Direct MBA Admission in Delhi NCR 2026: The IPU 10% Rule, PGDM Schools and Private Universities
Direct MBA admission in Delhi NCR 2026: GGSIPU's statutory 10% management seats, own-process PGDM schools like IMT and FORE, private universities, red flags.
The short answer
As of 9 September 2026, direct MBA admission in Delhi NCR splits three ways: GGSIPU-affiliated unaided institutes hold a statutory 10% management quota filled by advertised merit among entrance-qualified applicants; PGDM schools like IMT, IMI, FORE and BIMTECH admit only through their own published selection; and private universities and new-age schools from Amity, JGU and Sharda to Masters' Union run their own processes.
Type “direct admission MBA Delhi” into a search box and the results mix three completely different systems as if they were one market. They are not. Delhi NCR in 2026 has a statutory management quota in exactly one layer, a set of selective PGDM schools that admit only on published merit, and a ring of private universities that run their own processes. Here is the map, with the source for every claim.
What “direct admission” legally means in Delhi NCR in 2026
- Unaided GGSIPU-affiliated institutes hold the region’s only statutory quota. Under Section 12(1)(a) of Delhi’s 2007 Act, 10% of total seats in these colleges are Management Seats, filled under a procedure the university polices.
- Selective PGDM schools admit through their own published selection only. IMT Ghaziabad, IMI Delhi, FORE and BIMTECH each state in writing that no quota or direct-admission channel exists.
- NCR’s private universities run their own processes. Amity, Bennett, JGU, Sharda, GD Goenka and Shiv Nadar admit through their own applications, tests and interviews; two of them deny any management quota in writing, and none publishes one.
Anything sold outside these three frames is not a route. The state-level detail is in our Delhi NCR management-quota guide; this page stays at decision level.
Route 1: GGSIPU’s 10% Management Seats — the only statutory quota in Delhi
For MBA at an unaided GGSIPU-affiliated institute, the 2026-27 brochure’s Chapter 12 sets out the whole procedure, and it reads like the opposite of an agent’s pitch:
- You must have qualified the entrance first. For MBA (CET code 101) the brochure’s priority order is CAT 2025, CMAT 2026, GGSIPU CET, then CUET, and management-quota applicants must have qualified the prescribed test and registered online. There is no exam-free entry.
- The college must advertise. The rules require newspaper advertisements in Hindi and English at least a fortnight before admissions close, a minimum 18-day application window, a rank-ordered merit list on the institute’s own website within two days of closing, counselling within three days, and no more than two rounds.
- The money is capped and receipted. The Admission Regulatory Committee prescribes a registration fee of Rs 2,500 at registration only; the tuition fee is the one determined by the State Fee Regulatory Committee for that college.
- Every admission is provisional until GGSIPU ratifies it. An institute that breaks the rules or the schedule loses ratification, and the Delhi High Court’s 2023 judgment in the VIPS case — reproduced in the brochure — requires an online portal displaying management-quota seats with online and offline applications and a common rank-ordered merit list.
If a college cannot show you its advertisement, its merit list and its SFRC fee, it is not running this route.
Route 2: the selective PGDM schools — IMT, IMI, FORE, BIMTECH
These four sit at the top of most NCR shortlists, and their published positions leave no room for a middleman:
- IMT Ghaziabad admits through CAT, XAT or GMAT followed by its own Critical Thinking and Personal Interview rounds; its official FAQ states “there is no management or institutional quota”.
- IMI Delhi shortlists on CAT or XAT and academic record, then essay writing and personal interview.
- FORE School of Management states in its FAQ that “there is no management quota” and admissions are strictly on merit.
- BIMTECH states it “does not offer direct admissions and does not authorize or associate with any offline admission brokers, agents, or consultants for seat filling”.
So when an agent quotes a package for any of these four names, the schools’ own pages tell you what that is. Our IMT vs IMI vs FORE vs BIMTECH comparison covers their real routes, fees and selection stages.
Above these four sit the city’s CAT-only merit routes, profiled here from their official documents: FMS Delhi — about Rs 60,818 per semester, 251 sanctioned seats — and IIFT Delhi — Rs 21.82 lakh published for the 2025-27 batch, 240 Delhi seats, CAT 2025 plus GD-PI. Neither has any quota to sell; both are university systems that publish the arithmetic. And one rung above them, MDI Gurgaon runs the region’s most fully documented CAT-only process: a Rs 26,55,310 all-in published fee for 2026-28, WAT-GD-PI at five cities, a 96-percentile-average batch and no quota anywhere in its brochure.
Route 3: NCR’s private universities — published processes, mostly no quota
- O.P. Jindal (JGBS) publishes its exam bars — CAT, MAT, XAT, CMAT or ATMA at the 50th percentile or above, or GRE 295+, GMAT 450+, NMAT 160+ — then a faculty panel interview, and states on the same page that JGU has “no management quota, no donation/capitation seats, no NRI/Foreign National quota”.
- Sharda University admits its MBA through SUAT (its own online test), or MAT at the 75th percentile or CAT/XAT at the 65th, followed by GD and PI.
- Bennett University uses a weighted score of CAT, XAT, NMAT, MAT, CMAT, GMAT or its own BU-MAT, plus graduation marks and a personal interview.
- Amity University Noida publishes two seat categories — Non-Sponsored (normal criteria and cut-off) and Sponsored (reduced criteria with a differential fee structure) — and does not use the term management quota.
- Shiv Nadar University answers the quota question in its own FAQ with a flat no: admissions are strictly merit-based.
- Masters’ Union in Gurugram is the region’s newest own-process door: the printed PGP-TBM total is Rs 38,56,692 (reprinted upward on the official page in September 2026), candidates without a score take the school’s free MU-BAAT from home, and Round 1 for the current cycle closes 27 September 2026 — with audited Cohort-2025 placements (average Rs 33.39 LPA) published under IPRS. Our Masters’ Union profile carries the full verified detail.
The honest version of “direct admission” at every one of these is an application on the university’s own portal, an accessible exam score, and their published rounds.
Red flags that end the conversation in Delhi NCR
- Any quota claim attached to IMT, IMI, FORE, BIMTECH or JGU. All five deny the channel in writing on their own pages.
- A GGSIPU management seat offered without the advertisement, merit list or the Rs 2,500 registration receipt. The 2007 rules make all three mandatory, and GGSIPU’s own 2026-27 notice warns against touts promising admission.
- Payment to anyone but the institution, in cash, or before a written offer. Regulated fees are paid to the college against the SFRC structure, with a receipt.
- Anyone who cannot name the legal basis of the seat they are selling. In Delhi the answer is either “Section 12(1)(a) of the 2007 Act” or the university’s own published process. There is no third answer.
Tell us your profile, scores and budget, and we will tell you which of these routes is genuinely open to you in Delhi NCR this cycle — and if the honest answer for a specific college is “no route exists”, we will say exactly that.

- Is there a legal management quota for MBA in Delhi in 2026?
- Yes, but only in one place: unaided institutes affiliated to GGSIP University, where Section 12(1)(a) of Delhi's 2007 Act reserves 10% of total seats as Management Seats. University schools, minority and government institutions are exempt. The region's private universities run their own processes instead — Shiv Nadar and O.P. Jindal deny any management quota in writing — and the selective PGDM schools (IMT, IMI, FORE, BIMTECH) admit only through their published merit processes.
- Can I get a GGSIPU management-quota MBA seat without an entrance exam?
- No. The university's own admission brochure requires management-quota applicants to have qualified the prescribed entrance — for MBA (code 101) the priority order is CAT 2025, CMAT 2026, GGSIPU CET, then CUET — plus mandatory online registration. The process is then advertised in newspapers, decided by a rank-ordered merit list published on the institute website, and capped at two counselling rounds. There is no exam-free door.
- What does a GGSIPU management-quota seat cost?
- A registration fee of Rs 2,500 prescribed by the Admission Regulatory Committee, then the fee determined by the State Fee Regulatory Committee for that college — the same regulated fee structure that governs regular admissions. Every management-quota admission is provisional until GGSIPU ratifies it, and an institute that breaks the prescribed rules or schedule loses ratification. Any payment above the regulated structure is capitation.
- Is there a management quota at IMT Ghaziabad, IMI Delhi, FORE or BIMTECH?
- No. IMT's official admissions FAQ states there is no management or institutional quota. FORE's FAQ states there is no management quota and admissions are strictly on merit. BIMTECH's admissions page states it does not offer direct admissions and does not authorise any offline brokers, agents or consultants for seat filling. Any quota offer attached to these names contradicts the schools' own published statements.
- What is the honest direct route at Amity, Bennett, JGU, Sharda or GD Goenka?
- Each university's own published process. JGU's JGBS publishes exam bars — CAT, MAT, XAT, CMAT or ATMA at the 50th percentile or above, or GRE 295+, GMAT 450+, NMAT 160+ — followed by a faculty panel interview, and states it has no management quota, donation or capitation seats of any kind. Sharda admits through its SUAT test or MAT at the 75th percentile or CAT/XAT at the 65th, plus GD and PI. Bennett uses a weighted score of national tests or its own BU-MAT plus interview. Amity's published two-track system is its Non-Sponsored and Sponsored seat categories, which it describes itself and does not call a management quota.
- An agent says he can confirm a Delhi PGDM seat for a package fee. Real?
- Treat it as the documented scam pattern. GGSIPU publishes a standing anti-fraud notice for 2026-27 warning against touts promising admission and stating that admissions happen only through centralised counselling on merit. IMT, FORE and BIMTECH each disown brokers on their own pages, and JGU states donation or capitation payment is illegal. Confirm any claim directly with the institution's admissions office before paying anything.
