IIM Kashipur vs IIM Nagpur: the JAP partner against the solo three-stage door

A Rs 20,000 sticker gap — and two very different machines behind it. IIM Kashipur prints Rs 20,80,000 for the MBA 2026-28 with 10% of the batch on full yearly tuition waivers, and admits through the JAP 2026 joint process. IIM Nagpur prints Rs 21,00,000 with twenty named scholarships, and runs its own three-stage process behind a published CAT-2025 table. Both official pages were re-read today, 21 October 2026.

The honest label: the stickers sit Rs 20,000 apart, and neither is fully scoped — Kashipur prints no mess line, Nagpur’s total excludes the refundable caution and food. The aid nets differ by design: Kashipur spreads a full waiver across a tenth of the batch; Nagpur names twenty students, half on merit at the 95-percentile line and half on need at the Rs 8 lakh income line.

The reference table against the printed table

This is the pair’s sharpest document difference. Nagpur publishes this cycle’s bar: General 70/70/70 sectionals with 95 overall — EWS and NC-OBC 55s with 85, SC 40s with 65, ST 30s with 40, DAP 25s with 40 — as Table 2 of its 2026-28 policy. Kashipur’s page still carries the CAT-2024 table (General 95 with 75 sectionals, EWS and NC-OBC 81, SC 66, ST and DAP 42) under the printed note that the 2026-28 cut-offs “will be updated soon in accordance with JAP 2026 guidelines”. Both overall General bars read 95; only Nagpur’s is this cycle’s document, and only Kashipur’s carries the JAP caveat. Plan against Nagpur’s printed 95/70s and treat Kashipur’s reference table as the floor of last cycle until the JAP portal publishes.

The formulas — a shared one against a printed one

Kashipur’s final-stage computation travels under the common JAP 2026 policy — one registration on the portal IIM Raipur hosts, one common shortlist with Ranchi and Trichy, one joint Personal Interview. Nagpur prints its own arithmetic in full: Final Score = 45% CAT score (the candidate’s total scaled against the stage-1 maximum, times ten) + 25% PI + 6% past academic performance + 9% work experience + 5% academic diversity + 10% gender diversity — the heaviest printed gender block in this series. Nagpur’s process is solo and email-driven: clear the Table-2 bar, receive the institute’s mail, file its form by the deadline, then interview at Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata or the Nagpur campus, with an extempore round inside the PI.

The quota question, answered from print

Neither institute prints any management, institutional or discretionary route — no IIM does. Kashipur’s page carries its anti-fraud disclaimer; Nagpur’s policy cancels admission immediately for fraud or misrepresentation at any stage, with no refund. Both admit through CAT under Government of India reservation law — an agent quoting a priced seat at either campus is selling fraud, and both official pages are the verification.

Who should pick which

• Pick Kashipur if the JAP registration already covers your targets — one form reaches Kashipur, Raipur, Ranchi and Trichy — and if the wider waiver net matters: a tenth of the batch on full yearly tuition waivers is the broadest printed aid share in this series.
• Pick Nagpur if you want this cycle’s printed table and formula rather than a reference and a shared policy, you are a female candidate (its 10% gender-diversity block is the heaviest we have mapped), or you qualify for the Rs 8-lakh-income Need-cum-Merit line.
