IIM Kashipur vs IIM Udaipur: The JAP Door Against the Solo Formula, Priced

IIM Kashipur vs IIM Udaipur: Rs 20.8 lakh against Rs 21.51 lakh on official pages re-read today — JAP's joint interview against a solo, CAT-score formula.

The short answer

As of 6 October 2026, IIM Kashipur's printed MBA 2026-28 fee totals Rs 20,80,000 against IIM Udaipur's six-term Rs 21,51,258 — Rs 71,258 apart, with Udaipur's table including hostel and mess. Kashipur admits through the JAP 2026 joint interview; Udaipur runs its own invitation-only process scoring the CAT score, not the percentile. Both admit through CAT alone.

Two newer IIMs, two near-identical bills, and two completely different admission machines. IIM Kashipur’s printed MBA 2026-28 fee totals Rs 20,80,000. IIM Udaipur’s six-term table totals Rs 21,51,258 — with hostel and mess already inside. Both pages were re-read today, 6 October 2026. The Rs 71,258 gap is the smallest in our IIM comparison series — and the least important difference between them.

The honest label on the gap: Rs 71,258 in Kashipur’s favour — before the scopes are matched. Udaipur’s number is residential; Kashipur’s table carries no hostel or mess line, so a true like-for-like comparison needs Kashipur’s residence costs added first. What remains different either way: Kashipur’s Rs 9,000 caution deposit and Udaipur’s Rs 20,000 refundable caution are minor, and both institutes print real waiver routes.

JAP versus solo — the difference that actually decides this

Kashipur admits through JAP 2026, the Joint Admission Process it shares with IIMs Raipur, Ranchi and Trichy. One registration, one joint interview round, then each campus computes its own list. If you are already in the JAP pool for the other three, Kashipur costs you nothing extra to stay in.

Udaipur admits alone, by invitation. After the CAT result, candidates clearing its table (General 94 overall, 75 sectionals — one overall point below Kashipur’s printed 95/75 reference) receive an email from the Admission Office to complete a mandatory online registration. That registration is not an interview call, and missing its window ends the candidature. The interview runs at Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai and the Udaipur campus, and the final merit list reads Normalised CAT Score 55% + PI 25% + Profile 20% — the policy spells out that it is the CAT score, divided by the maximum among IIM Udaipur’s PI attendees, not the percentile. Two candidates at the same percentile can land different composite scores here.

The quota question, answered from print

Neither institute prints any management, institutional or discretionary route — no IIM does. Kashipur’s page carries the warning in so many words: unsolicited communication offering admission in IIM Kashipur’s name is fraudulent and should not be answered. Both seats move through CAT under published reservation law. An agent quoting a priced seat at either is selling the thing Kashipur’s disclaimer describes.

The placement evidence, stated honestly

Both are newer IIMs still building long placement track records, and neither publishes the kind of audited salary table the older IIMs do. We state that gap rather than borrow aggregator averages. When either institute’s official placement report reaches you, run the five checks in our placement-report methodology — denominator, median versus average, CTC breakup — before letting it settle a Rs 21 lakh decision.

Who should pick which

  • Pick Kashipur if you are already in the JAP pool (one interview covers four IIMs), the lower printed bill matters, and a 95-plus overall CAT reference is realistic. One in ten participants pays no tuition for a year under its own scholarships.
  • Pick Udaipur if its invitation-email process suits you, the all-in residential figure makes budgeting cleaner, the planned batch of 375 appeals, or your household income sits under the Rs 6,00,000 assistance line.
  • Either way — the floors differ by a single overall point (95 reference versus 94), so most candidates clearing one floor clear the other. Register for every process you are eligible for: JAP’s one form, Udaipur’s invitation window, and watch both institutes’ own pages rather than any aggregator for the final 2026-28 cut-offs.

Straight answers

Which is cheaper, IIM Kashipur or IIM Udaipur?
On the printed tables re-read 6 October 2026, IIM Kashipur by Rs 71,258 — its MBA 2026-28 grand total is Rs 20,80,000 (admission, course fee and caution deposit) against IIM Udaipur's six-term Rs 21,51,258. Read the scopes honestly: Udaipur's figure already contains hostel and mess charges in every term, while Kashipur's table prints no hostel or mess line. The true like-for-like gap is therefore smaller than Rs 71,258 — confirm Kashipur's residence costs on its official page before budgeting.
Is the admission process the same for IIM Kashipur and IIM Udaipur?
No — this is the comparison's real spine. Kashipur admits through JAP 2026, the Joint Admission Process shared with IIMs Raipur, Ranchi and Trichy: one registration, one joint interview round, then each campus's own merit list. Udaipur runs a solo process: after the CAT result it emails eligible candidates an invitation to complete its own mandatory online registration — miss that window and you are out, whatever your percentile. Its final merit list scores the normalised CAT score at 55%, the interview at 25% and profile at 20%.
What CAT percentile do IIM Kashipur and IIM Udaipur need?
The printed reference floors sit one point apart. Kashipur's page prints the CAT-2024 table — General 95 overall with 75 in each section — while its 2026-28 cut-offs await JAP 2026 finalisation. Udaipur's published policy asks General 94 overall with the same 75 sectionals, and both pages warn the bars move with the applicant pool. Clearing the floor only enters the process: Kashipur's shortlist runs inside JAP, Udaipur's on its own CAT-score-plus-profile read.
Does the CAT percentile or the CAT score matter at these IIMs?
At Udaipur, the score — explicitly. Its policy states the final merit list uses the CAT score divided by the maximum CAT score among candidates who applied to IIM Udaipur and attended the PI, weighted 55% — 'the CAT Score would be used and not the CAT Percentile'. Kashipur's JAP process works from the percentile tables its page prints. Two candidates with identical percentiles but different raw scores are treated identically by the percentile table and differently by Udaipur's formula.
Is there a management quota at IIM Kashipur or IIM Udaipur?
Neither prints one — an IIM seat is not purchasable. Kashipur's own page carries the blunt version: 'If any person receives unsolicited or fraudulent communication offering admission in IIM Kashipur, do not respond. Always verify via the official website or the Admission Office before acting on any correspondence.' Both institutes admit through CAT alone under Government of India reservation law. Anyone selling a seat at either is describing the fraud Kashipur's warning names.
Which should I prefer — IIM Kashipur or IIM Udaipur?
On documents, the decision is process-shaped. If you are interviewing widely through JAP anyway, Kashipur adds no extra form and its bill prints Rs 71,258 lower. If Udaipur's invitation arrives, its smaller planned batch (375), the included hostel and mess in the printed figure, and the Rs 6,00,000-income financial-assistance line are real considerations. Both are newer IIMs building placement records — run any salary figure anyone quotes you through the checks in our placement-report guide before it decides this.
