IIM Jammu vs IIM Sambalpur: the gender-split table against the 85 concession
IIM Jammu vs IIM Sambalpur: the gender-split 91/89 shortlist with the 42/30/28 formula against the 85-concession door with no sectionals — Rs 22,80,756 vs unpublished.
The short answer
As of 22 October 2026, IIM Jammu shortlists General men at 91 and women at 89 through CAP 2026 with a printed 42/30/28 final; IIM Sambalpur's solo door drops its General bar from 90 to 85 for all women and experienced men, with no sectional cut-offs. Jammu prints Rs 22,80,756; Sambalpur's flagship fee stays unpublished, its admissions page 404ing a fourth day. Both documents re-read today.
Two newer IIMs whose doors bend — but for different people, in different directions. IIM Jammu prints a gender-split shortlist: General men at 91, women at 89, inside CAP 2026, with the full bill published at Rs 22,80,756. IIM Sambalpur prints a flat 90 that drops to 85 for every female candidate and for men with a year of relevant work experience — the only door in this series with no sectional cut-offs — while its flagship fee remains unpublished and its admissions page 404s a fourth day. Both institutes’ official documents were re-read today, 22 October 2026.

The honest label: this is the one comparison in the series where only one side can be priced. Jammu’s Rs 22,80,756 is printed to the rupee; Sambalpur’s flagship bill does not exist on any reachable official page today. If an agent quotes you a Sambalpur fee with confidence, ask which institute page they read it on — there isn’t one this week.
Two bars, two philosophies
Jammu prints the series’ only gender-split table: General male 91 overall with 72 in each section; female and transgender 89 with 71s; EWS 74/72 by gender; NC-OBC 74/72; SC 54/52; ST 32/30; PwD 32/30. Sambalpur prints one flat table — General 90, EWS 80, NC-OBC 75, SC 55, ST 40, DAP 40 — then prints the concession that defines it: the General bar drops to 85 for male candidates with at least one year of relevant work experience and for all female candidates, and there are no sectional cut-offs at all. The practical read: a General-category woman at 86 percentile is outside Jammu’s printed door and inside Sambalpur’s; a man at 86 with fourteen months of relevant work experience is inside Sambalpur and outside Jammu; a man at 91.5 clears both printed bars.
The formulas behind the lists
Jammu computes in marks: CAT 0.42 x absolute percentile = 42, Personal Interview 30, Profile 28 — with academics, work experience and gender inside the profile block. Sambalpur builds a Pre-PI score out of 75 — CAT (0.31 x overall percentile plus 0.03 per section, about 40 marks), work experience 20 peaking at exactly 30 months and zero-credited beyond 48, Class X 3, XII 3, graduation 4, gender diversity 5 — then a final out of 100 with the interview at 25. Sambalpur’s work-experience weight, 20 of 75 before the interview, is the heaviest in this comparison series; Jammu’s profile block carries its gender split all the way to the merit list.
The quota question, answered from print
Neither institute prints any management, institutional or discretionary route — no IIM does. Jammu’s seats move through CAT and CAP 2026, Sambalpur’s through CAT and its own published process, both under Government of India reservation law; Sambalpur’s reservation percentages follow the Central Educational Institutions Act. An agent quoting a priced seat at either campus is selling fraud; the official pages are the verification.
Who should pick which
- Pick Sambalpur if you are a female candidate or a man with a year-plus of relevant work experience — the 85 concession is printed for exactly you — or if a weak CAT section would fail you elsewhere: Sambalpur prints no sectional gates at all.
- Pick Jammu if your percentile sits at 89-91 with balanced sections, and if a published bill matters to the family’s planning: Jammu’s Rs 22,80,756 is printed today while Sambalpur’s flagship fee is not.
- Either way — Jammu sits in CAP 2026 and Sambalpur runs solo, so one CAT registration can hold both doors. Fill Sambalpur’s own application when it opens, and treat any quoted Sambalpur fee as unverified until the institute’s page comes back and prints one.

- Which is cheaper, IIM Jammu or IIM Sambalpur?
- Only Jammu's bill can be read today. Jammu prints Rs 22,80,756 for MBA 2026-28 — tuition Rs 2,39,635 a term plus other charges, Year 1 Rs 11,37,378 and Year 2 Rs 11,43,378, re-read 22 October 2026. Sambalpur has not published its flagship MBA 2026-28 fee anywhere reachable — its /admission/ page has 404'd four consecutive days — so any figure you are quoted for Sambalpur is unverified until the institute prints it. The only signed Sambalpur table on record is the MBA-BA Delhi fee of Rs 17,25,000, a different programme.
- What CAT percentile do IIM Jammu and IIM Sambalpur need?
- Both print doors in the high-80s to low-90s, with opposite shapes. Jammu prints a gender-split table: General male 91 overall with 72 in every section, female and transgender 89 with 71s, stepping down through EWS 74/72, NC-OBC 74/72, SC 54/52 and ST 32/30. Sambalpur prints 90 overall for the General category, reduced to 85 for all female candidates and for men with at least one year of relevant work experience — and prints NO sectional cut-offs at all, the only door in this series without them.
- Is the admission process shared between IIM Jammu and IIM Sambalpur?
- No. Jammu is a CAP 2026 member alongside Bodh Gaya and Sirmaur — one joint process, one interview. Sambalpur runs a solo process: its own application, its own Pre-PI score out of 75, its own interview. One CAT registration can hold both doors, but Sambalpur's form is separate work, scored on its own grid.
- How is the final merit list computed at each?
- Jammu prints its arithmetic in marks: CAT 0.42 times the absolute percentile, capped at 42, plus Personal Interview 30 and Profile 28 (academics, work experience, gender). Sambalpur builds a Pre-PI score out of 75 — CAT about 40 marks, work experience 20 peaking at exactly 30 months, school and graduation 10, gender diversity 5 — then a final out of 100 with the PI at 25. Sambalpur's work-experience block is the heaviest printed in this series; Jammu's profile block carries the gender split through to the final.
- Is there a management quota at IIM Jammu or IIM Sambalpur?
- Neither prints one — an IIM seat is not purchasable. Jammu admits through CAT and CAP 2026, Sambalpur through CAT and its own published process, both under Government of India reservation law. Anyone quoting a priced seat at either institute is describing fraud; verify directly on the official websites and the CAP portal.
- Which should I prefer — IIM Jammu or IIM Sambalpur?
- On documents, Sambalpur reads friendlier at the bar for the two groups its concession names — all female candidates and men with a year-plus of relevant work experience — and its no-sectionals print forgives a lopsided CAT. Jammu reads friendlier where its gender-split table bends lower (General women at 89 against Sambalpur's flat 85-plus-process) and its full bill is published to the rupee today, while Sambalpur's stays unprinted with its admissions page down a fourth day. Model both formulas against your own profile.
