IIM Kashipur vs IIM Ranchi: the Intra-JAP Budget Pair, Priced

IIM Kashipur vs IIM Ranchi: Rs 20.8 lakh printed against the signed Rs 19.2 lakh plus mess — the two lowest bills inside JAP 2026, from documents read today.

The short answer

As of 20 October 2026, IIM Kashipur's printed MBA 2026-28 total is Rs 20,80,000 against IIM Ranchi's signed Rs 19,20,000 — but Ranchi's mess sits outside at Rs 28,350 a term, taking its bill to about Rs 20.90 lakh, roughly Rs 10,000 above Kashipur's. Both admit through JAP 2026; Kashipur prints a 10%-of-batch full yearly tuition waiver.

Inside JAP 2026’s four-campus pool, these are the two cheapest seats on paper — and the bill that looks cheaper is not the bill that is. IIM Kashipur’s printed MBA 2026-28 grand total is Rs 20,80,000. IIM Ranchi’s signed fee table totals Rs 19,20,000. Both documents were re-read today, 20 October 2026. The Rs 1,60,000 sticker gap is Ranchi’s; the all-in ordering, once Ranchi’s mess bill counts, is Kashipur’s by about Rs 10,000.

The honest labels matter. Ranchi’s signed table is one batch behind Kashipur’s current one — if Ranchi prints a 2026-28 table at a revised figure, this ordering moves, and we will re-read it the day it appears. And Kashipur’s table prints no mess line, so its own final bill is not fully known either. On what exists today, the pair is effectively price-tied within about Rs 10,000 — and far below the rest of the JAP group.

One interview, two formulas on file

Both campuses admit through JAP 2026 — one registration on the portal IIM Raipur hosts, one common shortlist, one joint Personal Interview. What each campus then does with that interview differs on the published record. Ranchi’s most recent published criteria (8 May 2025, written for the CAP era and carried until a JAP-era Ranchi document appears) compute a consolidated merit list weighted 65% on the CAT — scored by section, with quantitative aptitude alone worth 35 of the scaled maximum — plus profile 20 and PI/WAT 15, with a flat 5-mark gender bonus. Kashipur’s page, by contrast, prints its CAT-2024 table (General 95 with 75 sectionals) explicitly as a reference, with the 2026-28 criteria to be updated under JAP 2026 guidelines. Ranchi shows you a formula from the old machine; Kashipur tells you the new machine’s numbers are coming. The JAP 2026 common policy governs both this cycle.

The waiver net that exists on only one page

Kashipur prints the difference that matters most to a tight family budget: 10% of MBA participants receive a full yearly tuition waiver, under need-based, merit-based and need-cum-merit heads — against a Rs 20,46,000 course fee, a full yearly waiver is worth roughly Rs 10 lakh to each holder. Ranchi’s signed fee document prints no scholarship or waiver scheme at all; its support story is the loan-bank route. Between two near-identical bills, a printed one-in-ten shot at a Rs 10-lakh waiver is a real Kashipur advantage.

The quota question, answered from print

Neither institute prints any management, institutional or discretionary route — no IIM does. Both seats move through CAT and JAP 2026 under Government of India reservation law. Kashipur’s page carries the blunt version: “If any person receives unsolicited or fraudulent communication offering admission in IIM Kashipur, do not respond. Always verify via the official website or the Admission Office before acting on any correspondence.” An agent quoting a priced seat at either campus is selling the thing that sentence names.

The placement evidence, stated honestly

Both are second-generation IIMs with published placement seasons behind them, but neither publishes the audited, denominator-clear salary tables our placement-report methodology asks for. We state that rather than borrow aggregator averages. When either institute’s official report reaches you, run the five checks in our placement-report guide before letting it settle a Rs 20 lakh decision.

Who should pick which

  • Pick Kashipur if you want the bill whose grand total is closest to final (caution inside, no extras beyond mess), or the printed 10%-of-batch full yearly tuition waiver is material to your budget.
  • Pick Ranchi if your CAT — especially your quant scaled score — is your strongest card: its last-published formula weights CAT at 65 with quant alone at 35, the most CAT-heavy print in the JAP group.
  • Either way — one JAP registration reaches both, so there is no either/or at the application stage. Register when the portal opens after the CAT result, and read each campus’s own page, not an aggregator, for the formula that will rank you.

Straight answers

Which is cheaper, IIM Kashipur or IIM Ranchi?
On the sticker, IIM Ranchi by Rs 1,60,000 — its signed table totals Rs 19,20,000 against Kashipur's printed Rs 20,80,000, both re-read 20 October 2026. Count the mess and the gap inverts: Ranchi's mess sits outside at Rs 28,350 a term — Rs 1,70,100 over six terms — taking its bill to about Rs 20,90,100, roughly Rs 10,100 above Kashipur's grand total. Two honesty notes: Ranchi's signed table is for the 2025-27 batch (the most recent published), and Kashipur's table prints no mess line at all — so the true like-for-like ordering waits on Kashipur's residence charges. What survives every reading: these are the two lowest printed bills inside JAP 2026.
Is the admission process the same for IIM Kashipur and IIM Ranchi?
The front end is identical — both admit through JAP 2026: one registration on the portal IIM Raipur hosts, one common shortlist, one joint Personal Interview across the four campuses. After the shared interview each campus computes its own merit list. Ranchi's most recent published criteria (8 May 2025, written for the CAP era) weight the CAT at 65% of the consolidated list — scored by section, with quant alone worth 35 — plus profile 20 and PI/WAT 15, with a flat 5-mark gender bonus. Kashipur's page prints its CAT-2024 table as reference only, with the 2026-28 criteria to be updated under JAP 2026 guidelines.
What CAT percentile do IIM Kashipur and IIM Ranchi need?
The printed reference bars are identical. Kashipur's page prints the CAT-2024 table — General 95 overall with 75 in every section, EWS 81, NC-OBC 81, SC 66, ST and DAP 42 — marked for updating under JAP 2026. Ranchi's most recent published table (8 May 2025) prints the same General 95 with 75 sectionals and warns the figures are indicative, not entitlement. For this cycle both campuses' real bars move with the JAP 2026 common policy and the applicant pool — treat 95/75 as the reference floor, not a promise.
Which has the better financial-aid story?
Kashipur, on print. Its page carries a standing institutional commitment: 10% of MBA participants receive a full yearly tuition waiver under need-based, merit-based and need-cum-merit heads — worth roughly Rs 10 lakh against its Rs 20,46,000 course fee for the one-in-ten who hold it. Ranchi's signed fee document prints no scholarship or waiver scheme; its support route is the standard education-loan one. If a waiver materially changes your budget, Kashipur's printed net is the deciding document.
Is there a management quota at IIM Kashipur or IIM Ranchi?
Neither prints one — an IIM seat is not purchasable. Both admit through CAT and JAP 2026 under Government of India reservation law. Kashipur's own page carries the verbatim warning: 'If any person receives unsolicited or fraudulent communication offering admission in IIM Kashipur, do not respond. Always verify via the official website or the Admission Office before acting on any correspondence.' Anyone quoting a priced seat at either campus is describing fraud.
Which should I prefer — IIM Kashipur or IIM Ranchi?
On documents, the decision is formula-and-waiver shaped. If your CAT score — especially the quant scaled score — is your strongest card, Ranchi's last-published formula (CAT 65%, quant alone 35) fits you. If family finances make the printed 10%-of-batch full tuition waiver decisive, Kashipur's net is the only one of the two that exists on paper. And if you want a final-figure bill rather than a base that grows, Kashipur's grand total includes its caution and prints no extras beyond mess, while Ranchi's signed total excludes Rs 1,70,100 of mess.
