IIM Jammu vs IIM Trichy: the gender-split table against the JAP bar
IIM Jammu vs IIM Trichy: the gender-split 91/89 shortlist against the JAP-era 95.25 bar, Rs 22,80,756 against Rs 21,24,000 all-in — official pages read today.
The short answer
As of 21 October 2026, IIM Jammu shortlists General-category men at 91 percentile and women at 89 through CAP 2026, while IIM Trichy prints a flat 95.25 inside JAP 2026. Jammu's printed MBA fee totals Rs 22,80,756; Trichy's Rs 19.5 lakh becomes Rs 21,24,000 with mess and caution. Both official pages were re-read today.
Two newer IIMs, two different consortiums, and two very different ideas of what a fair bar looks like. IIM Jammu shortlists General-category men at the 91st percentile and women at the 89th, with a printed fee of Rs 22,80,756. IIM Trichy prints a flat 95.25 for everyone, and a Rs 19.5 lakh fee that becomes Rs 21,24,000 once mess and caution join. Both official pages were re-read today, 21 October 2026. Jammu’s door is the lower one to knock on; Trichy’s bill is the lower one to pay.
The two bills, side by side
| IIM Jammu (MBA 2026-28) | IIM Trichy (PGPM 2026-28) | |
|---|---|---|
| Printed total | Rs 22,80,756 across six terms | Rs 19,50,000 (caution and mess outside) |
| Structure | Y1 Rs 11,37,378; Y2 Rs 11,43,378 | Term 1 Rs 3,79,000 incl. acceptance, caution and mess; Terms 2-6 Rs 3,49,000 |
| Components printed | Tuition Rs 2,39,635 x 6 + other charges Rs 8,42,946 | Acceptance Rs 1,00,000; tuition Rs 2,25,000 Term 1 then Rs 3,25,000 |
| Mess | Inside the printed ‘other charges’ lines | Rs 24,000 per term, outside the headline |
| Caution deposit | Inside the printed total | Rs 30,000, refundable, outside |
| All-in as printed | Rs 22,80,756 | Rs 21,24,000 with six terms of mess and the deposit |
| Fee waivers | Institute scholarships per the financing page | AFWS — 50% academic-fee waiver for 2% of the registering batch, on need |
| Document | Official MBA fee-structure page | Official PGPM admissions page |
The honest label: Trichy’s headline looks Rs 3.3 lakh cheaper than Jammu’s, but the two tables are built differently — Jammu’s Rs 22,80,756 already carries every printed line, while Trichy’s Rs 19.5 lakh excludes Rs 1,44,000 of mess advances and the Rs 30,000 deposit. All-in to all-in, the gap narrows to about Rs 1.57 lakh, still in Trichy’s favour.
Two bars, two philosophies
Jammu prints the only gender-split shortlist table in this comparison series: General male 91 overall with 72 in each section, female and transgender 89 with 71s; EWS men 74 (48 sectionals) and women 72 (47s); NC-OBC 74/72; SC 54/52; ST 32/30. Trichy prints one flat JAP-era table — General 95.25 with 75 sectionals, stepping through EWS 89 and NC-OBC 88.5 down to DAP 30 — and warns in print that the table is necessary but not sufficient. The practical read: a General-category man at 92-95 percentile is inside Jammu’s printed door and outside Trichy’s; a General-category woman at 90 has a printed shot at Jammu and none at Trichy. Only the CAT-2025 result and the two consortiums’ shortlists will confirm where the real cut lines land.
The formulas behind the lists
Jammu computes the final list in marks: CAT 0.42 x absolute percentile = 42 marks, Personal Interview 30, Profile 28 — academics, work experience and gender inside the profile block. Trichy computes in percentages inside JAP 2026: CAT 52%, PI 20%, work experience 10% (peaking at 24-29 months), Class X 2%, Class XII 3%, UG 5%, gender 6%, academic diversity 2% — and its page carries the admission-history section with category-wise percentile, composite-score and waitlist-movement data from past cycles. Trichy tells you more about how previous batches moved; Jammu tells you more about how the bar bends by gender.
The aid nets
Trichy’s Academic Fee Waiver Scheme, introduced in 2025-26, gives 2% of the registering batch a 50% waiver of academic fees on financial need. Jammu’s financing page carries its scholarship and loan lines alongside the fee table. Neither net is wide; if the bill is the constraint, apply for every scheme both pages list rather than assuming one.
The quota question, answered from print
Neither institute prints any management, institutional or discretionary route — no IIM does. Jammu’s seats move through CAT and CAP 2026, Trichy’s through CAT and JAP 2026, both under Government of India reservation law. An agent quoting a priced seat at either campus is selling fraud; both official pages are the verification.
Who should pick which
- Pick Jammu if your percentile sits in the 89-95 band — its printed gender-split door is the lower one — or if your profile (academics, work experience, gender) is stronger than your CAT, where its 28-mark profile block works for you.
- Pick Trichy if you carry a 95-plus score and want the lower all-in bill, the heavier 52% CAT block, and the fullest published admission history in the series.
- Either way — Jammu sits in CAP 2026 and Trichy in JAP 2026, so one CAT registration can hold both doors. Register on both consortium portals after the CAT result, and read each campus’s own page, not an aggregator, for the table that will rank you.

- Which is cheaper, IIM Jammu or IIM Trichy?
- On the printed tables re-read 21 October 2026, Trichy is the lower bill once everything counts. Jammu prints Rs 22,80,756 as the two-year total (tuition Rs 2,39,635 a term plus other academic charges). Trichy prints Rs 19.5 lakh excluding caution and mess — add the printed Rs 24,000 mess advance per term and the Rs 30,000 refundable caution and the all-in Trichy figure is Rs 21,24,000. The honest gap is about Rs 1,56,756 in Trichy's favour, before any aid.
- What CAT percentile do IIM Jammu and IIM Trichy need?
- Different shapes of bar. Jammu prints a gender-split table: General male 91 overall with 72 in every section, female and transgender 89 with 71s — stepping down through EWS 74/72, NC-OBC 74/72, SC 54/52 and ST 32/30 by gender. Trichy prints one flat JAP-era table: General 95.25 overall with 75 sectionals, EWS 89, NC-OBC 88.5, SC 75, ST 44, DAP 30 — with the printed caution that clearing it is necessary but not sufficient.
- Is the admission process shared between IIM Jammu and IIM Trichy?
- No — they sit in different consortiums this cycle. Trichy admits through JAP 2026, the four-IIM joint process IIM Raipur hosts with Kashipur, Ranchi and Trichy (one registration, one common shortlist, one joint PI). Jammu is a CAP 2026 member alongside Bodh Gaya and Sirmaur, with its own printed formula. A candidate can hold both doors at once, but each consortium scores the interview its own way.
- How is the final merit list computed at each?
- Jammu prints its arithmetic in marks: the CAT contributes 0.42 times the absolute percentile, capped at 42 marks, plus Personal Interview 30 and Profile 28 (academics, work experience, gender). Trichy prints percentages: CAT 52%, PI 20%, work experience 10% peaking at 24-29 months, school and UG performance 10%, gender diversity 6%, academic diversity 2%. Jammu's profile block is heavier; Trichy's CAT block is heavier.
- Is there a management quota at IIM Jammu or IIM Trichy?
- Neither prints one — an IIM seat is not purchasable. Both admit through CAT and their joint processes under Government of India reservation law. Anyone quoting a priced seat at either institute is describing fraud; verify directly on the official websites and the CAP/JAP portals.
- Which should I prefer — IIM Jammu or IIM Trichy?
- On documents, Trichy reads friendlier to the strong-CAT candidate and the budget: a printed JAP-era bar, a 52% CAT block, the admission-history tables, and the lower all-in bill. Jammu reads friendlier at the shortlist line — 91 against 95.25 for a General man, 89 for a General woman — and its gender-split table is the more forgiving printed door. Model both formulas against your own profile before choosing where the PI effort goes.
