IIM Jammu vs IIM Nagpur: Two Published Formulas, Rs 1.8 Lakh Apart

IIM Jammu vs IIM Nagpur: the gender-split 91/89 table with CAT-42 arithmetic against the 95 bar with a 45/25/6/9/5/10 final — Rs 22,80,756 against Rs 21,00,000.

The short answer

As of 18 October 2026, IIM Jammu shortlists General men at 91 and women at 89 with 72/71 sectionals, scoring CAT 42, PI 30 and profile 28, at Rs 22,80,756; IIM Nagpur asks 95 with 70 sectionals, scoring CAT 45, PI 25 and four profile blocks, at Rs 21,00,000 — Rs 1,80,756 apart.

Two institutes that both let you compute your own standing before you apply. IIM Jammu shortlists General men at 91 and women at 89, then scores CAT 42, PI 30, profile 28. IIM Nagpur asks 95 with 70 sectionals, then weighs CAT 45%, PI 25% and four profile blocks — including the heaviest printed gender-diversity weight in this series. Both documents were re-read today, 18 October 2026. The printed bills sit Rs 1,80,756 apart.

The gate shapes differ in a way that matters for lopsided scores: Nagpur’s overall bar is four points higher, but its sectional floor is two points lower. A candidate at 96 overall with a 71 in one section fails Jammu’s 72 sectional but clears Nagpur’s 70; a candidate at 94 with even 75s clears Jammu’s bar and never reaches Nagpur’s. The two policies punish different weaknesses.

The formulas: 42/30/28 against 45/25/6/9/5/10

Jammu prints the simplest arithmetic in the series. The CAT score converts at 0.42 times the absolute percentile for a maximum of 42 marks; the Personal Interview carries 30; the profile carries 28 — academic 10 (Class X 2, Class XII 3, graduation 5), work experience 10 (peaking at 24-36 months), gender diversity 8. Three numbers, and you know where you stand.

Nagpur prints the most decomposed final. The CAT component reads your raw score against the stage-1 maximum, scaled to 10, and weighs 45%; the PI — with its extempore round — weighs 25%; Past Academic Performance weighs 6% (1% Class X rating, 2% Class XII, 3% graduation); work experience weighs 9% (measured to 31 January 2026); academic diversity 5%; and gender diversity 10% — the heaviest printed gender block in this series. Where Jammu bakes its gender concession into the shortlist table itself, Nagpur pays it inside the final score.

The bills: Rs 22,80,756 against Rs 21,00,000

Jammu prints Rs 22,80,756 — tuition Rs 2,39,635 a term across six terms, plus other academic and non-academic charges of Rs 4,18,473 in year one and Rs 4,24,473 in year two; the Rs 50,000 caution sits outside, mess bills as per actuals, and the Rs 50,000 offer acceptance adjusts against Term-1. Withdrawal with refund runs to 5:30 PM on 21 June 2026.

Nagpur prints Rs 21,00,000 with the Rs 1,00,000 offer acceptance adjusted toward Term I; its signed fee structure records the refundable caution and mess as extra. The scholarship net is printed beside the fee: ten Merit scholarships for CAT scorers at the 95th percentile and above, and ten Need-cum-Merit scholarships below the Rs 8-lakh family-income line — each a complete two-year tuition waiver.

The quota question, answered from print

Neither institute prints any management, institutional or discretionary route — no IIM does. Nagpur’s policy warns in plain language that its admissions office authorises no individual or organisation to manage admissions, and both admit through CAT under Government of India reservation law. An agent quoting a priced seat at either campus is selling the thing those sentences name.

Who should pick which

  • Pick Jammu if your percentile sits in the 89-94 band, your sectionals are even (the 72 floor is the higher of the two), and you want the simplest printed arithmetic in the series. Budget for the higher printed bill.
  • Pick Nagpur if you clear 95 with 70 sectionals, want the Rs 1,80,756-cheaper printed bill and a shot at twenty full-tuition scholarships, and your profile gains from the heaviest gender-diversity weight in print. Watch your email — the process runs off the CAT-registered address.
  • Either way — both institutes publish every weight in advance, so run your own numbers on both formulas before the shortlists land. The institutes’ own pages carry the operative dates; no third party does.

Straight answers

What CAT percentile do IIM Jammu and IIM Nagpur need?
Nagpur prints the higher General bar: 95 overall with 70 in each section. Jammu prints a gender-split table: General men 91 overall with 72 in each section, General women and transgender candidates 89 with 71s. Four percentile points separate the General-male bars — but Jammu's sectional floor (72) sits two points above Nagpur's (70), so a lopsided score can clear one gate and fail the other.
Which is cheaper, IIM Jammu or IIM Nagpur?
Nagpur, by Rs 1,80,756 on the printed tables. Nagpur's fees page prints Rs 21,00,000 for 2026-28 with the Rs 1,00,000 offer acceptance adjusted toward Term I; its signed fee structure records caution and mess as extra. Jammu's fee page prints Rs 22,80,756 across six terms with the Rs 50,000 caution extra and mess billed as per actuals. Both pages were re-read on 18 October 2026.
How do the two selection formulas differ?
Both institutes print the whole arithmetic — rare transparency. Jammu: CAT 42 (0.42 times your absolute percentile), PI 30, profile 28 (academic 10, work experience 10 peaking at 24-36 months, gender diversity 8). Nagpur: CAT score 45% (your total against the stage-1 maximum, scaled to 10), PI 25%, Past Academic Performance 6%, work experience 9%, academic diversity 5%, gender diversity 10% — the heaviest printed gender block in this series. Jammu leans on the interview (30 against 25); Nagpur reads the CAT score itself rather than the percentile.
Is there a management quota at IIM Jammu or IIM Nagpur?
Neither prints one — an IIM seat is not purchasable. Both admit through CAT under Government of India reservation law; Nagpur's policy warns that its admissions office authorises no individual or organisation to manage admissions on its behalf. Anyone quoting a priced seat at either campus is describing fraud, not a route.
Which should I prefer — IIM Jammu or IIM Nagpur?
On documents: if your percentile sits between 89 and 95, Jammu is the only one of the two whose printed bar can open — and women face a lower bar (89 against 91). If you clear 95 with 70 sectionals, Nagpur offers the cheaper printed bill by Rs 1,80,756, twenty full-tuition scholarships (ten merit at 95-plus, ten need-cum-merit below the Rs 8-lakh income line), and a formula that pays the strongest gender-diversity block in the series. Both let you compute your own standing from the printed weights before you apply.
