pick Jammu if you are a female or transgender candidate in the 89-93 band — the split table is the only printed door of the two — or your work experience sits at 24-36 months, where Jammu’s 10-mark block pays it directly.
- Pick Udaipur if your CAT clears 94, you want the exam to carry more than half your final, or the residential Rs 21,51,258 — lighter than Jammu’s print with hostel and mess already inside — suits the family budget. The under-Rs-6,00,000 assistance line is printed if the income test fits.
- Either way — Jammu’s route runs through CAP 2026 and its email link; Udaipur’s through its invitation email after the CAT result. The institutes’ own pages carry the operative dates; no third party does.

- What CAT percentile do IIM Jammu and IIM Udaipur need?
- Jammu prints a gender-split table: General-category men need 91 overall with 72 sectionals; women and transgender candidates need 89 with 71s — EWS 74/72, NC-OBC 74/72, SC 54/52, ST 32/30 by the same split. Udaipur invites at 94 overall with 75 sectionals for General (EWS 81, NC-OBC 81, SC 66, ST 42), registration by email invitation after the CAT result. On print, Jammu's 89 line is the lower General-family door — four to five points under Udaipur's 94.
- Which is cheaper, IIM Jammu or IIM Udaipur?
- On the printed documents, Udaipur by Rs 1,29,498 — and the scope favours Udaipur further. Jammu's fee page prints Rs 22,80,756 across six terms (tuition Rs 2,39,635 a term). Udaipur prints Rs 21,51,258 across six terms with hostel (Rs 25,000-26,250 a term) and mess (Rs 24,255-28,298 a term) inside every term — a residential total. Both figures were re-read on the official pages today, 19 October 2026. Udaipur also prints an assistance line for annual household income below Rs 6,00,000.
- How do the two selection formulas differ?
- Both read the CAT itself rather than leaning on school marks. Jammu runs 42/30/28: CAT Score 42 (0.42 times your absolute CAT percentile), Personal Interview 30, Profile 28 — academic 10, work experience 10 peaking at 24-36 months, gender diversity 8. Udaipur runs 55/25/20: Normalised CAT Score 55%, PI 25%, Profile 20% — and its policy spells out 'the CAT Score would be used and not the CAT Percentile'. Udaipur puts more than half its final on the exam; Jammu spreads 58 of 100 across the interview and your profile.
- Is there a management quota at IIM Jammu or IIM Udaipur?
- Neither prints one — an IIM seat is not purchasable. Jammu admits through CAP 2026 and its own stages; Udaipur runs its own invitation-email process after the CAT result — both off the CAT under Government of India reservation law. Anyone quoting a priced seat at either campus is describing fraud, not a route.
- Which should I prefer — IIM Jammu or IIM Udaipur?
- On documents: if you are a female or transgender candidate in the 89-93 band, Jammu's split table is the only printed door of the two. If your CAT clears 94, Udaipur's formula pays the exam harder (55 of 100) and its Rs 21,51,258 residential total is Rs 1.3 lakh lighter than Jammu's print before Jammu's boarding is even counted. If your work experience sits at 24-36 months, Jammu's 10-mark block pays it; Udaipur's profile block weights diversity and academics alongside.
