IIM Kashipur vs IIM Trichy: One JAP Interview, Two Waiver Nets, Priced

IIM Kashipur vs IIM Trichy: Rs 20.80 lakh against Rs 19.5 lakh, one JAP interview, and two very different fee-waiver nets — from official pages read today.

The short answer

As of 8 October 2026, IIM Kashipur's printed MBA 2026-28 fee totals Rs 20,80,000 with the caution deposit inside, against IIM Trichy's Rs 19.5 lakh with caution and mess outside. Both admit through JAP 2026; Kashipur still prints its pre-JAP CAT-2024 table as reference while Trichy prints the JAP-era 95.25 table, and Kashipur's waiver net is the wider one.

Two JAP 2026 partners, one joint interview — and two very different answers to the question of who gets helped with the bill. IIM Kashipur’s printed MBA 2026-28 fee totals Rs 20,80,000 with the caution deposit inside. IIM Trichy’s prints Rs 19.5 lakh with caution and mess outside. Both pages were re-read today, 8 October 2026. The sticker gap is Rs 1.3 lakh in Trichy’s favour; the more interesting difference is what each campus prints about cut-offs, and how wide each opens its waiver net.

The honest label: Trichy’s sticker is Rs 1.3 lakh lower, but the tables are built differently — Kashipur’s total already carries its smaller caution deposit and prints no mess line, while Trichy’s excludes both a Rs 30,000 deposit and Rs 1,44,000 of six-term mess advances. Compare Kashipur’s printed Rs 20,80,000-plus-mess against Trichy’s printed Rs 21,24,000 all-in, and ask Kashipur’s admissions office for the current mess rate before calling the gap.

One interview — and two levels of cut-off transparency

Both campuses admit through JAP 2026: one registration on the portal IIM Raipur hosts, one common shortlist with IIM Ranchi, one joint Personal Interview across Bangalore, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi and the four campuses. What differs is what each prints about the bar. Trichy publishes its JAP-era table in full — General 95.25 overall with 75 in every section, stepping through EWS 89 and NC-OBC 88.5 down to DAP 30 — and warns it is necessary but not sufficient. Kashipur’s page still carries the CAT-2024 table as a labelled reference (General 95 with 75 sectionals, EWS and NC-OBC 81, SC 66, ST and DAP 42) under the printed note that the 2026-28 cut-offs “will be updated soon in accordance with JAP 2026 guidelines”. Trichy tells you this cycle’s bar; Kashipur tells you last cycle’s and says the new one is coming.

The waiver nets — the widest against the deepest

This is where the pair separates. Kashipur prints the widest waiver net in this comparison series: 10% of MBA participants receive a full yearly tuition waiver, spread across need-based, merit-based and need-cum-merit heads, with the four Government of India top-class schemes (ST, SC, PM-YASASVI for OBC/EBC/DNT, and students with disabilities) listed beside them. Trichy’s Academic Fee Waiver Scheme, introduced in 2025-26, is narrower and deeper: 2% of the registering batch gets a 50% waiver of academic fees, selected on financial need. A full waiver for a tenth of the batch against a half waiver for a fiftieth — if the bill is the constraint, Kashipur’s printed odds are the better ones, and both institutes’ pages ask you to apply rather than assume.

The formula and the history

Trichy prints its final-stage weights in full: CAT 52%, PI 20%, work experience 10% (peaking at 24-29 months), Class X 2%, Class XII 3%, UG performance 5%, gender diversity 6%, academic diversity 2% — and its page carries the admission-history section with category-wise percentile, composite-score and waitlist-movement data from past cycles. Kashipur’s final-stage computation travels under the common JAP 2026 policy rather than a campus page. For a candidate modelling their own rank, Trichy’s page is the fuller map; for a candidate modelling the bill, Kashipur’s is the more generous one.

The quota question, answered from print

Neither institute prints any management, institutional or discretionary route — no IIM does. Both seats move through CAT and JAP 2026 under Government of India reservation law. An agent quoting a priced seat at either campus is selling fraud; both official pages are the verification.

Who should pick which

  • Pick Trichy if you want the fullest published picture of how you will be ranked — the JAP-era 95.25 table, the 52/20/10 formula, the admission history — and the lower sticker, and if you carry 24-29 months of work experience where its bands peak.
  • Pick Kashipur if the bill is the binding constraint: its printed waiver net covers 10% of the batch with full yearly tuition waivers, its caution deposit is already inside the printed total, and its reference table lets you sanity-check last cycle’s floor.
  • Either way — one JAP registration reaches both. Register on the portal when it opens after the CAT result, apply to both waiver schemes if you qualify, and read each campus’s own page, not an aggregator, for the table that will rank you.

Straight answers

Which is cheaper, IIM Kashipur or IIM Trichy?
On the printed tables re-read 8 October 2026, the stickers sit Rs 1.3 lakh apart — Kashipur Rs 20,80,000 (with the Rs 9,000 caution deposit inside), Trichy Rs 19.5 lakh (caution and mess outside). Count Trichy's mess advance of Rs 24,000 a term and the all-in Trichy bill reaches Rs 21,24,000. Kashipur's page prints no mess line at all, so its true all-in is its printed total plus whatever the mess bills — ask the admissions office for the current mess rate before comparing final budgets.
Is the admission process the same for IIM Kashipur and IIM Trichy?
Yes at the front, separate at the back. Both admit through JAP 2026 — one registration on the portal IIM Raipur hosts, one common shortlist with IIM Ranchi, one joint Personal Interview across six cities and the four campuses. After the shared interview each campus computes its own merit list: Trichy prints its formula (CAT 52%, PI 20%, work experience 10%, academics 10%, diversity 8%), while Kashipur's own final-stage formula travels under the common JAP 2026 policy.
What CAT percentile do IIM Kashipur and IIM Trichy need?
Trichy prints its JAP-era table in full: General 95.25 overall with 75 in each section — EWS 89, NC-OBC 88.5, SC 75, ST 44, DAP 30 — 'necessary but not sufficient'. Kashipur's page still carries the CAT-2024 table as a labelled reference — General 95 with 75 sectionals, EWS 81, NC-OBC 81, SC 66, ST and DAP 42 — with the printed note that the 2026-28 cut-offs 'will be updated soon in accordance with JAP 2026 guidelines'. Read Kashipur's table as the floor of last cycle, not this cycle's promise.
Which has the better fee waivers, IIM Kashipur or IIM Trichy?
Kashipur's net is wider, Trichy's is deeper per beneficiary. Kashipur prints that 10% of MBA participants receive a full yearly tuition waiver under need-based, merit-based and need-cum-merit heads, plus the four Government of India top-class scholarship schemes. Trichy's Academic Fee Waiver Scheme, introduced in 2025-26, gives 2% of the registering batch a 50% waiver of academic fees on financial need. A full waiver for a tenth of the batch against a half waiver for a fiftieth — financially needy candidates should apply to both schemes.
Is there a management quota at IIM Kashipur or IIM Trichy?
Neither prints one — an IIM seat is not purchasable. Both admit through CAT and the JAP 2026 joint process under Government of India reservation law. Anyone quoting a priced seat at either institute is describing fraud; verify directly on the official websites and the JAP portal.
Which should I prefer — IIM Kashipur or IIM Trichy?
On documents, the decision splits on transparency and aid. Trichy prints the more current cut-off table (JAP-era), the more detailed final formula, its admission history and the lower sticker. Kashipur prints the wider waiver net (10% of the batch on full tuition waivers) and a fee table with the caution deposit already inside. If financial aid is decisive, Kashipur's printed odds are better; if you want the fullest published picture of how you will be ranked, Trichy's page gives more.
