IIM Jammu vs IIM Kashipur: The Gender-Split Table Against the JAP Reference
IIM Jammu vs IIM Kashipur: the 91/89 gender-split shortlist with a CAT-42 formula against the JAP-era 95/75 reference — Rs 22,80,756 against Rs 20,80,000.
The short answer
As of 17 October 2026, IIM Jammu shortlists General men at 91 and women at 89 with 72/71 sectionals, scoring CAT 42, PI 30 and profile 28, at Rs 22,80,756; IIM Kashipur holds the CAT-2024 reference of 95 with 75 sectionals under JAP 2026, at Rs 20,80,000 with a tenth of the batch on full tuition waivers.
Two Himalayan IIMs, two different kinds of printed bar. IIM Jammu publishes a gender-split shortlist table — General men at 91, women at 89 — and scores the final as CAT 42, PI 30, profile 28. IIM Kashipur keeps the CAT-2024 reference table at 95 with 75 sectionals while its 2026-28 bars wait on the JAP 2026 joint policy. Both pages were re-read today, 17 October 2026. The printed bills sit Rs 2,00,756 apart.
The two bars, exactly as printed
| IIM Jammu (MBA 2026-28) | IIM Kashipur (MBA 2026-28) | |
|---|---|---|
| General bar | 91 male / 89 female and transgender | 95 (CAT-2024 reference; JAP 2026 update printed as pending) |
| Sectionals | 72 male / 71 female | 75 / 75 / 75 |
| EWS / NC-OBC | 74 male / 72 female (both) | 81 / 81 reference |
| SC / ST | 54/52 male-female / 32/30 | 66 / 42 reference |
| Process shape | CAP 2026 joint interview (with Bodh Gaya and Sirmaur) | JAP 2026 joint interview (Raipur hosts; with Ranchi and Trichy) |
| Final formula | CAT 42 + PI 30 + Profile 28, printed | JAP 2026 policy governs; reference table stays up |
| Printed fee | Rs 22,80,756 | Rs 20,80,000 (caution inside) |
Jammu is the only institute in this series that prints different bars for men and women on its own policy page — a two-point concession built into the table itself, beside Sambalpur’s five-point flat-bar lowering. Kashipur’s 95/75 is explicitly labelled the previous cycle’s table; treat it as the floor of expectation, not the promise.
The formulas: the published arithmetic against the joint policy
Jammu prints everything. The CAT score converts at 0.42 times the absolute percentile for a maximum of 42 marks; the Personal Interview carries 30; the profile carries 28 with academic profile capped at 10 and work experience at 10. A candidate can read the policy page and compute their own position to the decimal — rare transparency even among IIMs.
Kashipur’s cycle runs through JAP 2026 — the Joint Admission Process it shares with IIM Raipur (the host), IIM Ranchi and IIM Trichy — so its own page keeps the CAT-2024 table up as a reference and says the new bars will be posted under the joint guidelines. The honest read: one shared interview, one common policy document, and an institute page that tells you to watch the joint portal.
The bills: Rs 22,80,756 against Rs 20,80,000
Jammu prints Rs 22,80,756 for 2026-28 — tuition Rs 2,39,635 a term across six terms (Rs 14,37,810), plus other academic and non-academic charges of Rs 4,18,473 in year one and Rs 4,24,473 in year two; the terms bill Rs 3,79,126 each in year one and Rs 3,85,126/3,79,126/3,79,126 in year two. Withdrawal with refund runs to 5:30 PM on 21 June 2026.
Kashipur prints Rs 20,80,000 — admission Rs 25,000, course fee Rs 20,46,000, caution Rs 9,000 inside — at Rs 11,20,000 in year one and Rs 9,60,000 in year two, with Term I due 25 September 2026. The waiver net is the widest printed in this series: ten percent of MBA participants receive a full yearly tuition waiver across need-based, merit-based and need-cum-merit heads, beside the Government of India scholarship list.
The quota question, answered from print
Neither institute prints any management, institutional or discretionary route — no IIM does. Kashipur’s admission page carries the anti-fraud disclaimer in plain language, and both admit through CAT under Government of India reservation law. An agent quoting a priced seat at either campus is selling the thing those sentences name.
Who should pick which
- Pick Jammu if you want every weight printed in advance — the 42/30/28 arithmetic lets you compute your own standing — or if the gender-split table moves your bar down two points. Budget for the higher printed bill.
- Pick Kashipur if the Rs 2,00,756 cheaper print and the ten-percent full-waiver provision matter, and you are comfortable tracking the JAP 2026 joint portal rather than an institute page for this cycle’s bars.
- Either way — both interviews this cycle are joint processes (CAP and JAP respectively), so the calendar after the CAT result is shared with partner institutes on both sides. The official pages carry the operative dates; no third party does.

- What CAT percentile do IIM Jammu and IIM Kashipur need?
- Jammu prints a gender-split table: General men 91 overall with 72 in each section, General women and transgender candidates 89 with 71s — EWS and NC-OBC men 74, women 72; SC men 54, women 52; ST men 32, women 30. Kashipur's page still prints the CAT-2024 reference table — General 95 with 75 sectionals — under the note that the 2026-28 bars will be updated under JAP 2026, the joint process Raipur hosts this cycle. On today's print, Kashipur's reference bar is the higher of the two.
- Which is cheaper, IIM Jammu or IIM Kashipur?
- Kashipur, by Rs 2,00,756 on the printed tables. Kashipur's grand total is Rs 20,80,000 with the Rs 9,000 caution deposit inside (first year Rs 11,20,000, second Rs 9,60,000). Jammu's fee page prints Rs 22,80,756 across six terms — tuition Rs 2,39,635 a term plus the other academic and non-academic lines. Both pages were re-read on 17 October 2026.
- How do the two selection formulas differ?
- Jammu prints the whole arithmetic on its policy page: CAT score 42 marks (0.42 times your absolute percentile), Personal Interview 30, Profile 28 — with academic profile capped at 10 and work experience at 10 inside the profile block. Kashipur's own formula for this cycle is governed by JAP 2026 — the joint admission process it shares with Raipur (the host), Ranchi and Trichy — while its page keeps the CAT-2024 reference table up as the guide. One institute publishes every weight; the other points you to the joint policy.
- Is there a management quota at IIM Jammu or IIM Kashipur?
- Neither prints one — an IIM seat is not purchasable. Kashipur's admission page carries the anti-fraud disclaimer verbatim, and both admit through CAT under Government of India reservation law. Anyone quoting a priced seat at either campus is describing fraud, not a route.
- Which should I prefer — IIM Jammu or IIM Kashipur?
- On documents: if your profile is strong beyond the percentile — academics, work experience, diversity — Jammu's printed 28-mark profile block rewards it explicitly, and women face a lower printed bar (89 against 91). If you want the cheaper printed bill and the widest waiver net, Kashipur's Rs 20,80,000 and the ten-percent full-tuition-waiver provision are the concrete numbers. Both ran joint interviews this cycle — Jammu inside CAP 2026, Kashipur inside JAP 2026 — so the interview travel question is the same on both sides.
