IIM Nagpur vs IIM Udaipur: The Rs 21 Lakh Price-Twins and Their Two Solo Doors
IIM Nagpur vs IIM Udaipur: Rs 21,00,000 against Rs 21,51,258 on official pages re-read today — two solo, invitation-driven doors that both score the CAT, not the percentile.
The short answer
As of 10 October 2026, IIM Nagpur's printed MBA 2026-28 fee is Rs 21,00,000 (caution and mess extra) against IIM Udaipur's six-term Rs 21,51,258 with hostel and mess inside. Nagpur asks 95 overall with 70 sectionals; Udaipur invites at 94 with 75s. Both run solo, email-driven processes whose final lists score the CAT score, not the percentile.
Two newer IIMs, two near-identical headline bills, and two solo admission machines that share one rare habit. IIM Nagpur’s printed MBA 2026-28 fee is Rs 21,00,000. IIM Udaipur’s six-term table totals Rs 21,51,258 — with hostel and mess already inside. Both pages were re-read today, 10 October 2026. The Rs 51,258 print gap is the second-smallest in our IIM comparison series — and, as with every close pair, the least interesting difference between them.
The two bills, side by side
| IIM Nagpur (MBA 2026-28) | IIM Udaipur (MBA 2026-28) | |
|---|---|---|
| Two-year total | Rs 21,00,000 | Rs 21,51,258 |
| Scope | Excludes mess/food charges; Rs 50,000 refundable caution extra | Hostel (Rs 25,000-26,250/term) and mess (Rs 24,255-28,298/term) inside every term |
| Offer acceptance | Rs 1,00,000, adjusted into Term I | Rs 1,00,000, adjusted into Term I |
| Year split | Year one Rs 10,80,000, year two Rs 10,20,000 (welfare-and-alumni inside) | Six terms: Rs 3,29,955 + 3,83,298 + 3,79,255 + 3,56,250 + 3,51,250 + 3,51,250 |
| Term-I payable | Rs 4,50,000 including caution | Rs 3,29,955 (acceptance adjusted) |
| Assistance | 10 Merit + 10 Need-cum-Merit scholarships (Rs 8 lakh income line) | Tuition waivers at the Rs 6,00,000 household-income line |
| Document | Official fees page + signed fee scan dated 17 December 2025 | Official fees-and-financing page |
The honest label on the gap: Rs 51,258 in Nagpur’s favour before the scopes are matched. Udaipur’s number is fully residential; Nagpur’s excludes mess and food, so a true like-for-like needs Nagpur’s mess bill added first — expect the effective gap to widen, not narrow.
Two solo doors — and why that matters more than the money
Neither institute admits through CAP 2026 or JAP 2026. Both run their own email-driven processes, and both begin the same way: clear the table, wait for the institute’s email, complete its own form inside the window. Miss the window and the candidature ends, whatever your percentile.
Nagpur’s three stages. Stage 1 screens CAT-2025 candidates against its table — General 95 overall with 70 in every section, the highest overall bar in this comparison — and emails those who clear to fill the IIM Nagpur application form. Stage 2 computes a shortlisting score from the CAT score and profile. Stage 3 is the PI, held at Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and the Nagpur campus, with an extempore round. The batch is 340, with the category split printed to the seat.
Udaipur’s invitation. After the CAT result, candidates clearing its table — General 94 overall with 75 sectionals, one overall point lower but five sectional points higher — receive an Admission Office email inviting them to complete a mandatory online registration. The PI runs at Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai and the Udaipur campus. The planned batch is 375.
Both formulas read the CAT score, not the percentile
This is the pair’s real spine, and it is rare. Nagpur’s Final Score = 45% CAT score — computed as the candidate’s total CAT score divided by the maximum among its stage-1 eligible candidates, times ten — + 25% PI + 6% past academics + 9% work experience + 5% academic diversity + 10% gender diversity. That 10% is the heaviest printed gender block in our IIM comparison series. Udaipur’s final merit = Normalised CAT Score 55% + PI 25% + Profile 20%, with the policy stating in so many words that the CAT score, divided by the maximum among its PI attendees, is used — not the percentile. Two candidates on identical percentiles but different raw scores are treated differently by both institutes.
The quota question, answered from print
Neither institute prints any management, institutional or discretionary route — no IIM does. Nagpur’s policy puts the anti-fraud line in writing: all admission communication comes solely from its admissions office, no individual or organisation is authorised to manage admissions, and a fraud attempt means immediate disqualification. An agent quoting a priced seat at either campus is selling the thing that sentence names.
The placement evidence, stated honestly
Both are newer IIMs still building long placement track records, and neither publishes the kind of audited salary table the older IIMs do. We state that gap rather than borrow aggregator averages. When an official placement report reaches you, run the five checks in our placement-report methodology — denominator, median versus average, CTC breakup — before letting it settle a Rs 21 lakh decision.
Who should pick which
- Pick Nagpur if you clear 95 overall with at least 70 in every section, the lower printed bill matters, and your profile earns its keep in the diversity blocks — 10% gender, 5% academic. Its batch of 340 and the Rs 8-lakh-income Need-cum-Merit scholarships are real considerations.
- Pick Udaipur if your strength is the CAT score itself (55% of its final), your sectionals are strong (its 75s are higher than Nagpur’s 70s), or the fully residential printed figure makes budgeting cleaner. The Rs 6,00,000-income assistance line is the lower of the two.
- Either way — watch your registered email after the CAT result. Both doors open by invitation and close on a deadline, and both institutes’ own pages, not any aggregator, carry the final word.

- Which is cheaper, IIM Nagpur or IIM Udaipur?
- On the printed tables re-read 10 October 2026, IIM Nagpur by Rs 51,258 — its MBA 2026-28 total is Rs 21,00,000 against IIM Udaipur's six-term Rs 21,51,258. Match the scopes before celebrating: Udaipur's figure already contains hostel and mess in every term, while Nagpur's excludes mess and food charges and adds a Rs 50,000 refundable caution deposit on top. The true like-for-like gap is therefore wider than Rs 51,258 in Nagpur's favour — but only Nagpur's mess bill will say by how much.
- What CAT percentile do IIM Nagpur and IIM Udaipur need?
- Nagpur prints the harder table: General 95 overall with 70 in each section (EWS/NC-OBC 85 with 55s, SC 65 with 40s). Udaipur's published policy asks General 94 overall with 75 sectionals — one overall point lower but five sectional points higher. Both pages warn the bars move with the pool, and clearing either floor only enters the process: both institutes email the candidates who clear, and missing that email window ends the candidature.
- Do IIM Nagpur and IIM Udaipur admit through CAP or JAP?
- Neither — both run solo processes, which is what makes this pair worth comparing. Nagpur's three-stage process emails CAT-2025 candidates who clear its table and asks them to complete its own application form by a deadline; the PI runs at Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and the Nagpur campus. Udaipur emails eligible candidates an invitation to complete a mandatory online registration after the CAT result. Registering for CAT alone is not enough for either institute.
- Does the CAT percentile or the CAT score matter at these two IIMs?
- The score, at both — and that is rare enough to be this page's spine. Nagpur's Final Score weights the CAT at 45%, computed as the candidate's total CAT score divided by the maximum among its stage-1 eligible candidates. Udaipur's final merit weights the Normalised CAT Score at 55%, with the policy spelling out 'the CAT Score would be used and not the CAT Percentile'. Two candidates on the same percentile can land different composites at both institutes.
- Which formula is kinder to my profile — Nagpur's or Udaipur's?
- Nagpur prints the widest spread: CAT 45%, PI 25%, past academics 6%, work experience 9%, academic diversity 5% and gender diversity 10% — the heaviest printed gender block in our IIM comparison series. Udaipur concentrates: CAT 55%, PI 25%, profile 20%. If your CAT score is your strength, Udaipur leans on it more; if you bring gender or academic diversity, Nagpur pays for it in print.
- Is there a management quota at IIM Nagpur or IIM Udaipur?
- Neither prints one — an IIM seat is not purchasable. Nagpur's policy states that all admission communication comes solely from its admissions office, which authorises no individual or organisation to manage admissions, and that fraud attempts mean immediate disqualification. Both institutes admit through CAT alone under Government of India reservation law. Anyone selling a seat at either is describing exactly that fraud.
- Which should I prefer — IIM Nagpur or IIM Udaipur?
- On documents: if your CAT clear sits at 94 with strong sectionals, Udaipur's 75-sectional table may admit you where Nagpur's 70s at 95-overall would not; if you cleared 95 with weaker sectionals, Nagpur's 70-sectional bar is the friendlier door. Udaipur's bill is residential and fully printed; Nagpur's asks you to add mess costs. Nagpur's batch is 340 against Udaipur's planned 375. Both are newer IIMs — run any salary figure anyone quotes you through the checks in our placement-report guide before it decides this.
